"Earlier this week I had the pleasure of taking Cody Wilson, mastermind behind Defense Distributed and the Liberator firearm, out to dinner. Well, technically Robert took him out to dinner and I tagged along. But since Robert is otherwise occupied and can’t post at the moment, I get to write the story the way I want. Anyway, while we’ve already interviewed Cody Wilson about the nature of his work and his beliefs (we liked him before he was cool) it was nice to get an update on how he’s doing since he became one of the most feared and hated people to gun control advocates. And let me say that anyone who can make Chuck Schumer brown his pants is a friend in my book . . ." ... |

"USA TODAY approves of the president’s plan to create and distribute TV, radio and print ads promoting gun safety. The editorial board believes these ads would save lives by reminding gun owners to store and handle firearms responsibly. What could possibly go wrong? . . ."

That’s Edward McClelland’s opening salvo in Group Wants To Give Shotguns to Single Moms [via nbc.chicago.com]. Mind you it is an editorial. So I guess it’s OK for Eddy to claim that Chicago is successfully addressing its status as the murder capital of the United States (500 firearms-related homicides last year) without providing supporting evidence. In the sense that an editorial gives a writer the freedom to make shit up without blowback. Like . . ." ... |

"Since this topic has come up I have found some interesting statistics about the civilian use of firearms in the U.S. and also some info for those countries that have banned civilian guns. Although the data is from 2008, I think you will be very surprised by the numbers. This kind of information is rarely published as it does not further the anti-gun agenda. You will notice that nowhere do you ever read about the number of lives saved but rather just the number of lives taken by firearms. ..." ... |

"Sometimes, being neutral has its advantages. Switzerland has produced chocolate, multipurpose pocket knives, Swatches, secretive banking laws and a high standard of living. Coincidence? Maybe. In terms of firearms, all that neutrality means the guns issued to Swiss troops through the years have seen, well, lots of skiing, marching, target practice and some cleaning. And very little actual war-fighting. As a result, Swiss surplus firearms are often in very good shape compared to those of some of their less neutral European neighbors ... The other benefit to not going to war often is that the focus can be put on quality. Attention to detail, accuracy, reliability, maintenance, fit, and finish are more important ... Which brings us to the K31 . . ." ... |

In the wake of the failed background check bill and the rest of the gun grabbers’ agenda in Congress, representatives from every major civilian disarmament organization met to discuss the future of their efforts to further restrict Americans’ right to keep and bear arms and how best to accomplish their goals. Naturally, the meeting took place at Newtown High School. Not content with its recent victory in Congress, it is already looking forward to the 2014 midterm elections, when it hopes to sink the prospect of effective gun control for another decade or more. How can supporters of sensible measures to prevent the proliferation of deadly firearms—a group that includes the majority of Americans—hope to defeat the gun lobby?" ... |

Granted, Manchin's apologists would no doubt point out that he was speaking metaphorically, and that his meaning was only that the NRA had unnecessarily agitated gun owners."

That would be a disaster. Remember when your history teacher told you that environmentally insensitive white guys slaughtered millions of buffalo out West? Before the white guys arrived, disease had more-or-less wiped out the native American population. When the natives stopped hunting (’cause they were dead), the buffalo population exploded. Removing hunters from the California eco-system might not have such catastrophic effects. But it might. ... Now, truth vs. fiction . . ." ... |

"It’s not really Constitutional Carry, which four states enjoy and another (Arkansas) will have later this summer, because local home-rule government units can place restrictions (albeit, probably unconstitutional) and may try to make an arrest of an Illinois gun owner carrying concealed – or otherwise."
"Of course, if they choose to make an arrest based upon a local ordinance that regulates transportation or possession of a firearm that’s contrary to the Seventh Circuit’s Moore decision striking down the Illinois prohibition on carry outside the home as unconstitutional, they will be risking a 1983 lawsuit for ... violation of civil rights under the color of authority." ... |
