The weather was turning when Two Pony and his partner set out to retrieve strays from a remote canyon. They got most of the animals headed downcountry before the storm broke. Camping that night, they readied their snowshoes to finish the search. Tracks the next morning led to a carcass. A fresh one. |

A man who opened fire in a parking lot outside a strip club near Ft. Worth, Texas, Sunday, managed to wound three people before being shot and killed by armed club security. The Associated Press reported the shooting followed a fight inside the club, Temptations Cabaret, which resulted in the man being ejected from the business.

A suspect was wounded on Sunday when he shot at a concealed carry holder, and the would-be victim shot back. Chicago police said a 21-year-old suspect approached a man in the parking lot outside a Ross clothing store at the Ford City Mall on the southwest side of Chicago. When the suspect opened fire, the victim fired back with his weapon and hit the suspect in the thigh. They took the victim to the hospital, and the CCL holder is alive and well. |

Federal law prohibits nine categories of persons from receipt and possession of a firearm. As the Supreme Court continues to develop its Second Amendment jurisprudence, which ones of those types are most significant in regard to representativeness and numerosity? Felons in possession of firearms have been the leading type of prosecution under the federal Gun Control Act since its enactment in 1968. There were 7,454 such convictions in 2021.

In a solicitous move showing appropriate concern for the state of the United States, a Michigan country board recently voted to categorize the area as a “Constitutional County.” Begging the question: Aren’t all counties, towns, states, and territories that are part of the United States supposed to be “constitutional” – i.e., running according to the supposed “rules” of governmental operation set down in 1787 and adopted in 1789?

A measure that greatly expands the mandate for firearms technology that isn't on the market won easy approval in the California state Senate last week. California Sen. Catherine Blakespear's SB 452 passed on a 29-10 vote on May 24 and goes to the state Assembly for further consideration. The Encinitas Democrat argues that the bill "simply puts to use readily available technology to help law enforcement catch criminals" by banning all sales or transfers of any semiautomatic pistol after July 2027 unless it has been verified as having a microstamping-enabled action. |
