"Well like the good father says, 'it's all about the Benjamins,' which I guess is proof he understands street slang, and he understands what 'snuff out' means among his (can you call a gaggle or a pack a 'flock'?)

"So what about the Benjamins, Mike? And why shouldn't your ability to apparently exploit tax laws the rest of us are forced to obey be snuffed out?

"What am I talking about? Well, Mike's 'church,' St. Sabina, is a 501(c)(3) corporation."

2nd Amendment--Predictions

"For almost three-quarters of a century, lawyers and scholars have debated the meaning of the Second Amendment ... Conservatives say the words plainly endow individuals with a liberty to own weapons; liberals read the first clause as limiting that right to the collective use of guns in state military bodies. The Supreme Court hasn't directly spoken on the Second Amendment in almost 70 years, and never definitively endorsed either side."

"This uncertainty soon will be over, thanks to the D.C. Circuit's three month old opinion in Parker v. District of Columbia ... So what next?"

"The case will go to the Supreme Court. It's perfect for the Supremes, because the law and policy at issue are so extreme ..." ...

"Senator Dianne Feinstein said, 'Turn 'em in, America,' a very unpatriotic command nobody has to obey because it was against the law. She might as well have urged Americans to purchase other Americans ... As civil rights, both are absolute, and for good reason. Who in her right mind could urge Americans to surrender a civil right? Indeed, even just a little? Could any reason be good enough?"

"With all the school shootings recently, be sure to include citizens in the critique and recovery process. Officials - armed officials, by the way - have a very bad record of freezing constituents out of the planning and recovery process. Meanwhile, let us not forget that some campus administrators are getting it, as in South Carolina and Utah. ..." ...

"A guy walks into a gun shop to buy a gun. The gun shop’s employee performs a background check. The information from the background check which links the gun to its new owner and its origin (the gun shop) must be destroyed WITHIN 24 HOURS." ...

"So, now, a crime is committed with a gun. Any record of where that gun originated has been destroyed. How do we trace it? How do we figure out where it came from? It is impossible to follow the gun’s journey when we destroy the records after ONE DAY." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: How do we trace it? Take the serial number to the manufacturer, who tells us which wholesaler it went to, who tells us which retailer it went to, who pulls out the paperwork he is required to keep for each sale. Voila! You have traced the gun.

"When I was still new in the US and sorting out my first impressions, I had a somewhat unpleasant and unsettling encounter. Asked at a very congenial get together by a charming American lady as to what baffled me most about the US, what is it that I 'did not get as a foreigner', I had replied in all honesty that it was the freedom to buy and use guns that I found most difficult to understand."

"[Sheriff Sgt.] Meadows said detectives at the scene saw evidence of a struggle, including a sling blade that was stuck in the wall."

"'It appears at this time that Hill showed up at the home and began arguing with David Allen McBride and then began throwing tools at him,' he said."

"Meadows said Hill was throwing different types of tools and McBride reported he feared for his life and armed himself with a handgun and fired multiple shots striking Hill."

"Here in Arizona, lawmakers banned firearms in public places like court houses, city halls and bus stops. But they later changed that--by requiring mandatory storage for guns ..." ...

"But that isn't to say all public venues are prepared. If the bill becomes law, similar lock boxes would be required at public events like concerts and block parties should the event sponsor choose to ban guns."

This legislation will permit law abiding Ohio citizens to protect themselves in their homes. This legislation establishes the presumption that a criminal who forcibly enters or intrudes into a home or occupied vehicle is there to cause death or great bodily harm; therefore, the victim may use any manner of force, including deadly force, against the intruder. The bill is substantially similar to HB559 from 2004 and HB91 from 2005, which were both sponsored by Representative Tom Brinkman. HB225 would repeal many of the onerous provisions of our current concealed carry law and allow law abiding citizens to carry concealed without a license."

"In the last few weeks, Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Congressman Peter King (R-NY) have introduced bills which say that people on the terrorist watch list should not be permitted to buy guns. Most people are shocked when they learn that this common-sense step in fighting terrorism is not already in place."

"We welcome and applaud this effort by the Bush Administration and Congress to begin to plug the terrorist loophole in our nation's gun laws, and the gun loophole in our nation's war on terror. Under current law, suspected terrorists who are deemed too dangerous to fly on airplanes, are not classified as too dangerous to buy assault weapons or other guns unless they fall into some other prohibited category. FULL TEXT BELOW:

A burglar broke into a police officer's home and stole handcuffs, a 40-caliber Glock service pistol, a police radio and a duty belt.

The burglar also took $2,175 worth of other items, including a PlayStation 2 game console, video games, a portable DVD player, a cell phone and cash, State Police Cpl. R. C. Workman said.

Workman said the unidentified officer and his family were not home when the break-in happened.

He said the gun, valued at $500, is a model that could be purchased anywhere, but the $1,800 radio is not an item a civilian would have.

Police do not know whether the burglar knew a police officer lived in the house, Workman said.

"Thank you for the recent (May 15) column 'Gun Control after Virginia Tech massacre?' The column was very informative and thought provoking. I wholeheartedly agree with the conclusion that 'the slaughter will not end until ordinary people demand action and politicians find the courage to face down the NRA.'"

"Unfortunately, there appears to be little courage to stand up to the gun lobby in the Maine Statehouse. FULL TEXT BELOW:

A MAN has been struck in the chest with an axe in a violent home invasion in Geelong.

A gang of three men, armed with the axe and a pistol, burst into a house in Robin Avenue, Norlane, a Geelong suburb, shortly after 11.20pm yesterday, police said.

Members of the gang entered a bedroom where a 21-year-old man was sleeping, held the pistol to his head and demanded cash.

In another room, the man's father scuffled with one of the intruders, who struck him with the axe.

The three fled on foot with an amount of cash.

The injured man was taken to Geelong Hospital in a stable condition.

A search of the neighbourhood by local police and the dog squad has so far failed to track the intruders.
