"A...With 11,000 agents working and 15,000 support personnel working at offices all over the nation, the sheer size of the FBI allows it to fall prey to the very kind of bureaucracy that lie at the core of the 9-11 security failing."

"...According to Report No. 02-27, an alarming number of FBI weapons were stolen or simply lost. Since some of the missing arms include such specialize items as tear gas guns, carbines and machine guns (also known as MP5s), the thought of them falling into the hands of criminals is especially frightening."

"In addition, some 142 "red handled" guns (colored disabled weapons used in FBI training sessions) were also reported missing. ..."

"Mother’s Day -- the 'anti-gun' Million Mom March will gather on the West Lawn in D.C."

"Meanwhile, the pro-gun Second Amendment Freedoms for Everyone (SAFER) will rally nearby. Both organizations claim to speak against gun violence and for children’s safety. Yet each espouses diametrically opposed positions on gun legislation."

"A specific piece of legislation will be the focus of debate this year. ...But the matter that is fundamentally at issue runs much deeper than any one piece of legislation. The basic question is whether private gun ownership is a constitutional and individual right, or a reckless practice that endangers society and children."

"This first batch of data examines surveys that parents complete during well-child exams. It measures media exposure, gun storage and communication between the parent and health care provider and also measures pediatricians’ levels of comfort and effectiveness in talking with parents about these issues. During well-office visits, parents of children ages two to 11 are asked to complete surveys. More than 100 pediatric practices throughout the United States are participating." ...

"Parents were also asked about gun storage. Of the nearly 900 parents surveyed, 246 own some kind of gun and nearly half are not storing them safely, based on the recommendations of the AAP."

Scroll through the articles on this page to see some articles on how the Democrats will phrase their new efforts on taking away our guns.

The irony is they know that the majority of Americans believe in the Second Amendment, yet they still want to take our freedoms away.

I thought that our representatives were supposed to represent the people.

"LAWMAKERS IN our state have been debating various matters involving citizens carrying concealed weapons. Many people seem always to be debating such matters, even though it has been reliably determined that while criminals often use guns to commit crimes, non-criminals never do. Some citizens do have accidents with paring knives, however, and that’s certainly something that should be investigated."

"The thing is, Article 2-a of the Bill of Rights of the New Hampshire Constitution says in its entirety, 'All persons have the right to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves, their families, their property and the state.' It seems fairly clear. It must be admitted, however, that it doesn’t specifically mention paring knives."

"If Congress allows the federal ban on assault weapons to expire, the law's public-safety successes will disappear with it. Lawmakers should not let that happen. The ban is saving lives."

-------
Not according to the National Institute of Justice, which was specifically tasked with evaluating the ban. The NIJ found that:

* The ban has failed to reduce the average number of victims per gun murder incident or multiple gunshot wound victims.

* The public safety benefits of the 1994 ban have not yet been demonstrated.

"Our legislators, through their infinite wisdom (and at the direction of the NRA), don't see any correlation between the lead from bullets going into the ground and then working its way into the water we drink."

Considering that the gun banners have tried to use every tactic available to them to destroy the right to keep and bear arms, is it really so paranoid to believe that they are using dubious environmental claims to achieve their goals?

MA: Assault weapons must be banned -- again

"It is true that 90 percent of gun-related crimes are committed with ordinary handguns, which are not affected by the assault weapon ban. But according to Attorney General John Ashcroft's statistics, the number of banned weapons traced to crime has decreased by 65.8 percent across the nation from 1995 -- the first full year the ban went into effect -- to 2002."

KABA Note: Well, duh! When your initial sample is inadequate, as in the case of the minute number of crimes committed with what you call "assault" weapons, the percentage reduction will obviously be higher. This is not an indication of the effectiveness of the AW ban.

"...Perhaps that is why every major police organization in the country supported the effort to renew the federal assault weapons ban. ..."

KABA Note: By "police organization" this writer, of course, means the politically appointed bureaucrats. According to the rank-and-file police officers, very few of them support this absurd law.

"Let's be clear. Semiautomatic assault weapons have no self-protection purpose."

KABA Note: Tell that to the Korean shop owners who used the weapons that make you quake in your boots to defend themselves against thugs during the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles in 1992.

"Unlike rifles and other recreational firearms, they have no sporting purpose."

KABA Note: Point to the portion of the Second Amendment that specifies "sport" as justification for keeping and bearing arms.

"The constitutional right to own guns has never been found to extend to military-designed weapons of mass destruction."

KABA Note: Actually it has. According to one of the founders, "Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American." ~~Tench Coxe, of Pennsylvania, The Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788.

I was right, they were wrong. Bush turned out to be worse than my wildest dreams. Today I will present some alternatives for 2004." ...

"What did my fellow economists present as the benefits of a Bush presidency? He would strengthen Social Security, cut taxes, institute education vouchers, hold down the growth of government, strengthen national defense, pay down the debt, and promote free trade. Really?"

"He did pass a small cut in taxes, but tax cuts without decreases in government spending are practically meaningless. Social Security has been "strengthened" with the prescription drug giveaway, a mammoth increase in government spending that greatly undermines the financial solvency of Social Security and drives up drug prices for the rest of us. Bush’s "No Child Left Behind" is an illogical policy that will only serve to further entrench Washington bureaucracy in your local public schools. Government spending has skyrocketed with record rates of growth and the phony surplus has been turned into very real and gigantic deficits. Bush has not used his veto power, but this supposed free trader has used protectionist measures to insult our allies and threatened the globe with a protectionist trade war. Meanwhile the dollar is dropping like a stone."

Note: This is a link that's also related to yesterday's story about the convenience store owner who thwarted a robbery.

-------
"Now Metro Police are searching for the suspect. They say that victims of crime should think twice before taking the law into their own hands."

"Metro Robbery Det. James Arendall said, 'We would never say to fire back. Just let them have what they want and hope they don't shoot you and let them go.' "

-------
If you notice, the assailants fired the first shot, but apparently Detective Arendall is too busy worrying about giving armed thugs a safe environment to do as they please instead of praising the would-be victims for fighting back.

During the (formerly) annual Chesapeake Bay-Bridge Walk, pedestrians are given a glimpse of how Americans are to be treated from now on.

-------
"In a satirical look at the future on one episode of the Simpsons, American citizens were whipped by giant robots reminiscent of the Sentinels in X-Men comics as they were herded past memorials to liberty such as the U.S. Capitol and the Washington Monument. While things are not yet quite that bad, they may be very well on the way in light of the so-called security measures being taken that don’t have so much to do with actually preventing acts of terrorism as conditioning the American people to pliantly do as they are told by those claiming to wield authority."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The history of liberty is the history of the limitations placed on the government. — WOODROW WILSON
