40% of Americans say they trust the federal government to do what's right at least most of the time. That's down 17% from a survey conducted for the center in October, but it is higher than the 29% recorded in July.
Government favorableness ratings followed the same pattern. The percentage of people viewing the government favorably rose from 50% last summer to 78% in the fall, only to drop 18% since then. |

"Attorney General John Ashcroft on Friday defended the FBI's reorganization plan against charges the new, proactive approach to fighting terror will infringe on Americans' constitutional rights."
"If you sit and wait for a crime to happen, and then you respond to it, that isn't a very good prevention strategy," Ashcroft said in an interview with Fox News. "You have to be able to develop or to get a lead from your own information, not wait for something to happen to trigger your activity." |

"For reasons that remain impenetrable, if not just plain contrary, our inscrutable Transportation Department continues to hold out against arming airline pilots. Why they did so remains a mystery."
"Pilots need to concentrate on flying the plane," non-explained John Magaw, undersecretary of transportation. But can you think of a greater aid to concentration on the part of the cockpit crew than knowing a sidearm is available should the cockpit door suddenly give way?" |

"On the morning of April 20, 1999, two gun-wielding teen-agers walked into their school, Columbine High, in Littleton, Colorado, opened fire and killed 12 fellow students and one teacher—perhaps the most shocking recent example of gun violence in America. The massacre prompted U.S. filmmaker Michael Moore, armed with cameras and boom mikes, to travel across America—and Canada—to try to understand why the United States has the highest gun-related murder rate in the world." |

"A Bush administration program that calls for federal agents to prosecute gun crimes runs afoul of the U.S. Constitution, some legal scholars believe. "In actuality and despite what the federal courts have felt constrained to do, the federal government has no more legitimate constitutional authority over gun crime that happens in one state than it does over jaywalking or drunk driving," said Gene Healy, Cato Institute legal scholar." |

"Chutzpah isn't a word often used in connection with typical admirers of Islamonazi terrorism. But John Walker Lindh is special. In federal court, Lindh's attorney has claimed that prosecuting him for firearms crime would violate Mr. Lindh's Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. The Second Amendment claim was preceded by another claim that prosecuting Lindh for joining al Qaeda would violate his First Amendment right of assembly." |

"The tragic death of a Mesa teenager from an airgun pellet Monday underscores yet again the need for youngsters to be instructed in gun safety — even if they never intend to hunt or own a gun themselves. That’s "gun safety" in its traditional meaning of "learn to respect guns and handle them properly," not in its hijacked meaning of "restrict the wicked things as much as possible." |

From a 60's anti-big-goverment radical echoes a message we're all to familiar as being imminently nescesary. These skills are needed if we wish to subvert the liars, here lie methodologies. I prefer the later.
If we wish a look back or a look into the 60's and one side of the politics, this is it. In retrospect, after learning of Ed Lansdale and his manipulations in the 50's in setting up Nam (www.prouty.org); Abbie stands vindicated. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
To prohibit a citizen from wearing or carrying a war arm . . . is an unwarranted restriction upon the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of constitutional privilege. [Wilson v. State, 33 Ark. 557, at 560, 34 Am. Rep. 52, at 54 (1878)] |
