"I read the stories of Carol Bowne’s death and thought it could have been me. If I’d lived in New Jersey, that would have been me. The anger and frustration I feel over her death almost can’t be put into words because it strikes too close to home. Let me tell you what other domestic violence victims already know." ...

"TTAG’s been on the NRA’s butt for years, pleading with them to initiate minority outreach programs. Introduce them to guns, STAT. Because that’s where the battle for our gun rights will be won or lost. And right now, gun rights are losing. Big time. The latest research from Pew on Hispanic and African Americans’ views on gun control – and the role of government – is some scary, scary you-know-what. Check out the graphic above. "Supporters of the Second Amendment have much to be proud of in recent years, from Supreme Court victories such as Heller and McDonald, to the relaxation or elimination of various states’ restrictions on the right to carry and the defeat of federal gun control measures pushed during the emotionally-charged wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings. Moreover, violent crime rates, and gun crimes in particular, have enjoyed a long, steady decline while, at the same time, gun sales and deregulation have increased, providing empirical support for the 'more guns, less crime' theory. But this has not deterred the Obama administration from seeking more controls on law-abiding gun owners." ... |

... "Weapons like the AR-15 represent the leading edge of the gun debate. ... After the Sandy Hook school shooting, a new ban was introduced in Congress, and ... it raised an enduring question: What is their appeal to some gun owners?"
"The case against assault-weapon restrictions is familiar: Such guns are really no different from conventional rifles; they are useful for self-protection and hunting; and bans infringe on 2nd Amendment rights. But these arguments don't amount to an explanation for the guns' popularity (in fact the first point begs the question). If every last assault weapon disappeared tomorrow, thousands of other weapons would still be readily available for all of these purposes."

"In Muzzle Brake Shootouts Part 1 and Part 2, we were primarily testing recoil reduction performance. With something like 64 brakes and comps recoil tested, it was time to move onto muzzle flash. For this shootout we were able to gather 33 different muzzle devices — mostly dedicated flash hiders but also some hybrid units — and pit them against each other for flash suppression prowess. Not only did we capture photographs of each FH in action, but with the use of a trick light meter we were able to record actual brightness measurements and scored some real, objective data. . ." ... |

"I took a gamble and spent $399 on an AR-15 upper receiver to see if it’s worth the money to use M200 5.56x45mm blanks to hurl still-full-of-soda cans 105+ yards down range. My high hope was that it would induce Universal Giggles. Universal Giggles is a recreational device-driven term I came up with to describe experiences capable of instantaneously, spontaneously, and reliably reducing uninitiated grown men to giggling uncontrollably like little school girls after during a particular experience. Other devices and products in this category that are capable of inducing Universal Giggles include machine guns, and exploding rifle targets. Did the X Products Can Cannon deliver the Universal Giggles response? Oh yes, yes it did . . ." ... |

"The huffingtonpost.com’s take on guns is like Candide in reverse. When it comes to firearms, the anti-gun site’s writers live in the worst of all possible worlds. Every story on guns indicates a 'gun violence' epidemic. Every study proves that owning guns is like juggling vials of anthrax. So when I read John A. "Arkansas has pretty permissive gun laws. It does not require handgun owners to obtain licenses, does not ban so-called assault weapons, issues concealed-carry permits to anyone who meets a short list of objective criteria, accepts carry permits issued by other states and, since 2013, arguably allows people to openly carry handguns without a permit."
"Although Bill Clinton was the governor of Arkansas from 1983 to 1992, he and his wife, the Democratic Party's presumptive presidential nominee, prefer a decidedly more restrictive approach. On Sunday, the former president highlighted the couple's disdain for the right to armed self-defense by declaring that 'you can't have a bunch of people walking around with guns.' ..." ... |

"Firearms advocates challenged California’s principal gun-control law before a federal appeals court Tuesday, arguing for the right of any law-abiding adult to carry a concealed weapon in public."
"The Second Amendment, which guarantees the right to keep and bear arms, is not a 'home-bound right,' attorney Paul Clement told an 11-judge panel of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. "For anybody who loves their civil rights, the dismantling of unconstitutional gun control schemes across the United States has been a marvel to behold. Today, only a handful of states continue to substantively restrict the ability of law-abiding residents to carry concealed handguns."

"It feels a bit silly to write this, as what I’m going to say is so blatantly obvious, but unfortunately there seems to be a need to say this. The sheriff’s job is to enforce laws, not act as a judge as to whether the laws are constitutional — that’s what the judicial system is for. Having a law enforcement officer unilaterally declaring a law unconstitutional is blatantly unconstitutional in itself and is more akin to totalitarianism." ... |
