The right to defend yourself is sacred. But the use of lethal force to disable a threat is not always warranted- and can put you on the wrong side of the law.
That’s why more and more self-defense seekers are investing in something that can thwart a threat without taking a life.
The right to defend doesn’t always mean the right to kill.
“Make this arm straight, this one is pulling, this one is pushing,” said Dale Brown of Detroit Urban Survival Training (DUST).
In fact, most situations don’t require lethal force.
Making this non-lethal alternative even more attractive to this Oakland County mom and the thousands of others flocking to own it. This is a Byrna.

There are new developments in the deadly January 8 shooting that took place in the Belmont neighborhood.
Charges have been dropped against one of the two men arrested for the shooting, 22-year-old Jose Omar Rivas Sorto of Maryland. New court documents obtained by NBC 29 revealed a string of events that led up to the shooting.
Several days prior to the date of the alleged offense, Sorto learned from his wife that she had been kidnapped in Texas and was being held at ransom. The kidnappers said they would return Sorto’s wife in exchange for $10,000. An arrangement was made for both parties to meet to exchange the money for the safe return of his wife. |

Gun-rights activists were handed a pair of victories last week, with U.S. District Judge Stephen McGlynn blocking enforcement of Illinois’ “assault-weapons” ban known as PICA (Protect Illinois Communities Act) and Colorado seeing a proposed assault-weapons ban fail in a Democrat-controlled House Committee. However, in Washington, an assault-weapons ban was passed, making it the 10th state to enact such restrictions.
But while gun activists are bullish on the idea that bans on so-called assault weapons and large-capacity magazines (LCMs) are unconstitutional, challenges have failed before. |

One reason for renewed litigation is that assault weapons bans were proposed in several states in the past 12 months. Besides Washington, Delaware enacted a ban in June, and Illinois enacted its ban in January. But Colorado failed to get a ban out of committee, which was likewise the case in New Mexico. In Michigan, where several new gun laws were passed this session, the legislature pointedly avoided taking up a ban. In all five of those states, Democrats control both houses of the legislature, and the governorships. In a special legislative session called by the Republican governor but not yet scheduled, Tennessee will also take up a ban bill that is almost certainly doomed to failure, along with some other proposed reforms. |

Senate Bill 1230 purports to make changes in response to the Bruen decision; however, it does little more than show Hawaii’s disdain for the Second Amendment and the ability for law-abiding citizens to protect themselves. This legislation massively expands “gun-free zones” and creates a complicated patchwork of where people can lawfully carry. Further, it creates a permitting system with subjective factors that are ripe for abuse. |

Almost one year after a man shot and killed another man outside his Keene home, investigators said Wednesday that no charges will be filed.
Shane Frazier said he acted in self-defense when he shot and killed Kristopher Chagnon, 27, in May 2022. Officials with the attorney general's office said there was insufficient evidence to disprove that claim.
Investigators said witnesses told them that before the shooting, Frazier found one of his children next door, which upset him. After Frazier and his child went home, a group of people followed them, standing outside his door, and one of them went into the house. |

From 1965 to 2021, Gallup polls have consistently found that Americans believe crime is going up, whether or not it is. What has increased is the perception that crime is pervasive. So, jacked-up fear without the actual crime.
Also, we don’t have data that shows more guns keep people and communities safer. About 30 careful studies reviewed by Scientific American in October 2017 linked more guns to more crime – not less. |

Courts have struck down limits on gun ownership for domestic abusers, accused felons, and young adults. They’ve overturned bans on guns with shaved-off serial numbers and guns made with 3D printers. All were overturned based on the notion that the U.S. of the 1700s didn’t have gun control.
But Spitzer says that actually, the opposite is true. “It’s difficult to think of any kind of gun law that you can think of today that didn’t exist in some form 150, 200, 300 years ago. In many respects, guns and weapons were more strictly regulated in our first 300 years of history than in the last 30 years.” |

The NRA taunted President Biden over his 2020 pledge to "defeat" the group, saying in a new video that his statement is "backfiring" after the U.S. tipped into becoming a permitless carry-majority nation.
The NRA video, released Wednesday and exclusively obtained by Fox News Digital, shows various members of the prominent gun rights group criticizing Biden for yelling "about taking our guns," while arguing his "fascism" on Second Amendment rights is "in the minority."
"While you’ve been busy stocking your fridge with ice cream," one young girl in the video said before other members chime in, "pro-America legislatures have passed constitutional carry in 27 states with support from the NRA." |

On April 29, 2023, Mobile County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shooting in Grand Bay, Alabama. Upon arrival, they discovered Oliver Turner, deceased from a gunshot wound. The homeowner, 80-year-old Lee Eubanks, informed deputies that Turner, a friend staying at the residence, had been drinking heavily and behaving belligerently. Turner even attempted to set the house on fire while Eubanks, his niece Michelle Jones, and her 8-year-old daughter were inside.
Jones stated that when she returned home, she noticed Turner’s erratic behavior and found the exterior of the house on fire. After being dragged from her bed and nearly doused in acetone, Jones grabbed her daughter and retreated to her vehicle. |

“For anybody that can carry, we’re just going to give a gun to all the teachers. That’s not the case,” said police officer Seth Capps.
They said they will provide students and faculties an armed, self-defense option prior to the arrival of law enforcement.
A school guardian, according to Capps, provides students and faculties an armed, self-defense option prior to the arrival of law enforcement in the event of an active shooter or “active killer” on campus; he or she is not a school marshal, not law enforcement, not a security guard. Their only role is to respond to an active killer event, he said.
A written application of 20 pages long as well as extensive training is required to even be considered a guardian, he said. |

Have a realistic (red flag ) law that protects the privacy of mentally ill people but has a commonsense approach to warn family members and law enforcement if the person is a harm to themselves or others. This needs some study because you can't just take someone's property away on hearsay and how do they get their property back?
Background checks on firearm purchases is a must including long guns. A waiting period is not unreasonable to ask. Both sides of the debate have to give and take!
Do away with open carry. If you want to carry we need to stick with the State issued handgun carry permit which requires training and testing to obtain. |

North Carolina lawmakers pulled back Wednesday from a bill that would let people carry concealed guns without a permit.
The measure faces an uphill battle now, with the top Senate Republican saying Wednesday that he doesn’t think it’s time to take up the issue. In the House of Representatives, lawmakers punted on a scheduled vote, indicating the bill didn’t have enough support to pass the chamber.
House Bill 189 would let any legal gun owner conceal that gun. Right now gun owners need a concealed carry permit to do that, which is typically issued by their local sheriff. That process requires a background check, proficiency test and a test on the rules for self defense and where guns are allowed. |

Jonathan Schmidt arrived at Federal Police headquarters in the center of Rio de Janeiro with a travel bag carrying a golden pistol and seven rifles, one peeking out of the zipper.
“I’m in love with guns," said Schmidt. “I’d have over 2,000 if the government allowed.”
Schmidt already has his firearms registered with the army, as required by law for sport shooters like him, but experts have cast doubt on the reliability of its database, and said lax oversight has allowed such guns to fall into criminal hands. Schmidt was adding his guns to the police registry on Wednesday to comply with a push by Brazil's new left-wing president. |

Renewing a legal battle that some had considered settled, gun rights advocates filed a federal lawsuit this week challenging a California law that places a 10-day waiting period on most firearm purchases.
The law, which requires people to wait the prescribed "cooling off" period even if they've passed a more immediate background check, is aimed in part at deterring people from rushing to harm themselves or others with newly purchased weapons during periods of sudden distress or anger. |

In the first ruling on a California gun law since the U.S. Supreme Court reduced the government’s authority to regulate firearms, a state appeals court has upheld a ban on semiautomatic AR-15-style rifles that state law classifies as “assault weapons.”
The Third District Court of Appeal in Sacramento said the high-capacity rifles, which can be fired repeatedly without reloading, are weapons “not typically possessed by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes.” That means a state can still prohibit their sale and possession, the court said, even under the tightened standards the Supreme Court announced last June. |

And like many meetings in past years, the 2023 forum wasn’t without its highlights—and even some surprises.
With superstar celebrities like President Donald Trump (R) and Florida Gov. The Montana legislature has adjourned from the 2023 session. Thanks to the hard work of Representative Ler, Governor Greg Gianforte has signed HB 356 into law, which ensures that taxpayers don't fund businesses that discriminate against the firearm industry. This bill is crucial in preventing anti-gun corporations, banks, and executives from imposing gun control through denying services to the firearm industry.
Additionally, NRA thanks Representative Seekins-Crowe and Senator Usher for their work on HB 674, which creates an optional enhanced carry permit that will be recognized by five additional states - Delaware, Minnesota, New Mexico, South Carolina, and Washington. |

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday backed an effort to lower the statewide age requirement to purchase a rifle, calling a current law that bars 18-year-olds from buying firearms "unconstitutional."
Florida law requires residents to be at least 21 years of age in order to purchase firearms. An individual who is at least 18 can buy a rifles and shotguns if that person is a law enforcement officer, correctional officer or service member.
Republican lawmakers want to change that requirement and on Friday the state House passed a bill that would lower the minimum age to buy "long" guns to 18. |

House Bill 2005 B is the amended version of House Bill 2005 that also includes the provisions of House Bills 2006 and 2007. It goes above and beyond existing federal laws and regulations in restricting private individuals from making their own firearms for personal use, denies Second Amendment rights to young adults aged 18-20 by prohibiting them from possessing commonly owned semi-automatic firearms, and further degrades Oregon’s preemption law by permitting the governing body of a city, county, district or any other entity that falls within the definition of municipal corporation, to prohibit the otherwise lawful and licensed concealed carry in public buildings and on their "adjacent" grounds. |

TO REMEMBER |
America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She well knows that by one enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standards of freedom. — JOHN QUINCY ADAMS (1821) |
