"It isn’t common that an unbiased, informative report comes from NPR, but hey, even a blind squirrel finds a nut from time to time.""Sales of guns and ammunition rose after President Obama took office in 2008, and they went through the roof starting late last year, when a school shooting led to a push for new gun control measures. That’s led to a prolonged ammunition shortage, even with manufacturers running at full capacity." ...
"An economics textbook would say this shouldn’t happen. It would say that Bob Viden, who has run the shop for almost 50 years, should respond to the increase in demand by raising prices. And some stores and online sellers have done just that. But, Viden told me, 'We don’t want to do that. We want to be fair.'" ... |

"Gun-control activists sound desperate. They are now reduced to recycling failed old arguments to persuade Americans to give up their guns. The New York Times has dredged up depositions from a 15-year-old rash of unsuccessful lawsuits against gun manufacturers in an apparent attempt to embarrass or discredit the industry (see my previous NRO report here). Inadvertently, their effort has spotlighted the firearms-company executives’ integrity and courage in the face of large-scale abusive litigation." ... |

"Seattle Gun Rights Examiner Dave Workman reported Tuesday that there is a growing movement within the bowhunting community to take on a more active role in defending gun rights. The logic behind doing so is solid: there is a great deal of overlap between the anti-gun and anti-hunting fanatics (anti-gun former Obama administration 'regulatory czar' Cass Sunstein, for example, wants not only to ban hunting, but to provide animals with a mechanism to file lawsuits against humans)." ... |

"I teach 'the combative application of the pistol' which is more than just shooting. Trainers and students are in a moment of time when many shooters have confused how well they can shoot a popular range drill with how well they can fight. A reality check here people…how fast/accurate you can shoot [a] ... popular drill is not necessarily and indicator of how well you will perform in armed conflict. Do you need to be a good shot? Hell yes!! Anytime you can improve skills you will increase confidence and confidence in skill(s) is the single biggest factor in overcoming fear in conflict. ... There is a BIG difference between shooting and fighting, but most people cannot recognize the difference as they have never been in conflict. ..." ... |

"I normally carry a 9mm, .357 or .45 ACP. However with advancing age my hip and back get sore with any kind of weight on them like a gun pressed against my hip. When I belt carry, I know that I am in for anywhere from a few hours to a day of mild pain afterwards. Although I have several nice pocket pistols... I wanted something smaller for the hot humid summers of Florida and also to give me some leeway in which pants I can wear. My existing guns fit in my pockets but the grips just are barely smaller than the pockets are deep. I had tried the LCP twice and although it fit nicely and was very lightweight, it was too lightweight and its sights were not to my liking. I bought it twice and I had to concentrate on my grip or it would jam." ... |

"In Colorado Springs Tuesday night, some 800 people showed up at a fundraiser organized by the Independence Institute in support of its lawsuit challenging the state’s new gun control laws."

For instance, Gallup found that 83 percent of Americans favored a law requiring background checks for all gun purchases. The Washington Post/ABC poll found that 86 percent of Americans support a law requiring background checks on people buying guns at gun shows or online.' Wait. I’m getting a sense of this . . ." ... |

"Seems that a majority of Americans want the U.S. Senate to move on and not try to revive the defeated gun control bill. Not surprisingly more women than men wanted the Senate to vote again. However, the majority of people were in favor of individual gun control measures to ban 'unspecified' assault weapons and magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. It is interesting that so many ignorant people want to ban weapons that they cannot even identify. What kind of world are we living in where no one seems to want to spend any time researching things that they want to ban and yet will spend the day protesting against that which they are ignorant about?" ... |

"Texas isn’t the wild west, free-swinging gun mecca most people think it is. The Lone Star State has a proficiency requirement for concealed handgun licenses. That’s right, you need to prove that you can operate your firearm effectively. You’d think the type of firearm you qualify with wouldn’t matter — but you’d be wrong. The state records the type of firearm you used (revolver or semi-auto) and restricts your ability to carry firearms based on that record. Qualify with a semi-auto and you’re good with any handgun, but qualify with a revolver and semi-autos are verboten. But a new law passed by the Texas legislature yesterday puts an end to that nonsense . . ." ... |
