Our investigation into the impact of that new law found sheriffs across the mountains with mixed reactions and gun stores with growing sales.
That same process is all it takes to buy any other type of gun, including all long guns and automatic guns as well, since there is no assault weapons ban in North Carolina, and also no bans on ammunition. |

In what could be called a sales pitch to national gun manufacturers, two Ohio Republicans are pushing legislation to make the state a better place to build their firearms.
"I went to SHOT show and got a chance to talk to gun manufacturer CEOs," Rep. Al Cutrona, R-Canfield, said. "They indicated that they are looking for different states. States that are more gun friendly. States that make more sense from a business standpoint, and I want Ohio to be on top of the curve."
That's one reason why he and Sen. Tim Schaffer, R-Lancaster, have introduced bills in both the state House and Senate that would give manufacturers tax incentives to reduce their tax bill here and offset some of the federal taxes they pay. |

The gun rights group says that their lawsuit comes following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen, which struck down certain licensing conditions in New York State and elsewhere, including Massachusetts.
According to the high court, states must fashion gun laws that are in keeping with the history and tradition of the Second Amendment. Brown says Bruen should also lead to the end of Romney’s ban on magazines that carry more than 10 rounds and some popular rifle styles. |

Attorneys for Second Amendment advocates fighting New Jersey’s new gun law are urging a federal appeals court to uphold a recent ruling blocking most of the law from taking effect.
State attorneys failed to prove anyone would be irreparably harmed by U.S. District Court Judge Renée Marie Bumb’s order earlier this month affirming people’s right to carry guns in many places state lawmakers banned them, the lawyers wrote in two briefs filed Tuesday in response to the state attorney general’s appeal of Bumb’s order.
Attorneys representing New Jersey gun owners Ronald Koons and Aaron Siegel filed separate challenges the day Gov. Phil Murphy signed the law in December. The cases were later consolidated. |

Amid a mounting debate in America over the constitutionality of gun control, Cardinal Joseph Tobin of Newark has entered the fray with a different argument: That people should voluntarily forgo their Second Amendment rights for the betterment of society.
“I honestly believe it is the best thing we can do to change the culture of violence that threatens us today,” Tobin said.
“Let’s voluntarily set aside our rights in order to witness the truth that only peace and never violence, is the way to build a free society that is lived concretely in our homes, our neighborhoods, our communities, our nation and our world,” he said. |

When it comes to the evolution of handguns, it seems that size and weight are perhaps the key factors. Case in point: When U.S. Army Ordnance officials began talking to Colt shortly after World War II about a new variant of its battle-proven Government Model 1911, the die was cast. The Hartford manufacturer responded to the request by the early 1950s. The latest addition to the Colt stable sported a slide that was three-quarters of an inch shorter, housed a 4.25-inch barrel and was chambered in 9 mm instead of the tried-and-true .45 ACP. As an alternative to steel, the frame was constructed from a new, lightweight aluminum alloy. |

Every time Democrats unveil a new gun control proposal, their message is the same: their bill, if enacted, will save lives. Actually the exact opposite is true.
States have recently rushed to pass new laws in response to a decision the U.S. Supreme Court made last year in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association vs. Bruen.
It held that the Second Amendment prohibits government requiring applicants to prove a "special need" in order to be issued a concealed carry permit. |

“The Second Amendment Allows a Ban on the AR-15,” Harvard University Professor of Law Noah Feldman declares in a Bloomberg/Washington Post “opinion” piece.
That it’s an “opinion” is the one truthful admission in this otherwise absurd act of academic gaslighting. Harvard, Bloomberg, and WaPo are all for eviscerating the right of the people to keep and bear arms and routinely spread whatever lies they can get away with (despite the disingenuous caveat that “This column does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the editorial board or Bloomberg LP and its owners.”) |

Hunter Biden could soon find himself in a surprising position: at the cutting edge of the fight to strengthen the Second Amendment.
The president’s son is the target of a Justice Department investigation scrutinizing his purchase of a gun in 2018 — a time when he has said he was regularly using crack cocaine. Federal law bans drug users from owning guns.
But the constitutionality of that law — like many other provisions restricting gun ownership — is newly in question after a precedent-rocking decision the Supreme Court handed down almost a year ago. |

A lawyer for a Texas man urged the Supreme Court late Tuesday to let stand a lower court opinion that critics say will make it easier for domestic abusers to obtain firearms.
The man, Zackey Rahimi, is at the center of the latest Second Amendment case to reach the high court. A federal appeals court ruled in Rahimi’s favor in March. The court held that a federal law that bars an individual subject to a domestic violence restraining order from possessing a firearm is unconstitutional.
Now, the Biden administration is asking the Supreme Court to reverse that decision and clarify the reach of a major Second Amendment opinion from last term that marked the most significant expansion of gun rights in a decade. |

I propose we set aside another national holiday on May 1 to recognize the unsung heroes of our Constitution, to pause and give thanks to all of our children who have made the ultimate sacrifice in our schools, churches, playgrounds and streets for our Second Amendment, for our right to dress up and play soldier at home whenever we want.
God bless America’s children who die every day for our right to keep and bear military weapons in our homes. |

In the meantime, the federal bench trial — no jury — starts next week in Portland and will be heard by U.S. District Court Judge Karin Immergut, a Trump appointee. The federal trial, which is slated to run for five days, will result in a first ruling about whether the new law is legal under the U.S. Constitution. No matter what Immergut decides, the ruling will likely be appealed, possibly all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court. |

The ATF can’t arrest Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) members for owning pistol-brace-equipped guns, according to a federal judge.
District Court Judge Jane J. Boyle explained on Wednesday that her order enjoining enforcement of the brace ban does include SAF members as part of the named plaintiffs in the case. She granted the gun group’s request to clarify her original injunction order. She agreed with SAF that the injunction wouldn’t be effective if it didn’t extend to the group’s members.
Ed.: The injunctions flowed rapidly last night: SAF, FPC, GOA, & employees of the State of Texas are now covered by injunctions. |

Cheshire resident David Nastri is a veteran, a financial advisor, an attorney, an active hiker, and a gun owner.
He says he wants to be in compliance with the law when he brings his weapon for self-defense to one of Connecticut’s 139 state parks and forests, just as hunters are permitted to carry lawful weapons “up to .22 caliber rimfire” during regulated hunting season. In January, Nastri filed suit in federal court, arguing that the DEEP (Department of Energy & Environmental Protection) statute that bans firearms from state parks, even legal weapons possessed for the purpose of self-defense, is violating his Second and 14th Amendment rights. |

I am also a law-abiding gun owner and I believe the Second Amendment is our last and final line for self-defense. I don’t want our emotional reaction to this and similar tragedies to prompt passage of knee-jerk legislation that strips us further of our rights. Or, as is the case with Gov. Bill Lee’s proposed mental health protection order, leaves those in need of help more vulnerable and more likely alone.
Lee recently announced a special legislative session to convene in August in hopes of passing an extreme risk protection order, sometimes called a "red flag" law in other states. As Tennesseans, we cannot let this happen. The order of protection is being marketed as common sense and, on first glance, it may appear that way. |

Ohioans who own guns with pistol braces have a decision to make: Register their braced guns with the federal government, detach and destroy the devices, relinquish them to authorities, or risk federal firearms charges starting Thursday.
That's when a set of new rules from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives go into effect.
"You literally have millions of people (nationwide), who starting June 1, are going to be federal felons, and they have no clue," said Eric Delbert, co-owner of L.E.P.D. Firearms Range in Columbus.
Ed.: The rule does not apply to members of SAF, FPC, GOA, and employees of the State of Texas--those groups are protected by court injunctions. |

In this interview, Charles C.W. Cooke, a contributor to America’s 1st Freedom and a senior writer with National Review Online, takes on the rhetoric anti-Second Amendment activists (some of whom are politicians) throw about whenever a constitutional carry bill comes up in any state.
These activists claim there will be “Wild West shootouts” in the streets and more, but then, after constitutional carry passes—none of that ever happens. |

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer recently signed a red flag law aimed at keeping guns away from individuals that may pose a risk to themselves or others.
Whitmer has touted the move as commonsense gun violence prevention bills, establishing extreme risk protection orders in Michigan, ensuring police officers, health care professionals, and family members concerned about someone who may harm themselves or others can seek a court order to temporarily confiscate their firearms. It is expected to go into effect in Spring 2024. |

Until recreational cannabis is federally legalized, marijuana users cannot legally own or use guns. Minnesota House Representative Marion O’Neill recently pointed out some underlying challenges with the new Minnesota marijuana bill.
“There are cases going through the federal courts right now about whether or not it is unconstitutional, to remove someone’s second amendment rights, because they’ve been found in possession of marijuana” said O’Neill.
The bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives clarifies that regardless of the recent Minnesota law, someone who is currently using marijuana is still federally defined as an “unlawful user” of a controlled substance. |
