The attack at a gay nightclub in Orlando early on Sunday is reigniting the congressional debate over terrorism and the country’s gun laws. Now, South Dakota lawmakers are responding to one of the deadliest shootings in U.S. History. “We learn from these types of incidents,” said Sen. Mike Rounds. (R-SD) "We wish there wasn’t a loss of life, but we learn from them.” Sen. Rounds said impeding on second amendment rights is not the answer. Instead, we should be targeting ISIS.

The National Rifle Association has frequently argued if more people carried firearms, the country would be a lot safer. As the head of the NRA, Wayne LaPierre, famously stated, The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun. But this “good guy with a gun” argument is a complete and utter myth.

Fresh off the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, the Supreme Court will consider whether to hear a challenge to the assault weapons ban passed in Connecticut after the Newtown elementary school massacre of 2012. A petition from gun rights groups is on the high court's list for consideration at Thursday's private conference, but the justices are unlikely to take the case. Just last December — five days after a terrorist attack killed 14 people in San Bernardino, Calif. — they refused to hear a challenge to a Chicago suburb's ban on such semi-automatic weapons.

The big government socialists just suffered another face full of failure. The mass murder by a Democrat Muslim terrorist in Orlando shook them. The Socialists did what they always do. Their answer is always more government and less freedom. Big government is their solution no matter what the problem.

Don’t expect the Socialists to change.. until we vote them out of office.

When suspected gunman Omar Mateen shot more than 100 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando early Sunday morning, killing 49, he was armed with an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle. (Update: Law enforcement sources in Orlando now say the weapon was a Sig Sauer MCX, a semi-automatic rifle mechanically different from the AR-15, but with similar design features.) He purchased the gun last week, legally, despite his history of domestic violence and despite the suspicions of the FBI that he might have been recently radicalized. As much of the coverage has noted, this is the same type of weapon used in the 2012 massacres in Aurora and Newtown, as well as last year’s attacks at Umpqua Community College and on county employees in San Bernardino.

President Obama seemed to be addressing Congress when he said Tuesday afternoon that there are common sense steps "consistent with the Second Amendment" that could reduce gun violence. He then pointed to a specific proposal introduced and denied in Congress last year. The president's comments come on the heels of a remarkable moment in Congress. Several Democratic lawmakers walked out of the House chamber before representatives observed a moment of silence in honor of the Orlando victims.

A spokesman for the Cook County president’s office defended its ammunition tax increase in response to a report from Illinois Business Daily, taking particular issue with one gun rights group executive’s choice to compare the increase to a “modern-day poll tax.” “Most appalling, you compare the bullet tax to a poll tax,” Frank Shuftan, press secretary for the Cook County president said in an email to the Illinois Business Daily. “Poll taxes were historically designed to disenfranchise African-Americans from being able to vote, a stain on our history rooted in institutional racism and exclusion.”

The number of guns taken off local streets in 2016 could reach last year’s total of nearly 4,200, according to Memphis police. Illegal weapons contributed to some of this year’s 101 murders and put the lives of officers in danger seemingly every day. Many of those weapons are stolen from cars, and MPD Director Mike Rallings said it is the result of a state law that allows gun owners to keep weapons in a vehicle. “I want to sit down and have a conversation with them, with our other law enforcement partners, and talk about that,” Rallings told FOX13. “So yes, I want a change because I am not in support of guns in cars.”

At a debate Monday night in Chipley, deep in the Florida Panhandle, the Republican candidates for an open congressional seat said this weekend’s massacre at an Orlando nightclub hadn’t changed their minds about gun control. All four described themselves as conservative, pro-life Christians — and they agreed on most issues, including the worst mass shooting in American history. “That was caused by the acts of an evil person — and radical Islamic terrorists,” said Tallahassee attorney Mary Thomas, one of four GOP candidates seeking to replace outgoing U.S. Rep. In this, their 150th year in business, the history of Winchester firearms is well known. After all, “The gun that won the west” was a Winchester, the Model 1873. The Winchester Model 70 is known as the “Rifleman’s Rifle” and the Model 1894 is perhaps the most successful sporting rifle in history. The company also shook up the scattergun market with classic shotguns like the Model 1897, Model 21 and Model 12. The raw truth, however, is that none of these guns could have made their mark in history without ammo to shoot out of them. It’s kind of the red-headed stepchild in terms of glory and glamor, but Winchester has been in the ammo business as long as it has been in the gun business.
