Mayors Against Illegal Guns. Moms Demand Action. Everytown Creative Council. And now, the Everytown Authors Council. Michael Bloomberg has opened up a new front in the cultural war on your gun rights, and this time he’s hoping to use the power of the pen to restrict your right to keep and bear arms. More than 100 authors have signed on to a statement of principles in support of the anti-gun agenda:

Against the backdrop of every major Second Amendment case rests a fundamental and profound philosophical question. The question is this: does the right of the people to keep and bear arms exist as a quality, feature, attribute, aspect, condition, or characteristic intrinsic to the individual, existing, then, within the individual, or is the right to be perceived as an endowment, bestowed on the individual by others, something, then, extrinsic to the individual—existing, if at all, outside the individual?

Should you have to get training and a permit in order to carry a concealed pistol? Some lawmakers say no. They are backing a bill that would get rid of such requirements in Michigan.

“Why does big brother need to know who I am if I want to carry a weapon?” asked Rep. Peter Lucido, R-Macomb County, who is also an attorney.

Lucido co-sponsored bills that would change Michigan’s gun laws. Right now as long as you don’t have a felony conviction or history of severe mental illness, you can carry a gun out in the open. If you want to carry a concealed pistol, however, you need a permit. Lucido says it is unnecessary.

She says when the men left, she was touched inappropriately by one of them.

"He fondled my breast, and I moved," Coumba says. "I told him, 'You can't do that to me.'"

Then, she says one of the other men did the same thing.

"My gun was right under my lap the whole time," she says. "I drew it and pointed it at him. I told him, 'I'm not afraid to use it.'"

She says she was then able to speed off and call police.

Coumba also called Lyft to tell them what happened. She says the company initially apologized for the incident, but when she woke up for the next day, her driver's account was deactivated due to the company's 'no weapons' policy.

Supreme Court Overturns the 'Provocation Doctrine'

SCOTUS says that law enforcement officers are justified in protecting and defending themselves with lethal force in any given situation irrespective of how legitimately or illegitimately they may have arrived at said situation. In other words, the Supreme Court has ruled that this is a self-defense issue, not a Fourth Amendment issue.

Ed.: So armed government agents that illegally break into your home have self defense rights, but the innocent homeowner has no self-defense rights in his own home. SCOTUS says the Constitution allows this, so it looks like we need more robust federal and state-level self-defense laws, or a Constitutional amendment.

TX: Hayden murder case dismissed

The murder case against Courtney Hayden has been dismissed.

In 2015, she was convicted in the shooting death of Anthony Macias, but today, Judge Nanette Hasette granted Hayden's motion to dismiss the case, ruling that prosecutors intentionally suppressed evidence that might have changed the outcome of the trial. That evidence might have proven Hayden's claim that it was self defense.

She was originally granted a new trial after her defense attorneys learned about the evidence issue.

District Attorney Mark Gonzalez, who wasn't in office during Hayden's trial, says he probably won't appeal Judge Hasette's decision.

The prevailing thought on the gun control political left is that times have changed but technology has no reason to. That is, while a man had the right to defend himself using a single shot musket in 1791 against an attacker using a single shot musket, a man in 2017 using a five shot revolver has no right to defend himself against a perp with a 30 shot semiauto AR. Or a variant: the home owner with a 30-round AR has no right to use his repeating firearm against four attackers using a 10 shot semiauto pistol, a crowbar, a butcher knife, or a runaway truck. For the left, self-defense is unfair to begin with, and for all self-defense cases the left has a pat answer: The Founders Never Gave Americans the Right.

Justice Scalia did.

A short video of a man pulling a gun in a Mansfield park around other families, at first glance, makes him look like the aggressor. But police say it was the other way around.

Mansfield police say what is not seen before the alarming moment on Memorial Day is the man with the gun being attacked. They said as a gun owner with a license to carry, he was only defending himself.

The popular Rose Park was filled with plenty of kids in the playground area on Monday when a man pulled a gun in what police are calling self-defense.

WA: Under pressure from gun-rights group, Tacoma might drop its Taser ban

In Tacoma, private citizens can’t legally buy, sell, own, make or carry a stun gun like a Taser. That might soon change.

City attorney Bill Fosbre last week wrote a memo to the city manager and City Council recommending that such weapons be decriminalized, saying that having or using them for self-defense is likely protected by the U.S. Constitution. A vote on a proposed repeal could come in June.

A gun-rights advocacy group prodded the city last month with a letter saying that Tacoma’s prohibition on Tasers and other stun guns violates the Second Amendment. The Firearms Policy Coalition threatened to sue if it wasn’t repealed.

The measure before Scott would effectively require a trial-before-a-trial whenever someone invokes self-defense, making prosecutors prove the suspect doesn’t deserve immunity.

Scott hasn’t revealed his intentions, but he’s a National Rifle Association supporter, and this is an NRA priority.

“If it passes in Florida, then they take that same legislation and they push it on the legislative floors across the country,” said McBath, whose 17-year-old son Jordan Davis was killed by Michael Dunn outside a Jacksonville convenience store in 2012.

We are over 100 days into the Trump administration, and there have been record numbers of gun sales as citizens are empowered by new leadership to embrace their Second Amendment rights. In April alone, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), the system gun retailers use to verify if a potential buyer can legally buy a gun, ran a whopping 2,045,564 background checks, showing there is renewed support for a strong Second Amendment after 8 years of anti-gun policies. And at the U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) our membership numbers continue to rise because the right to self-defense is one of our most fundamental beliefs as Americans.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court yet again took no action on a potential landmark gun-rights case from California and the Ninth Circuit. But when it does act, there will surely be attention paid to how an acceptance or denial of the case with affect the Second Amendment's future.

The case of Peruta v. California has been on the Court’s private conference list four times. At least four Justices must agree to accept an appeal, which in this instance is from a group of people from San Diego seeking to carry concealed weapons in public, in opposition to a decision from that county’s sheriff restricting that right.

Neither Mendez nor Scott did anything wrong. They were both absolutely within their constitutional rights to pick up a weapon in response to the unidentified persons attempting to enter their homes. Yet Mendez, and Scott’s heirs, have so far lost in court, unable to collect any meaningful compensation from the police officers who shot them precisely because they exercised those rights.

Fifty women from across the United States will gather in Washington, D.C., next month to lobby Congress in favor of gun rights.

The DC Project, a pro-gun nonpartisan initiative, will bring together women from each of the 50 states during the week of June 12 in an effort to advocate pro-gun policies. "The Second Amendment is part of the United States Constitution and does not belong to one party," Dianna Muller, founder of the project, said in a statement. "Female gun owners are diverse, and have individualized stories and accounts of why this Amendment is so important to them. These stories need to be shared as they are representative of many within legislators’ constituencies."

“While I’m fairly sure I know what they hope to accomplish — career advancement and research funding from wealthy liberals like Michael Bloomberg — I’m not sure that they’re prepared for other experts to analyze their data and draw their own conclusions,” he said in a May 25 article for DRGO.

He continued, “While such a database, constructed impartially, could be very useful, the authors reveal their strong anti-Second Amendment bias. They have salted the article with a few facts, but they have also included several misleading statements as well as blatant lies, presumably to broaden its appeal.”

Organizers of a discussion about gun laws and safety canceled their Stowe event, just one day before it was scheduled, out of concern over armed protesters.

That concern, however, may have been baseless. Gun owners and Second Amendment activists have denied plans to bring guns to the event, and organizers have offered no proof of such a protest.

The event, sponsored by Stowe Democrats, was to be held Wednesday evening at the Stowe Free Library.

Ed.: Apparently all it takes to stop anti-gunners in VT is to suggest the possibility that they may be exposed to different viewpoints.

The new state law that gives colleges and universities the option to allow concealed weapons on their campuses hasn’t caused many Ohio schools to change their policies. Most still ban firearms.

But an advocate for gun rights says such change comes incrementally, and he is asking a court to strike down Ohio State University policies that he says limit possession of handguns even in locked vehicles.

The lawsuit was filed in November in Marion County by Mike Newbern, an OSU main-campus student and a former instructor at the Marion campus, along with two gun-rights groups. Newbern, who has a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and plans to take graduate classes at the Marion campus in the fall, holds a concealed-carry license.

Legislators in the Ohio House of Representatives have proposed a bill that would allow a person to shoot an attacker in self-defense without having to first attempt a retreat, according to WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio.

Republicans Rep. Terry Johnson, and Rep. Sarah Latourette, introduced House Bill 228 on May 16. HB228 is a 56-page bill that would eliminate the requirement for a citizen to retreat before using a firearm in defense of themselves, others, or property.

Saelee's attorneys argue this is a fair outcome. "He was acting in self-defense against a hate crime assault," San Francisco Assistant Public Defender Vilaska Nguyen said.

Nguyen is referring to the defense's case, which alleges that Saelee was running from several men Pessah's group after Pessah accused him of groping his date. According to an April statement from the Public Defender's Office following Saelee's no-conviction trial, "Two men in the group chased Saelee back to his car where they cornered him, hurling threats and anti-Asian slurs" and Saelee then brandished a weapon, for which he had a concealed carry permit, "hoping to scare the men away." Only after this did he fire "into the air," not intending to hit Pessah.

As even many non-shooters know, Smith & Wesson has been producing some of the finest DA revolvers on the planet for a long time. Some of the greatest models ever distributed were designed and manufactured by the Massachusetts-based firm, such as the great triple-lock revolver, introduced in 1908. Subsequently, Smith & Wesson has continued to design and produce fabulous revolvers, and nothing has changed today. One Smith & Wesson success story in the double-action revolver line has been the L-frame series of handguns, like the Smith & Wesson Model 986. Originally designed for the .357 Mag. cartridge, L-frames have been a popular firearms for sporting, law-enforcement and self-defense.

The deadline to pass bills from their house of origin is this Friday, June 2. Yesterday, May 30, the Senate passed anti-gun bill, Senate Bill 497, which extends California’s one-handgun-a-month limitation to all guns, by a vote of 25 – 13. It is obvious this legislation is another attempt to place more barriers on those exercising their rights and does nothing to address the criminal misuse of firearms or firearm trafficking. Criminals who generally acquire their firearms through illicit means will continue to ignore California’s stringent laws including limitations on the number of firearms that can be acquired within a 30 day time period. SB 497 will now move to the state Assembly.
