One of our patrolmen, on night shift, was checking the business houses in his district when he spotted a burglar inside an auto parts store at about the same time that the burglar spotted him. The immediate problem was to somehow cover the front door and the back door until backup could arrive. So our enterprising police officer simply turned on his red lights & siren and drove around and around the building just as fast as he could.

An ABC News/ Washington Post survey released on April 28th has several interesting findings, but the takeaways aren’t limited to specific datapoints. The survey, the results, and the media coverage demonstrate that so-called “gun violence” prevention is “just” – spoiler alert – gun control and that the duplicitous efforts to advance gun control efforts have not worked.

President Biden dropped any pretense at “moderation” in his first address to a joint session of Congress since assuming the presidency. However much he tried to pad the early parts of his speech with bland, feel-good rhetoric, his remarks on gun control demonstrate that he is radical, out of touch, ill-informed, and bent on persecuting his political enemies over prioritizing important issues of general public interest. If you didn’t catch the speech, don’t feel too bad. You were in good company. Biden pulled just over half the number of viewers who watched President Donald Trump’s first address to both houses of Congress.

The range is a new shooter’s best friend, and frequent visits build the confidence and skills that translate to practical use in the field. Hitting the range is often intimidating for beginners, but range days quickly become habitual with a simple system. New shooters must learn the range rules, build a systematic approach to equipment, set specific goals, and learn fundamental marksmanship skills.

If one was to equate the high-speed action shooting in USPSA with auto racing, Open would be the Formula One division. There are no restrictions on the maximum handgun size or weight. Nor do handgun models have to be on a USPSA approved list. Optical sights, compensators, barrel ports and slide ports are allowed. There is no minimum trigger pull weight, and magazine capacity is limited only by the magazines being restricted to a maximum length of 171.25 mm. |

I saw the two green points shining back at me in the beam of the headlamp I’d just turned on — but it wasn’t until I made out the dark bulk behind them I realized what was on the side of the trail ahead. Living and hiking in the mountains, I’d seen this shape before. “Bear,” I thought to myself. Not good, but not the end of the world.

The .17 HMR has impressive ballistics. Bullets weigh between 15.5 grains and 20 grains – ammo this small, propelled by the comparatively large powder loads in the .22 Magnum case, travel at high velocities. Some loads have a muzzle velocity as high as 2,550 feet per second. But even with those high speeds, muzzle energy for this round is only about 250 foot pounds, which is plenty for shooting varmints and targets at long distances. |
Losing Trust in Politicians and the News Media

The business of politics is to sell favors to influential special interests. Today’s politicians have divided us into so many small factions that the favors they give to one group collide with the special interests they already granted to earlier groups. The accumulated political contradictions we see today help explain why both politicians and the media have lost our trust.
Democrat politicians told us the police are racist. Democrats also said we need to let the police decide which individuals may go armed in public.
The politicians’ claim that gun-control makes us safer no longer fits our experience. The average citizen has seen too much, and the medias’ spin no longer convinces us.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Some writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins ... Society is in every state a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one. — THOMAS PAINE |
