National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre delivered a fiery — some might call it pure boilerplate — speech to a crowded members’ meeting Saturday focusing on one of the organization’s favorite targets: the media.
Using a series of clips from past confrontations with the press and speeches over the years in which he predicted the course of the gun control effort that has become a gun prohibition movement, LaPierre threw punch after verbal punch.

While speaking at the National Rifle Association (NRA) convention on Friday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott spoke his mind about the “true source of gun violence.”
Abbott pushed back on gun control advocates arguing that “the answer to gun violence is not to take guns away, the answer is to strengthen the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.”
Friday’s meeting was the first convention since the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, as well as the resulting activism in favor of gun control.

The restaurant, Ellen's, is located in downtown Dallas, where the NRA is holding its annual meeting this weekend. Owner Joe Groves told television station KTVT that no NRA member wants kids or police officers to get killed and that "people like me don't want to take their guns away either. Can we not have both?" |

A top official at the National Rifle Association warned Republicans of what’s at stake if Democrats flip the House in the 2018 midterms. Chris Cox, the chief of the NRA’s legislative-lobbying arm, said Saturday at the group’s annual convention in Dallas that “everything will be on the table” if Republicans lose control of the House. “If we lose Congress and the White House, we don’t have to guess what they’ll do to our rights — they’re already openly calling for a complete repeal of the Second Amendment,” Cox said, according to the Washington Times.

They are the "good guys with guns" the National Rifle Association says are needed to protect students from shooters: a school police officer, a teacher who moonlights in law enforcement, a veteran sheriff. Yet in a span of 48 hours in March, the three were responsible for gun safety lapses that put students in danger. The school police officer accidentally fired his gun in his Virginia office, sending a bullet through a wall into a middle school classroom.

Competitive shooter Tony Holmes was asked: What would you say when someone criticizes our Second Amendment and wants to pass more gun control laws in the wake of a tragedy, like a school shooting? “The Second Amendment was written to protect the people of this country against a tyrannical government and the ability to protect themselves and their home. It doesn’t decide what particular guns should be disallowed. |

President Trump's long-delayed visit to Britain to meet Prime Minister Theresa May is scheduled for July 13. Meanwhile, it was only last month he had warmly received French President Emmanuel Macron in Washington. But despite the outward appearance of warm ties with Britain and France, traditionally two of the United States' strongest European allies, Trump managed to stoke outrage and anger in both London and Paris this weekend — and he did so with a single speech. |

The National Rifle Association came to Texas on a mission, determined to fight the perception that Second Amendment political forces are on the defensive going into this year’s crucial midterm elections. Get the latest news, sports and food features sent directly to your inbox. They found their new rallying point here. Upward of 80,000 NRA members — President Donald Trump and association officials call it a record turnout — left the four-day convention to fight for Second Amendment-friendly candidates nationwide, using a Texas tragedy as a grisly counterpoint to gun-control activists who have built momentum after a deadly Florida high school shooting. |

A bill that would allow Oklahomans to carry handguns in public without getting permission from the state is on Gov. Mary Fallin’s desk. State senators gave Senate Bill 1212 their final approval late Wednesday night on a measure that allows gun owners to carry their firearms openly or hidden from view without a permit, passing state background checks or paying the related fees. They also won’t have to take 16 hours of firearms safety training currently required before carrying a gun in public. |

For Steven Briggs, a gun show is a part of what makes Louisiana the sportsman's paradise. He also says it's no place for a criminal. "Anybody that comes in has to do a background check before the gun is purchased. So they have to be legal through the United States to own a gun," said Briggs. |
