"You cannot appreciate how low-caliber the anti-gun rationalizations echoed by Big Media are until you read LaPierre's rebuttals. He gives you ammunition to shoot down every excuse for implementing gun prohibition. He spoke with me last week about preserving what's left of your Second Amendment rights."
" 'The essence of the United States of America is freedom and the Bill of Rights,' LaPierre says. 'We must be unflinching in protecting those great freedoms or we will lose them. If you look at history, whenever someone says he will make you more secure -- if you are willing to be less free -- you never are more secure, only less free.' " |

"Reports coming out of the G8 Summit say Chirac favors the tax on individual purchases because he doesn't want to tax firearms manufacturers (some of which are French) and because the bulk of the money thus raised would come from 'wealthy' U.S. citizens who are, after all, about the only individuals around who have a legal right to buy guns. It would, of course, be administered by the United Nations."
"This new scheme seems very attractive to Chirac and would allow the U.N. to further both its desire to ban the purchase and ownership of arms and find a way to impose an international tax that would allow member nations to get directly into the pockets of the people of this country. What an idea."
"I dug my old 'get the U.S. out of the U.N.' bumper strips out of a box in the garage some time ago and I'm ready to put one on my car. This is an organization that should meet in Paris, where its friends reside and where the heads of member states not welcome here can go to sip chardonnay with Chirac while their people starve." |

"The 16th annual Syracuse Summer Biathlon combined rifle marksmanship with running. Each break from running required the competitor to shoot five rounds from a .22-caliber rifle at a target located 50 meters away. The first five rounds were fired in a prone position, and the second set of five rounds in a standing position. For every target that we hit, our 5K race was reduced by 100 meters. A perfect score would make it a 4K race." |

In some jurisdictions, such as New York City, taxes have led to the tripling of cigarette prices, not to mention the creation of black markets. I'm wondering whether my fellow Americans would like the food Nazi campaign to produce the same outcome." ... |

"Surely no one wants criminals to get guns. But few criminals participate in church fundraisers or pass background checks and the evidence is that with over two million defensive guns uses each year, guns are used at least four times more frequently to stop crime than they are used to commit crime. The most vulnerable in our society, those are weaker physically such as women and the elderly as well as poor people (particularly blacks) who are most likely the victims of violent crime, benefit the most from owning guns. Police are extremely important in stopping (my own research indicates that they are the single most important factor), but they understand that they can't be everywhere all the time and that they almost always arrive on the scene after the crime has been committed. The Catholic Church clearly recognizes the right of self defense, and telling people to behave passively also turns out not to be very safe advice." |

"Our glorious, dead-letter Constitution states that the 'right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.' Is the definition of 'uninfringed' equal to 'up to 20,000 laws, but no more than?' I know this will infuriate the nanny-statist heathens in Washington, DC, but 'not infringed' means if you're tall enough to put your money on the counter, you can have a gun. That also means convicted felons can and should be able to own firearms." |

"I think people have a pretty good idea of the problems that happen with guns. In 2001, according to government survey evidence, there were about 450,000 crimes that were committed with guns. Of those, there were about 8,000 gun murders. But few probably realize that our best estimates indicate that last year Americans also used guns defensively, a little bit over 2 million times a year. Ninety-five percent or so of the time, simply brandishing a gun was sufficient to stop an attack." |
