WA: Washington Supreme Court upholds ban on large ammo magazines

The Washington Supreme Court has upheld the state’s ban on high-capacity magazines, the latest in a two-year-long saga that has largely played out in Southwest Washington.

Lawmakers in 2022 banned the sale of ammo magazines holding more than 10 bullets in an effort to thwart deadly mass shootings. However, a gun store in Kelso allegedly continued to sell the magazines and picked up a civil lawsuit from the Washington State Attorney General in July 2023. The store owner — with help from the Pasco-based advocacy group The Silent Majority — sued, saying the law violated the U.S. Constitution.

Missouri Republicans are again trying to enact a law that prohibits local police from enforcing federal gun laws.

The Second Amendment Preservation Act was deemed unconstitutional by a federal court two years ago after first being enacted in 2021. A new version was introduced this year. It was debated in the Missouri Senate on Tuesday afternoon. Having been amended several times, it still needs approval from both chambers before it can be sent to the governor.

Under the new SAPA, law enforcement departments would be fined $50,000 if found enforcing federal gun laws.

The Washington Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the state’s ban on the sale of gun ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.

The law, passed in 2022, faced a challenge from a Kelso gun shop that argued the ban on selling the magazines violates the state constitution, which protects “the right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state.”

The First Circuit Court of Appeals was asked Thursday to consider whether and to what extent immigrants lacking permanent legal status are considered part of “the people” who are constitutionally protected under the Second Amendment’s “right of the people to keep and bear Arms.”

On appeal from the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, Moreno Vizcaíno-Peguero, a Dominican migrant living in Puerto Rico, claims the statute of his conviction under the Gun Control Act prohibiting noncitizen immigrants from possessing guns is “a complete and absolute ban on firearm possession without a particularized or individualized determination of dangerousness or untrustworthiness.”

Proponents of the Protecting Communities and Preserving the Second Amendment Act of 2025 assert that the bill strengthens gun rights by modernizing firearm commerce and enhancing background checks. However, the reality is far from this rosy depiction. Under the guise of protecting public safety, the act imposes federal mandates that centralize control over firearm transactions and mental health data, setting dangerous precedents for gun ownership regulation.

In a case that could send shockwaves through anti-gun laws across the country, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit just heard arguments in Kipke v. Moore., and by all appearances, the pro-Second Amendment side walked in with solid footing—and walked out with momentum. What looked like a dead-end fight in front of a left-leaning judicial panel may actually flip in favor of your constitutional rights.

Here’s what went down—and why it matters.

You almost have to admire the persistence.

When gun-loving Missouri Republicans don’t succeed in their first or second attempts at making life more dangerous for the state’s bus and rail riders, you can be sure they will try, try again.

They’re trying again.

The Missouri House last week passed a bill that would allow passengers to carry concealed guns with them on public transit.

Right now that’s illegal. It ought to stay that way.

But the bill’s backers say Missouri gun owners ought to be able to practice their Second Amendment rights on a crowded bus, the better to protect themselves if violence breaks out.

The Washington Supreme Court has upheld the state’s ban on high-capacity gun magazines, reversing a lower court’s previous decision.

The law was first passed in 2022, making it illegal to buy or sell magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds. However, people who already own “high-capacity magazines” can keep them, according to The Seattle Times.

In a 7-2 majority opinion, Justice Charles Johnson stated that large-capacity magazines (LCMs) are not considered “arms” under constitutional definitions and are not necessary for self-defense. Six national gun rights groups had filed separate briefs during the lawsuit, hoping the Supreme Court would kill the ban.

As reported by WHEC, the 17-year-old suspect entered the Denise Road store wearing a mask and pointing a firearm at the clerk. The clerk, who is a licensed pistol permit holder, responded by drawing his legally registered handgun and firing at the suspect. The teen sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and fled the scene, later found by officers on nearby Lake Avenue. A Greece police officer applied a tourniquet before the suspect was transported to Strong Hospital for surgery. He remains hospitalized under the supervision of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Congresswoman Sheri Biggs, Representative for South Carolina’s third congressional district, has introduced two bills to restore and defend American gun rights. The Protecting the Mailing of Firearms Act repeals a federal prohibition on mailing concealable firearms through the United States Postal Service (USPS), while the No Frivolous Applications for Short-Barreled Shotguns Act removes short-barreled shotguns from the National Firearms Act of 1935 (NFA), eliminating what Biggs refers to as “costly and burdensome registration requirements.”

NV: Balancing Act: Mental Health Crisis and Second Amendment Rights in Nevada

Nevada’s Senate Bill 347 (SB347) has ignited a contentious debate over the balance between public safety and constitutional rights. The bill permits law enforcement to confiscate firearms from individuals placed under a mental health crisis hold, aiming to prevent potential harm. However, critics argue that this measure infringes upon Second and Fourth Amendment protections, raising concerns about due process and government overreach.

Under SB347, officers can immediately seize firearms found in the possession or vicinity of a person undergoing a mental health crisis hold. The individual receives a receipt and information on reclaiming their property. If no legal barriers exist, the firearm is returned upon the person’s release.
