Police in Minnesota ruled the use of deadly force over the weekend against a road-raging idiot was justified self-defense. For 40 miles, William Haire — age: more than old enough to know better — reportedly drove like a lunatic, threatening a 30-year-old driver. What an enraged 61-year-old Floyd didn’t know was that the other driver had a carry license and his gun. |

California’s Gov. Gavin Newsom’s policy instincts match his hair gel. Both are applied liberally. Take his latest notion. He is proposing a 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. He’s not proposing to protect rights granted by our Creator, rather he’s looking to turn those rights into government-approved privileges.

Michigan is unlikely to become the 28th state with “constitutional carry” laws on its books, but that’s not stopping a small cohort of House Republicans from trying.
Introduced in the House Committee on Government Operation last week were House bills 4710 through 4715, which would allow those legally able to own a firearm the ability to conceal carry – a move that now requires an additional license under Michigan law.
“Right now, you can open carry without getting a concealed carry permit. You can put a gun on your hip and not have a jacket over it,” said Rep. Bryan Posthumus, R-Cannon Township and a sponsor of a bill within the package. |

For over a century, the North American hunting scene has been dominated by 30 caliber cartridges like the 30-06 Springfield, 300 Win Mag, 308 Winchester, and 300 WSM. Although the effectiveness of .308” diameter bullets has been well documented, many hunters are transitioning to smaller diameter bullets with less recoil and higher muzzle velocities. |

Over the weekend, Governor Greg Abbott (R) signed important legislation protecting the privacy rights of lawful firearms purchasers and strengthening the state firearms preemption law. Both measures will take effect on September 1, 2023:
House Bill 2837, by Rep. Matt Schaefer (R-Tyler), prohibits financial institutions and credit card companies from requiring licensed dealers to use a firearms-specific merchant category code (MCC) to categorize retail gun purchases, rather than using a general merchandise retailer code or a sporting goods retailer code. |

Visitors to the Michigan State Capitol will be scanned for weapons as soon as September, according to the Michigan State Capitol Commission. The commission has purchased “pass-through” firearm detectors to set up at building entrances, said commission executive director Rob Blackshaw during the Monday meeting. The group is also working on buying X-ray scanners for bags and metal detection wands for security guards, he said.
