The House judiciary committee this week approved legislation that would revive a law that barred local governments from passing gun laws stricter than the state’s and a separate bill that would allow gun owners to carry concealed handguns without getting a permit.
Gov. Tom Wolf opposes both bills, his spokeswoman Lyndsay Kensinger said.
More than 300,000 Pennsylvanians obtained permits to carry concealed firearms in 2020, according to the state police, and more than 1 million Pennsylvanians have concealed carry permits. |

But if we take more notice of the subtle changes we already see around us in these areas of progress, the writing on the wall becomes much more deeply printed. The use of guns in the way we presently see it will become a relic of the past, like cigarettes on airplanes and words about others we already no longer use. We will remember these times as a barbarous age, because it is. But one day we will more clearly see in hindsight the trends that were already working toward the right ways to support one another in the flourishing of humanity. |

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have an example of a weird pistol in that it is an 8mm Gaulois No 1 Palm Pistol. These pistols are strange by today’s standards, but back in the late 1800s and early 1900s they weren’t out of the question for a form of self-defense for the average-Joe. The way these pistols work is similar to a double-action revolver. In this case, the rear grip is squeezed like a trigger until it breaks and fires. |

They just started screaming some derogatory things towards Jewish people out the window,” Orgen told WPEC-TV of West Palm Beach. “My first thought was just making sure my wife and daughter were behind me so I could take the brunt of anything that was going to happen.”
Orgen told the station the men said things like, “Free Palestine!,” “Die Jew!” “F– you Jew,” and “I’m gonna rape your wife.”
The family was helped by a driver who witnessed the attack and decided to intervene, Orgen said. Armed with a gun, the stranger defended the family and chased the group away. |

The Extreme Risk Protection Order Act establishes a new grant program to encourage states to adopt “red flag” laws, which allow family members or law enforcement officials to petition a judge to temporarily disarm an individual in crisis if they pose a threat to themselves or others. If enacted, states who adopt these preventative measures would be eligible for federal funding to help pay for implementation and processing. |

Crime has skyrocketed in my part of Baltimore County, with carjackings and muggings a daily occurrence within blocks of where I live. I told my wife that I should carry a gun in my holster despite the laws on the books in Maryland because all the criminals holding people up with guns never seem to serve a day in jail, despite their criminal records. Thus, indeed there is a right to carry in the state of Maryland.
"Yes, but not for people like you, honey," my wife said. "You'll get in big trouble if you're caught defending yourself with a gun." |

Brasie states in the middle of the article ‘I personally support the Second Amendment’ and the very next word he writes is ‘However.’ You either support the 2A or you don’t, no ‘however’ or ‘but.’
The 2A was included in the Bill of Rights by our Founders specifically so that if faced with a tyrannical government or an outside threat the citizens could rise up and protect their freedom. There is no mention of hunting or sports use. The 2A states “the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Check your copy of the Constitution and see how many times and how the word ‘People’ is specifically used. The militia when the Constitution was written was every able-bodied citizen. |

Gov. Greg Abbott and several of the state's top Republican leaders point with pride to an array of recent efforts to expand the gun rights of law-abiding Texans and have vowed to resist any federal efforts they believe might chip away at the Second Amendment.
But a yearlong investigation by USA TODAY in partnership with a publication called The Trace that examines gun violence in the United States suggests federal authorities have not been overly aggressive when it comes to cracking down on dealers who run afoul of gun rules.
Ed.: Texas also has the most gun sales, by far, in the nation. Minor paperwork errors are to be expected. |

In the wake of the latest mass shooting in San Jose, this pandemic of gun violence can no longer be ignored.
Now, let me be clear, I believe in the Second Amendment. I believe in the rights of Americans to own a gun. But not if they are violent, or mentally ill, or have been convicted of a violent crime. |

24 states, led by Arizona and Louisiana, have filed an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to take a case seeking to overturn New Jersey’s ban on high-capacity magazines -- arguing that such a ban criminalizes possession of commonly-used firearms and violates the Second Amendment
"The Amici States the Attorneys General serve are among the forty-three states that permit the standard, eleven-plus capacity magazines that New Jersey has banned...and have advanced their compelling interests in promoting public safety, preventing crime, and reducing criminal firearm violence without a magazine ban such as the one here," the states write in an amicus brief. |

Attorney General Mark Brnovich and Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry are leading a coalition of 24 states to uphold the Second Amendment at the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS). Attorney General Brnovich is urging SCOTUS to review a New Jersey law that limits magazine capacities and requires gun owners to surrender certain magazines to law enforcement.
“New Jersey lawmakers are operating in total ignorance of our ability to protect ourselves and our families,” said Attorney General Brnovich. “We hope the Supreme Court will hear this case and reverse this misguided attempt to erode our rights.” |

The gunfight at our sometimes OK Capitol continues. This time with a down-to-the-wire battle over bringing guns into hotel rooms.
Knowing this Legislature’s general bent on guns (bending heavily toward them), and assuming deadlines don't get in the way, it’s pretty certain guns will win this battle. But which kind?
Senate Bill 20 seeks to address a problem some see in currently allowing hotels to decide whether they allow guests to bring guns in the guest rooms. Some guests, we’re told, want to do so in lieu of leaving their guns in their vehicles in the hotel parking lot. Others might perceive a need for self-defense within their hotel rooms.
Many of us probably have spent a night or two in hotels like that. |
