"In the months following the U.S. Supreme Court's 2008 ruling in District of Columbia vs. Heller that the Second Amendment precludes outright bans on firearms, but does allow room for some regulation, gun prohibitionists altered their mantra, but not their ultimate goal of removing guns from private hands."

"The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, which should call itself the Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership, repeated ad nauseum that the high court's ruling allowed "reasonable regulation" of firearms. The problem facing America's gun owners is what a prohibitionist would define as reasonable is anything but." ...

... "We, all of us, come from hunter-gatherers. But we've 'evolved' beyond the need for such barbaric practices as hunting, or even eating meat and using any animal products, we are told--or perhaps the more appropriate term would be 'dictated to,' since the faction that breaks today's laws is working on bending all of us to their will with tomorrow's. That we're all a sustained natural/man-made grid failure away from rediscovering our roots is something the herbivores among us would rather not contemplate--it sours the cud." ...

"Large majorities of Americans feel that they should be allowed to have guns. At the same time, pluralities of Americans favor stricter control of guns, particularly hand guns, although this number has decreased significantly in the past few years."

"Large majorities of U.S. adults think that Americans should be allowed to have rifles or shotguns (80%) and hand-guns (74%). Fewer, but still substantial numbers, think that unconcealed (or 'open carry') weapons (50%) and concealed weapons (45%) should be allowed. ..." ...

"A Newsday editorial yesterday promoted passage of a bill in the New York State Senate that would have required firearms manufacturers to stamp identification information on the firing pin of every gun sold in the state." ...

"Newsday's support for this microstamping bill was misguided because the stamping technology does not work and can easily be defeated. Newsday called the microstamping process 'fingerprinting' firearms, but unlike fingerprints the markings imprinted onto the cartridge will change over time, due to wear, cleaning, corrosion, and normal use ..."

"I would like to address this letter to all Americans who believe in the Second Amendment, who might not be members of the National Rifle Association but who might ask themselves: 'What does the NRA do for me?'"

"They can thank the NRA for the Supreme Court's ruling against the District of Columbia's ban on handguns and armed self-defense in the home. They also can thank the NRA for helping the case before the court challenging Chicago’s ban and demanding that the Second Amendment apply to all state and local governments." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: Actually the NRA did everything they could to try and derail the Second Amendment Foundation and DC v. Heller. The NRA also had nothing to do with the McDonald case until the SAF had ushered it through to the Supreme Court, at which point the NRA hijacked a third of the SAF's argument time.

"As Chicago awaits a U.S. Supreme Court ruling this month that could overturn its 28-year-old handgun ban, City Hall is considering a host of countermeasures that might set off another round of legal fights with gun advocates."

"Will it really kill legal gun owners if we restrict them to one gun purchase a month? It may kill children if we don't."

"In some neighborhoods, it’s as easy to get your hands on a pistol as on a bag of Cheetos. We’re battling an epidemic of gun violence in this state, with 14-year-olds dying. We have to do something about gangs. But we also have to do something about guns." ...

"Legislation being considered on Beacon Hill would limit gun buys to one every 30 days, making it impossible for traffickers to buy in bulk in Massachusetts. It wouldn't solve all our gun problems — not even close — but it would certainly help limit the local supply line." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: Not that being restricted to a single purchase per month hampered the VA Tech shooter. And in Mass. in the last 9 years, there have been 20 children 14 and under murdered with a gun and 5 times that many (103) murdered without a gun. Maybe the guns arn't the issue here?

... "I am very pleased to see the Ohio Restaurant Association take a position regarding SB239, concealed carry in restaurants and bars. It is good know which organizations support my right to self-defense and which would deny the basic God-given rights and freedoms for law-abiding Ohioans."
