The pistol arrives at my house in a padded tote, the size you’d pack a picnic lunch in. It’s a 9mm Glock 26, a “sub-compact” concealable semi-automatic. Diminutive, hammerless and made of polymer, to my eye, it’s a true exotic. It’s accompanied by two clips and a box of 115 grain ammo, missing one round. I think, How about that? I zip the tote back up, squirrel it away in my desk.

SNAP! Was that a branch I just heard break, or are my ears playing tricks on me? I wondered. Then everything was silent again except for the crazed, buzzing mosquitoes kept at bay by a combination of liberal bug spray and a Thermacell. I listened intently while scanning the area with my eyes. CRACK! A grin came over my face as the excitement and adrenaline instantly started to build. |

Carrying a concealed pistol in Michigan without a permit or completing any gun safety training would be legal under a package of bills that a House committee approved Tuesday. The measure now goes to the full House for consideration after Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee approved the package in a series of 6-4 votes with all Democrats voting no. Democrats failed to persuade the panel to approve any amendments leaving intact some current restrictions for carrying concealed pistols. |

MI: Michigan House Panel Repeals Requirements for Concealed Carry

A House panel today approved a controversial package of bills that will allow Michigan residents to carry concealed weapons without obtaining permits or receiving training. The four bills passed in 6-4 votes. They now move on to the full House and would also require Senate approval and the signature of Gov. Rick Snyder, to become law.
A large part of the rationale for repealing the permit and safety training requirement is that under current Michigan law, law-abiding citizens can openly carry a firearm without a permit, fees, or a training requirement. Proponents of the change called the permit requirement a money grab that essentially taxed people for putting jackets over their guns.

A man shot and killed early Monday in the Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood of St. Louis may have been killed in self-defense, police say. The man, Pierre Sullivan, was shot in the 3200 block of Greer Avenue about 12:30 a.m. Monday, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said Sullivan had been in the area the day before, causing a disturbance and threatening to kill several people. Sullivan returned on Monday, and was pulling a gun from his waistband when a 30-year-old man shot him, authorities said. |

That a shotgun is a capable, if not perfect, firearm for protecting one’s person, family, abode or homestead is undeniable. But, as opinions vary greatly, there’s little consensus as to what constitutes an ideal home-defense scattergun. Semi-automatic rifle owners who desire their shotgun to appear and function (somewhat) like their rifle, as well as individuals preferring detachable box magazines to tubular ones or who cherish rail space for adding “extras,” need to pay attention to the subject of this review, the Turkish-made TriStar KRX Tactical. |

Pennsylvania Rep. Jamie Santora (R-163) defended his legislation outlawing private gun sales via the implementation of universal background checks during the May 30 airing of Whatever It Takes with Curt Schilling. On May 28, Breitbart News reported that Santora wants to ban the private sales that Americans have enjoyed since the Second Amendment was ratified in 1791. His vehicle for doing this is an expansion of background checks wherein private gun sales are equated with retail gun sales, thereby forcing a law-abiding co-worker to seek out an agent of the state, fill out paperwork, and get permission–i.e., submit to a background check–before buying a gun from a co-worker. |

A proposed bill would allow people in Wisconsin to carry concealed guns without a permit or training. The state's largest police union is against the proposal, while supporters say it's really just a slight change to the current concealed carry law. At Fletcher Arms in Waukesha, it is easy to find those who believe efforts to bring "constitutional carry" laws to Wisconsin are on target. "The lack of a training requirement should not equate, in people's minds, to a lack of people having training," Nik Clark, president of Wisconsin Carry said. |

The proposal is an effort to add law enforcement in Chico, while still saving money. For now, the park rangers operate under Chico Public Works. If this proposal is approved, they will transition under the Chico Police Department. The problem the park rangers said they have is they are already spread thin as it is. |

The term “childproof handgun” sounds innocuous enough, but like most of New York’s unworkable gun control laws, the devil is in the details. Sen. Jose Serrano (D-Bronx) is the mastermind behind S.3444, which is as far-fetched as microstamping, “smart guns” and ammunition background check databases. Undeterred by failure after failure, anti-gun lawmakers in the New York Senate are back pitching more gun control. S.3444 would ban gun dealers, after 12 months, from selling firearms not equipped with safety features which would “preclude an average five year old child from operating the pistol or revolver.”

North Carolina wildlife officials are considering alligator hunting in the state for the first time since 1973. In June, the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is holding six meetings to discuss the possible change. “What we would recommend if there really are enough alligators to support a limited hunting season is that we start where there’s the most alligators and the most alligator habitat and start it slow and go from there,” commission spokesperson Allen Boynton told the Daily News of Jacksonville. |
