It took me a long time to become fully comfortable wearing a holstered firearm. I’ve been carrying concealed for only two short years, and in the beginning months I carried the gun without a round in the chamber. I’m by no means scared of guns -- they are a part of my everyday life. As a rifle competitor, prior to obtaining my CCW license, loaded rifles stayed on the line. Walking around with a loaded pistol, though safely holstered just felt odd and kind of wrong. Gunsite Academy took my slight discomfort and replaced it with confidence. Not arrogance, but comfort in my equipment and ability. |

A wonderful thing happened on my way to a show in January. It was two shows, actually—the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show and the Safari Club International Annual Hunters’ Convention, two gun-and-outdoor industry trade shows that hadn’t occurred in two years, but that’s not the point. On my way to these shows, I realized I can no longer shrink from who I am or take time to explain it to someone who will never understand my worldview. Just won’t do it. I am as advertised, and I can’t see anything wrong with that. |

In Donez v. Leprino Foods, Inc., the employee got into a physical altercation with another employee who had pushed him first. Both employees were terminated for engaging in workplace violence. The employee sued, arguing that he was fired in violation of “a well-established public policy for all individuals, including employees, to defend themselves.” (Well, that was a new one to me!) In this case, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit noted that “the Colorado Supreme Court has not recognized a job-related right to self-defense,” but that the Tenth Circuit did not need to speculate whether it would do so because the employee here did not assert self-defense until after he was fired. |

DaBaby will not face criminal charges over an incident last month in which he allegedly shot a man in the leg after he entered the rapper’s North Carolina estate, local authorities said Thursday.
The April 13 shooting left the unidentified man with non-life-threatening injuries. In a 911 call recording and a later Instagram post, DaBaby confirmed that he had shot the man in the leg after the man scaled a wall and trespassed on his property.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, the police department in Troutman, North Carolina said that after consulting with the county district attorney’s office, the investigation had been “completed and closed,” adding, “there will be no criminal charges filed at this time.” |

Last night, the Connecticut General Assembly adjourned from its 2022 Regular Session. This year, NRA Members and Second Amendment supporters worked hard to contact their legislators on multiple pro-gun and anti-gun measures. Fortunately, several egregious gun control proposals were defeated. Unfortunately, the General Assembly missed an opportunity to pass pro-gun legislation that would have strengthened the right to self-defense and allowed the transfer of certain firearms and magazines. |

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services reports as of April 30, 2022, Florida now has over 2.5 million permit holders. This number has steadily risen every year and is more than double the number reported in 2012. This comes on the heals of Governor Ron DeSantis announcing last week that he plans to sign Constitutional Carry legislation into law while he is governor. NRA-ILA staunchly supports this effort and has been the leader in the constitutional carry movement across the country. |

We’ve seen a flood of violent crime in New York state and a tidal wave of crime in New York City’s gun-free zones. The New York Police Department released data showing felony assaults are up 33% this year. Felony assaults are up more than 50% from a month ago. Stabbings and slashings on public buses, subways, and trains are up 70% compared to last year. Assaults with a club or blunt instrument are up 48%. These attacks are happening where the politicians told us we’d be protected and safe. Instead of protecting us, New York politicians want to ensure we are disarmed and vulnerable. |

Nebraska’s Republican Gov. Pete Ricketts has come out swinging in support of Constitutional carry in the Cornhusker State, a goal he calls “unfinished business” in a weekly column released May 3 in which he reaffirmed his commitment to Second Amendment rights in general and permitless carry specifically.
An effort to pass Constitutional carry this year fell just nine votes short, and in his column, Gov. Ricketts pointed the finger of blame, noting, “The final vote that failed to advance the bill was 31-9. All nine opponents were Democrats.” |

An avowed sportsman, AG Schmitt is optimistic the Supreme Court will favorably decide in the forthcoming New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen case to repeal outstanding may-issue firearms laws in blue states.
“I think the fact that they didn't take any Second Amendment cases before Justice Barrett came on might lead you to believe that there weren't five votes for something like this,” Schmitt told me. “Now they believe they have five votes because it only takes four to take a case. And, of course, it takes five to have a majority view on it.”
“We're very hopeful that since they've taken the Second Amendment case that it will get a favorable outcome. Missouri has been very involved with that.” |

On May 2, 2022, the New York Attorney General’s Office filed its Second Amended Complaint against the National Rifle Association.
Not only the Association but its Chief Executive Officer Wayne LaPierre, Secretary, and General Counsel John Frazer, Former Treasurer and CFO Wilson “Woody” Philips, and Former Deputy CEO Josh Powell.
As with the original complaint and the previous amended complaint, this one is full of very specific, largely verifiable, and utterly damning charges against NRA’s top officers and executives. Many of the previous accusations have been admitted to by some of the various parties, while Woody Phillips has refused to answer most questions, based on his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. |

U.S. Rep. Ken Buck, R-Windsor, landed a coveted endorsement Wednesday from the National Rifle Association’s Political Victory Fund entering the Republican primary election.
“I am proud to once again be endorsed by the NRA,” Buck said. “Coloradans know that I will always be a steadfast and ardent defender of our 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms.”
Election Day is June 28. In-person voting is held 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day. The final day to register as a voter and still receive a ballot in the mail is June 20. |

During Wednesday night’s council work session, Mayor Stephanie Henrick issued a proclamation declaring Friday, June 3, as National Gun Violence Awareness Day in the borough.
“In proclaiming this, we honor and remember all victims and survivors of gun violence and declare that, as a community and country, we must do more to reduce and ultimately eliminate gun violence,” Henrick read from the proclamation.

I will vote YES on Tillamook County’s Measure 29-161, the “Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance.”
The measure provides that Tillamook County would be a “sanctuary” where state and federal laws – those viewed by gunowners as an encroachment upon their 2nd amendment rights under the U.S. constitution -- will not be enforced by local law enforcement.
That’s just symbolism. As a practical matter, nothing will change. Despite some hysterical comments and untruths from opponents, your vote is simply a statement of support for gun ownership rights, nothing more. |
