"...the hard core of American civil liberties—your right to speak your mind, especially to dissent from government policy, without looking over your shoulder—still seems pretty robust. Counterexamples exist, but they are pretty rare and mild."

"This does not mean there's nothing to worry about. Incipience is legitimately scary. To return to the original question, Americans are not so innately freedom-loving that we would never let it dribble away without noticing." ...

"Yesterday, at a protest in conjunction with Greens and Independents, I learned that politicians don't like to sign their name on things, even if they supposedly whole-heartedly agree with them. See, they might have to change their minds in the future, and this written form of standing by beliefs tends to bite you in the back when your beliefs have to change, as frequently happens with our elected Representatives in Raleigh, apparently."

"If those who back the United Nations were to bring an armed military attack on any U.S. border, they know that most Americans from 16 to 60 and older, would rush to repel the invaders, (as long as we haven't already fallen victim to U.N. instigated gun control)."

"If you and I can figure out which cultures, people and religions pose a danger to us, then our government has figured it out too. So when we are told that a completely random search of all 280 million Americans is an effective way of catching the bad guys, it means they really have no intention of actually catching the bad guys."

"So just as it is with almost every aspect of our government these days, the Homeland Security Agency is not quite what it appears to be."

"HB 102, by Anchorage Representative Eric Croft, adopts the so-called 'Vermont Carry' position on carrying concealed weapons. Unlike every other state, Vermont never enacted laws to make it illegal to carry a concealed weapon. Under the bill, Alaska law is changed to allow anyone who may legally carry a firearm to also carry it concealed without having to obtain a special permit. The possession of a firearm at courthouses, school yards, bars and domestic violence shelters will continue to be prohibited. And Alaskans may still obtain a concealed carry permit, if they want reciprocity with other states or want to continue to be exempt from background checks when purchasing firearms."

"A bill that would have placed a 10-cent a round tax on ammunition and reloading components, AB 992, was placed in the 'inactive file' by its author Mark Ridley-Thomas (D-Los Angeles) late last week. This indicates the bill is likely dead for this year because it did not have the necessary votes for passage. By placing it in the inactive file, it technically become a two-year bill and we'll likely have to deal with it again next year."

"Less than 20 of those criminals, however, were arrested and prosecuted for the additional felony of attempting to buy an illegal gun. This means that failure to enforce existing laws has kept at least 199,980 gun-seeking criminals on the street."

-------
Remember, these are gun-seeking criminals who will get their guns via illegal means, if they can't purchase them legally at a store. Laws have never stopped criminals from accessing firearms. See: Law of Supply and Demand

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Many politicians are in the habit of laying it down as a self-evident proposition, that no people ought to be free till they are fit to use their freedom. The maxim is worthy of the fool in the old story, who resolved not to go into the water till he had learned to swim. If men are to wait for liberty till they become wise and good in slavery, they may indeed wait forever. — LORD THOMAS MACAULAY
