... "Sgt. Corrigan’s family and friends were desperate to find him, but they were unable to do so because city bureaucrats had not entered his correct name or birth date into the system. ... Sgt. Corrigan protested, saying no one would be able to find him with the wrong name on his records, but he was assured that he could be found with his prison identification number. Not so, as this jail ID was associated with the wrong name and birth date."

"Ms. Lal said she was turned away from the prison four times as she frantically attempted to find him. 'I think this kind of thing would happen in India,' she said of the country of her birth. 'But not in a billion years would I think this would happen in the United States of America.'" ...

"One of the drills we often do at the range is to put up targets with colored or numbered sections and have one person call out a random target and everyone will draw and shoot that target. It's a great way to practice, but hard to do by yourself. That's where the Combat Focus Shooting iPhone app comes in. I tried this app recently and found it gives me another option for range practice." ...

"I suppose you could say that I’ve been a member of the gun culture my entire life. When I was in elementary school all I ever wanted to do was be outside 'playing Army' with my toy guns. At age eleven I was introduced to a Daisy BB gun by my maternal grandfather and the die was cast. ... We've had a 'gun culture' a lot longer than I’ve been alive, folks who passed their love of firearms down to their family members . . ."

"When I replaced the horrible 'Massachusetts trigger' on my Smith & Wesson M&P 40c with an Apex Duty/Carry Kit, the world changed. "Getting to Burlington, WY, Gunwerks HQ, is no easy task. I thought I was somewhat remote in Cody, WY, but 37 miles to the East; it gets a little more desolate. And I think that’s the way Aaron Davidson likes it. Before class kicked off, my class of 10 talked with him about how remote things are in Burlington. Aaron grew up here, his family is here, and this is what he knows. He told us that recruiting talent is hard, but that means that only the most committed make up the workforce of seventeen. A quick bit of trivia, Gunwerks is the largest private sector employer in Burlington. They would be the largest employer if it weren’t for that pesky school a quarter of a mile down the road . . ." ...

"Home alarm systems are tremendously useful in that they keep away opportunistic burglars. What they can’t stop, however, is an ingenious criminal who’s intent on breaking into your home, or even someone you know who wants to force their way in. "Generally, the Constitution only binds the government, not the private sector. For example, the First Amendment protects speech, and even insults, but that doesn’t mean you can’t kick someone out of your home or business for insulting you. But Missouri legislators have decided to turn gun owners into a protected class, citing the Second Amendment — which only applies against the government — as a reason to restrict private employer policies regarding firearms. ... "What’s clear from those is, the ability of this family to defend themselves—both in terms of seized assets meaning they have no resources, and court-ordered separate legal representation making a unified legal strategy expensive and difficult—has been tremendously complicated by the government. What’s also clear is they are being prosecuted by the same branch of government that won’t comply with subpoenas when its own role in allowing guns to fall into cartel hands is scrutinized.
