The John Walsh Show on NBC may have dealt a blow (4/29) to both goals by 'ambushing' three women who agreed to discuss their gun ownership and advocacy on air."

"Kozinski believes, as do I, that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to arms, one that is meant, in part, to allow the people to revolt against a government that becomes oppressive." "For years, we were told that only 'gun nuts' believed that, despite considerable evidence that the Framers believed it, too. Now this sort of thinking is becoming widespread. Even Judge Pregerson, whom UCLA Law Professor Eugene Volokh calls 'one of the most liberal judges on the Ninth Circuit — and perhaps in the whole country,' writes that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to arms." |

Quite a surprise for an 8-year old Tucson boy who found a loaded gun in his backpack. The boy is a student at Rio Vista Elementary School in the Amphitheater District. Police say it appears he did not know the gun was in his backpack, but he did the right thing by taking it to the office as soon as he got to school. The child told police he left the backpack in his mother's car over the weekend. The mother says she went drinking with another woman and three men Friday night, and one of the men put the backpack in the trunk. Police tell News 13 they may never know where the gun came from.
------- It's shocking that this child hasn't been charged and expelled under Zero Tolerance policies. |

"Government is not subject to competition, has no pride in craftsmanship, is perfectly satisfied with shoddy work, and doesn't care if the customer likes the product he receives or not. For that matter, the government doesn't care if it provides the proper product. A carpenter couldn't get away with delivering a table if the customer ordered a wall. Unlike government, carpenters don't roam the neighborhood providing their services to people who don't want them, don't need them, and haven't asked for them. Can you imagine a carpenter just wandering in off the street, building a wall across the middle of your living room, and then presenting you with a highly inflated bill, when you didn't want the wall there in the first place? If you refuse to pay the bill, can you imagine the carpenter sending in armed goons to take the money from you, or kill you in the attempt?" |

"The trouble is that, even if there are five votes for finding that the Second Amendment secures an individual right, I highly doubt that there'll be that many votes for finding that assault weapons bans violate this right. This is because assault weapons are actually not materially different from other semiautomatic weapons; they are neither materially more harmful, nor are they materially more beneficial. If you can't own an assault weapon, you can still buy another weapon that's just as dangerous, and also just as effective. So I think this makes assault weapons bans pointless -- but it also makes them not very burdensome." |

Specially trained Milwaukee County sheriff's deputies will search vehicles they stop for minor offenses in Milwaukee if they have the driver's consent. Sixteen deputies have been assigned to a new gun crime task force. Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke says the deputies have taken 40 hours of constitutional rights training. The searches are restricted for Milwaukee police officers. Opponents say the consent searches will invite abuse of constitutional rights. Clarke says the department's new scanners will allow deputies to monitor police department radio frequencies to determine where illegal gun activity is taking place. Milwaukee's Police Chief Arthur Jones says allowing deputies to stop and search people isn't in the best interest of the city's citizens.
