Texas House Bill 196, proposed by state Representative Terry Meza, introduces a controversial “duty to retreat” clause that modifies self-defense laws, particularly affecting situations outside one’s property. While the bill does not repeal the Castle Doctrine—which allows individuals to use deadly force without retreating when in their own homes—it narrows when deadly force can be justified, particularly in cases involving robbery outside one’s residence.

Gun Owners of America (GOA) today called on its members and supporters nationwide to take immediate action in support of a proposed rule by the Trump Department of Justice that would restore Second Amendment rights to countless Americans unjustly barred under the decades-old “Schumer Amendment.”

Enacted in 1992, the Schumer Amendment defunded the only federal process available (other than an unlikely pardon) to federally restore firearm rights, effectively imposing a lifetime ban on gun ownership for individuals with certain non-violent convictions or temporary mental health commitments—even if such persons pose no ongoing threat and have long since been rehabilitated.

The ongoing fight between Pennsylvania state representative Frank Burns (D-District 74) and gun rights groups continues. Burns said he only voted against an amendment that would have required the anti-gun Speaker of the House to send House Bill 454, Constitutional Carry of a Firearm, to the floor for a vote. Key opponents claim he used a procedural trick to scuttle permitless carry in the Keystone State.

While acknowledging his 15 years of support for gun rights, the Gun Owners of America announced it is withdrawing its endorsement of Burns. GOA had previously demanded that Burns resign from the House Second Amendment Caucus.

It will remain illegal for people under 21 to carry a handgun in most public places in Georgia after the state Supreme Court upheld state limits on the right to bear arms.

In a unanimous decision issued Wednesday, the high court ruled against Thomas Stephens, a 20-year-old who sued after Lumpkin County denied his application for a license to carry a handgun.

Georgia's Constitution says the right to bear arms "shall not be infringed," but also gives the state legislature the authority to "prescribe the manner" in which weapons may be carried.

Marshall recently sent a multi-state letter calling on the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. The resolution, H.R. 38, would allow those who are lawfully cleared to carry a concealed firearm in their home state to enjoy the same privileges in any other state where concealed carry is legal.

Suppressors would still be subject to the 4473 paperwork and NICS background check required for any firearm purchase from a federally licensed firearm dealer, because they are still classified as firearms under the Gun Control Act.

Those who are cleared to purchase them, however, will no longer have to undergo the cumbersome process of submitting fingerprints, a photo, and Form 4 to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), in addition to paying the $200 tax stamp required to leave a gun store with the hearing protection device.

Recently, the National Rifle Association (NRA) filed a Petition for Certiorari in the case of NRA v. Glass, urging the U.S. Supreme Court to consider its challenge against Florida’s law prohibiting firearm purchases by individuals aged 18 to 20. To clarify, a Petition for Certiorari is a petition that a higher court, such as the Supreme Court, reviews the decision of a lower court.

Since 2018, Florida has enforced a complete ban on firearm purchases for those in the 18 to 20-year age group.

The Assam Cabinet’s recent decision to introduce a arms license policy has come under fierce criticism from key opposition leaders, who allege that the move is both constitutionally questionable and socially dangerous, with potential to destabilise Assam’s fragile communal harmony.

Leading the charge is former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bhupen Borah, who accused Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of attempting to “Americanise” the Assam’s society by normalising weapons.

Article 26 would exclude Dartmouth's "municipal administrative buildings from being a 'prohibited area'" under new state laws that bar legal gun owners from carrying firearms in municipal buildings like Town Hall. According to Dartmouth Police Chief Brian Levesque, An Act Modernizing Firearms was signed into law July 25, 2024, and went into effect Oct. 2, 2024.

"By voting 'yes' on this article, it would restore the ability of licensed gun owners to carry in town buildings as they have been able to do for the last 360 years in Dartmouth," Levesque said in the Town Meeting preview.

I have a strong opinion as someone who has built a brand by showcasing the intersection of fashion and firearms. To me, style matters very much. I believe that as long as you’re being safe, fashion and firearms can coexist. I sought other opinions, too, but first, let’s have a short history lesson.

Although it may not be the first thing you think of when it comes to guns, fashion has been a part of firearms culture since the beginning. If we look at leather holsters, for example, we can see an evolution dating back to the 1800s. Western gun leather started with pommel bag holsters and scabbards for carrying guns while on a horse. These ranged from simple to ornate in design.

A House bill prohibiting city and county governments in Texas from holding gun buyback events will soon be heading to Gov. Greg Abbott's desk. The Senate passed the bill on Wednesday without amendments.

House Bill 3053 would bar local governments from organizing, sponsoring or participating in events to purchase firearms from civilians, with the intent of reducing the number of guns in circulation. The measure appears aimed directly at local governments such as Houston and Harris County, which have held several such events in recent years.

Jennifer Scruggs passed background checks and signed forms on multiple visits to Turner, Manchester and Auburn firearms dealers, telling them, and the federal government, that all 55 guns were personal purchases.
