Liberals would have voters believe that if the NRA, Republicans and veterans got together at a gun range with multiple firearms, all hell would break loose.

However, last Saturday saw all three come together for a peaceful and successful event that promoted community and activism in the months leading up to the presidential election.

Hillary Clinton has no problem calling abortion a “constitutional right,” but when it comes to the Second Amendment, she has refused to take a position.

On Friday, Clinton thanked Planned Parenthood for providing abortions when she said that it was a “constitutional right” for women to get an abortion.

However, last Sunday, Clinton refused to say whether or not the right to bear arms was a constitutional right.

Does the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution allow citizens to carry concealed weapons in public?

How about the open carry of firearms?

Most gun advocates would say yes. Here in the Four States area we feel confident in saying, generally speaking, most would say yes. But there are those who say that's not the case and that states can put significant limitations on such practices.

Several N.C. House Republicans are proposing a constitutional amendment that would end the state’s permitting requirements for people who want to carry a concealed weapon.

Rep. Larry Pittman, a Concord Republican, filed the “Gun Rights Amendment” on Thursday. If Pittman’s bill passes, voters would be asked in the November election if they support a constitutional ban on concealed weapon permit regulations.

Pittman’s plan would leave the concealed carry permit process in place for anyone who needs a permit while traveling in other states.

The Second Amendment intended to guarantee a rural society, which had been subjected to tyranny in the Revolutionary War, that citizens would have the ability to resist such tyranny with the force of arms. Some inkling of that intent can be drawn from the word “militia” found in the amendment.

The NRA has perverted the Second Amendment’s intent and has to take some of the blame for turning our present-day urban society into a shooting gallery where senseless gun violence is a daily event.

The ruling caused many to wonder if the rights of gun owners in Arkansas would be impacted in the future.

“We don’t have anything to worry about with our concealed carry laws in Arkansas,” said Charlie Collins, state representative from Fayetteville.

Collins said Thursday’s federal ruling in California should not carry any weight in the future here in the Natural State.

“I think what this does is really highlight the difference between what people in California feel about gun owner rights, and how we think about them here in Arkansas,” Collins said.

Petraeus’ new group is called the Veterans Coalition for Common Sense, and it’s attracting support from other former military leaders, namely former CIA Director Michael Hayden and retired Adm. Thad Allen. There are 23 veterans in total on the advisory committee. The goal of the group is to push legislation that mandates stronger background checks for gun purchases, though Mark Prentice, communications director for Americans for Responsible Solutions, affirmed the importance of the Second Amendment.

When an anti-gun demonstration targeting an Arlington Heights gun shop on Friday prompted the owner to keep his business shuttered, protester Lee Goodman was delighted.

"I wish they'd not open for business every day of the week, because that would be the responsible thing to do," said Goodman, a Northbrook resident and one of several protesters with the organization Peaceful Communities, which staged a demonstration Friday on the sidewalk adjacent to Phil's Village Sports Center on Central Road.

A judge reinstated a pistol permit for a woman and ordered that she be given back the weapons taken away from her after state officials reported she had been involuntarily committed to a hospital for a mental illness.

Yates County Court Judge W. Patrick Falvey said it was clear from medical records that Donna McKay voluntarily checked herself into a hospital in Penn Yan in April 2015 while suffering from an anxiety attack, possibly triggered by cold medicine containing codeine. She was assigned to the psychiatric floor of the hospital during her brief stay.

Friday, June 3, was the deadline date for all bills to pass out of their house of origin. Those bills that did not pass are defeated for the 2016 legislative session.

Unfortunately, as reported, a number of anti-gun bills have passed both the Senate and Assembly prior to the deadline. A number of these bills are continuing to move and have been scheduled for hearings in the Public Safety Committees on June 14th at 9 am. This is not a joint hearing but occurring simultaneously. It’s important to contact the members of this committee, including the bill sponsor, to express your opposition.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy signed a bill into law Thursday that requires subjects of temporary restraining orders to surrender their firearms until a hearing before a judge.

The law, which takes effect Oct. 1, requires that anyone who is the subject of a temporary restraining order relinquish all firearms and ammunition to police within 24 hours of receiving notice of the order.

When a person applies for a restraining order, a judge can decide to impose a temporary restraining order preliminarily based on information provided in a sworn application.

A federal appeals court ruling on concealed weapons laws has given Americans another reminder of what’s at stake in November’s presidential election.

By a 7-4 vote, the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco upheld a century-old California law that requires gun owners to get a permit from local law enforcement to carry their concealed weapons in public.

The ruling overturned a 2014 lower-court opinion and contradicts a 2012 appeals court ruling against a similar law in Illinois.

We know Trump will support the Second Amendment. That isn’t bombast. Trump has released a list of candidates. Let’s consider those candidates’ records.

We begin with Allison Eid, a Colorado State Supreme Court Justice, who issued the opinion in Regents of the Univ. of Colo. vs. Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, LLC., 2012 CO 17; 271 P.3d 496; 2012 Colo. LEXIS 114; 2012 WL 691538.

Last week I mentioned the Illinois General Assembly adjourned to “the call of the chair”, which is true not only for the Speaker of the House, but also for the President of the Senate. Last week I only mentioned the Speaker of the House. In any case, session is scheduled every Wednesday, although they cancelled yesterday.

Right now, we are preparing for the 14th Annual NRA Day at the ISRA Range, held on Saturday, June 18th at 10:00 a.m. It takes about 350 to 400 volunteers to put on this great event. If you haven’t previously attended NRA Day at the ISRA Range, you should. While you’re at it, don’t forget to bring your friends and/or your family with you.

Former retail executive Bonnie Schaefer, a member of the Democratic National Committee’s 15-person platform committee, thinks the 2nd Amendment ought to be abolished outright.

According to the progressive, it isn’t enough for the Democratic Party to push policies aimed at keeping firearms away from criminals and the mentally ill— she wants a total firearm ban in the United States.

Why? Well, it’s her personal belief that nothing good ever happens when a firearm is around.

Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims released a video statement to clarify this week’s decision by the courts will have no effect on how she grants permits.

“In Fresno County, ‘good cause’ is self-protection,” said Mims, who accepts a desire for self-defense as cause enough to want a permit. “And that should be the standard, in my opinion, across the state.”

Studies show that of the 70,000 or so concealed carry permits that were active last year, Fresno County had the most issued with over 7,647. Contrast this with San Fransisco County, which had 1 (one) issued by the sheriff in that jurisdiction.

"Good cause can vary from a southern California county and a northern California county," said Sheriff Tom Bosenko of the Shasta County Sheriff's Office. "I am very pro Second Amendment and pro CCW."

Bosenko added the new ruling will most likely not affect those in Shasta County.

The requirements on the application now are: you must be 21 years of age or older, you must be a permanent resident of Shasta County, and you must bring the specific firearm to the sheriff's office for approval.

We can’t defend the Second Amendment when they are not allowing us to exercise the 1st Amendment!

The California State Assembly and the Attorney General, however, are trying to silence us every step of the way. There is actually a law that allows them to do so!

But we WON a preliminary injunction against them in Federal Court yesterday!

Political speech, especially in support of the Second Amendment, should never be squashed by elitist politicians who want to shut us down.

According to Jeff Folloder, the executive director for the National Firearms Act Trade and Collectors Association (NFATCA), New York Times op-ed author Alan Berlow took Folloder’s quotes out of context to give the impression that Folloder agreed with certain gun control measures.

“The primary issue is that Berlow’s selective editing gave the impression that I/we support gun registration,” Folloder told The Federalist via e-mail. “We don’t.”
