Terror attacks in Europe are “the new normal” and they are almost certainly coming to the United States, according to Bill Bratton, former New York Police commissioner, the New York Post reported. So, perhaps militia groups like the one profiled in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Monday morning aren’t so foolish after all? According to the story, the Georgia Security Force militia group thinks it would be a mistake to become complacent simply because Donald Trump is in the White House. |

When I wrote my letter two weeks ago regarding the George Zimmerman trial I vowed not to get into a published game of 'last tag' on that topic. Such discussions rarely resolve anything or change someone's opinion. But I must break that vow now to respond to the letter from Sue Hannon, President of the Sussex County Chapter of the Brady Campaign, an avowed anti-gun group. I refer specifically to her statement: "Claims that guns are used defensively millions of times a year have also been widely discredited. It is rare when a gun is used in self-defense." |

Learning to shoot better groups is not about your skill and/or ability. Quite the contrary, your equipment is adequate for the goals you have set for yourself and your ability in practice is sufficient to win the matches on any given day. Rather, the difficulty stems from an inability to perform when the stakes are high or to use your equipment and proven performance in practice. What is an otherwise present and effective skill set seems to escape you every time you enter a event. During competition, you feel nervous, make stupid mistakes, get easily distracted and encounter a perpetual series of potential roadblocks that inevitably stand in the way of winning. |

Today marks one year since the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. It happened at the gay nightclub Pulse in Orlando, Florida where a man opened fire after declaring his allegiance to the Islamic State. Forty-nine people were killed and nearly 60 others injured. The Dallas LGBTQ community held a march for unity over the weekend, but organizers say there is still a long way to go especially with the local attacks that happened before and since the Orlando shooting. |

As I was sitting watching John Wick 2, I was reminded of a great scene from the first installment of these modern-day westerns. The moment after his dog is killed, his car is stolen and he snaps back in to his previous life of an assassin. What’s the first thing he does? He goes to his basement and sledgehammers his concrete floor, revealing a buried safe containing guns, gold and gear. |

The Mustardseed Truck Stop on Highway 167 in Sumner, Wash., wins little love: “filthy,” “disgusting,” “overpriced” are but a few of the many scathing reviews offered by truckers reluctantly paying $13 for a 12-hour break on its premises. It’s also a former crime scene, where, on March 8, 2016, 52-year-old Piotr Pietrzykowski was stabbed to death in his white cab. He was driving for Top Line Express, a company founded in 2011 in Schaumburg, Ill.

Since June 12, 2016, the hometown that I love, Orlando, has had to bear the unfortunate title of home to the Nation’s deadliest mass shooting. An Islamic State-inspired shooter went into a LGBTQ night club on “Latin Night” where people were gathering for what my bishop likes to call a late-night fellowship, and opened fire. |

A U.S. Navy littoral combat ship (LCS) was commissioned Saturday in honor of gun control proponent Gabby Giffords. Giffords is a former U.S. Congresswoman who has been pushing for background checks since being shot on January 8, 2011, by a man who passed a background check to acquire his gun. On March 4, 2015, Breitbart News reported Giffords’ position that every would-be gun owner should have to pass the same background check her attacker passed. |

Rape. It is an evil and destructive act that severely affects countless lives. It is also an extremely sensitive issue to discuss. Those who have been subjected to it are understandably very sensitive to what those who have not been subjected to it comprehend as normal, everyday language. To raise awareness of this issue, we must talk about it. However, we must be able to talk about it in a rational and civil way. |

The effort in Lansing to ease restrictions on carrying concealed weapons would mark a major change in state gun laws and be the latest in a string of victories for gun-rights advocates in Michigan in recent years. Last week, the Michigan House approved a series of controversial bills that would allow lawful gun owners to carry concealed weapons without a permit or state-mandated training. |

Jaleel Akeem Wulu, also known as “Trill Castro,” and Javaree Malique Williams have been sentenced for lying to a federal firearms licensee during the purchase of a firearm, and conspiracy to commit that offense. The conspiracy involved multiple illegal firearms purchases from several firearms dealers. Firearms trafficking continues to pose an ever-increasing risk to the safety and security of our communities,” said U.S. Attorney John A. Horn. “These two defendants made it possible for multiple firearms to be transferred out of Georgia into other states and ultimately into the hands of criminals, jeopardizing the safety of any number of citizens.” |

To us, it was just "The Office." But it was a mansion with a huge atrium, a pool, a waterfall, a koi pond, and a staff. We had women who cleaned, cooked, and did our laundry, and old men who maintained the grounds. The Office was in one of Tijuana's best neighborhoods, the equivalent of Beverly Hills, or Sutton Place in New York. Our neighbors were judges, politicians, businessmen, and old-money families that made their fortunes a hundred years ago in gold, oil, cattle, and crops.
