WA: Seattle Mayor's Gun Control Plan Right Out of CeaseFire's Playbook, Says CCRKBA

"Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels' gun control agenda, announced at a Tuesday press conference, could have been written by Washington CeaseFire -- a small but vocal extremist gun control organization -- and 'probably was,' said the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA)."

"'The proposals unveiled by Mayor Nickels,' said CCRKBA Executive Director Joe Waldron, 'are nearly identical to the wish list detailed by CeaseFire President Ralph Fascitelli on the Op- Ed page of the Seattle Times on April 20. It appears that a special interest group is pulling the mayor's strings because he is mouthing every one of their demands.'" ...

"Members of Congress are so cowed by the power of the National Rifle Association that they can't hear a cry from US cities: 'Please, help us get handguns off our streets.' Congress has even tried to block cities from taking action against gunmakers."

"The latest skirmish between Washington and the cities came last Thursday in a New York City courthouse. A federal judge ruled that the city can have access to gun-tracing information gathered by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Such information is critical in a lawsuit brought by New York City against gun manufacturers in its effort to control handguns." ...

... "I've been writing about this issue, off and on, ever since I took on the site. Know who hasn't been writing about this issue? The U.S. Supreme Court. Their first, last, and only significant Second Amendment ruling, U.S. v. Miller, was handed down in 1939--almost 70 years ago. They aren't saying that the Second Amendment does protect individual gun rights, so city and state laws that modestly restrict gun ownership continue to be approved by federal courts without further appeal. They aren't saying that the Second Amendment doesn't protect gun rights, so legislators are reticent to pass gun control laws. It is the Supreme Court's job to address Constitutional questions, and this Constitutional question remains unanswered. ..."

"Yesterday, I went to see the first showing of United 93. As I said yesterday, every American should see this movie."

"Today, now that I feel a bit better (not much), and have had time for the movie to percolate, I have more to say — about the movie, and about the memorial." ...

"While watching the movie, I found my hand, almost by itself, slipping down to my side and resting on my Glock when the hijackers were on the screen. I knew I was looking at a movie, but I wanted to empty my magazine into them up on the screen. I expected the film to recall some of the furor I felt on that day; I did not expect to relive it." ...

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Police have charged a South Kingstown man with allegedly shooting his own dog.

Police say 58-year-old Edgar Goulet shot his pit bull yesterday and buried it in a shallow grave he dug in his backyard.

The pit bull—called Sparky—apparently ran into a neighbor’s yard in the morning. Police say neighbors heard Goulet threatening to shoot the dog if he caught it.

Goulet was charged this morning with killing an animal, firing in a contact area and possession of a sawed-off shotgun.

He has been released on 40-thousand dollars personal recognizance bail and ordered to surrender any guns he owns.

Goulet says he shot the dog in self-defense.
