[CNN's] Dobbs: "[T]error is not the enemy. It is what the enemy wants to achieve.... The enemies in this war are radical Islamists.... That's why we are abandoning the phrase, "War Against Terror".... It is a war against Islamists and all who support them. If ever there were a time for clarity, it is now...."

- A blow to fuzzy-headed, morally-relative political correctness is a blow that helps gun owners. Lou Dobbs has struck such a blow. Let's let CNN know we support him.

"The word I get from Sacramento is that we are not hitting them nearly hard enough on SB-682 and AB-496. These two bills can easily stop ALL GUN SALES in CA by holding the manufacturers legally responsible for the actions of CRIMINALS! THESE BILLS CAN COME UP FOR A VOTE AS EARLY AS NEXT WEEK. FAX AND CALL YOUR REPS NOW AND GET YOUR FRIENDS ON BOARD TOO."

"No jurisdiction in the United States works as doggedly to disarm citizens as does the District of Columbia, our nation's capital and on-again, off-again murder capital."

"Sure, the city council grudgingly legalized pepper spray in 1993 (provided, of course, that it's properly registered). But that brief concession to self-defense hasn't led to any revision of the district's gun laws, which are still among the most restrictive in America."

"All that may be about to change."

"The Declaration of Independence and the Second Amendment share something in common; they both have preambles. The Second Amendment is the only amendment enumerated in the Bill of Rights that contains a stated purpose, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State..." This is a preamble, an introduction, a preface, a whereas,--not a therefore."

"History teacher Alfred Hamel and four other teachers from South High Community School did their homework over the weekend: shooting handguns, rifles and semiautomatic weapons."

“I had a great time,” Mr. Hamel said. “The subject of guns does come up a lot in school. With kids, sometimes they don't have any respect for you unless you've experienced what you're talking about.”

An Open Letter to All Favoring Gun Restrictions

"I'm writing to those who call for new laws restricting the use of guns in an effort to help you understand the positions of those of us who oppose such laws and advocate the ownership of guns for self-defense. On Tuesday, February 29, a first-grader used a gun to kill a classmate in Michigan. The very next day, on Wednesday, March 1, a man near Pittsburgh killed two and wounded three more in a racially motivated murder spree. And yet, while I mourn these deaths as horrible tragedies, I am more resolved than ever that my position on firearms is the correct one. You must be wondering what is going on with my thinking. I'm happy to tell you."

"It was an honest mistake. What seemed to be a crazed man firing a gun at officers turned out to be a frustrated motorist banging on the hood of his broken-down truck."

"Ronald Cobbley, 37, was on his way home around 3 p.m. Friday when his temperamental blue pickup stalled. Irritated, Cobbley jumped out and began to curse and beat his fists on the hood."

"At the same time, Nederland police received a call about a man yelling in the street and quickly responded to the area."

"There is hardly any part of our lives that isn't touched by government lies. In fact, our very liberty has been taken through lie after lie. And the vote has meant absolutely nothing in stopping the advance of government tyranny over the people of this country."

"If it isn't the federal government removing or diminishing rights, it is the State governments."

"If it isn't the State governments, then it is the political subdivisions, including county and city governments."

"All these levels of government have apparently been led to believe they have plenary control over the people when the fact is they do not. They have no lawful authority whatsoever."

"Our poor, poor judges. They don't like the fact that the Legislature passed, and Gov. Mike Leavitt signed into law, that courts must provide security lockers for firearms for those have concealed weapons permits and carry their weapons legally. What a tear jerker."

"If I went before a judge because I broke the law and said I didn't think I should have to obey it because I didn't agree with it, I'd be told: 'That's tough. It's the law and you'll obey it.' But this law directly affects judges, so their disobedience is OK . . . at least in their minds."

"The aviation security bill passed by Congress in November of last year authorized Undersecretary of Transportation for Security John Magaw to decide if commercial aircraft should carry guns to help thwart terrorist hijackings. On May 21st, Magaw revealed during a Senate Commerce Committee hearing that he opposes an armed-pilot policy. Instead, he contended, the task of thwarting hijackers should be left to federal air marshals."

"I too grew up in the 50’s & 60’s. My Mother would absolutely not allow a gun in the house. Well, all that changed when I got to be about 12. I forced an issue with my Mom and got a Daisy BB gun. I hit 16, and I got a 22 rifle. Single shot, bolt action. Little did I know how peeved I had made my Dad at my Mom. Christmas time, he got a mail-order bolt action Mauser from a Sear-Roebuck catalog."

In this case, the proposed legislation will specifically call out the gun industry, and only the gun industry, as being legally and financially responsible for the actions of criminals."

Well, we had heard they were anxious for a 2A case. Wishful thinking I guess.

"The Supreme Court said Monday it will not hear two cases that would have tested the Bush administration's newly articulated position that the Constitution protects an individual's right to own guns."

Without comment, the court turned down two men convicted of violating federal gun laws. The men had argued that the laws are unconstitutional because the Second Amendment gives Americans the right to "keep and bear arms."

They follow all that up with the obligatory appeal to safety on our streets and in our homes."
