Less than a week after the massacre at a gay nightclub in Orlando, a group of open carry activists say they plan to bring guns to Cincinnati Pride.
In the days since Omar Mateen opened fire on the patrons of Pulse, President Barack Obama has given multiple addresses on the subject of gun violence in the United States, Senate Democrats have staged a filibuster for gun reform and members of the LGBTQ community have come together across the nation for vigils honoring Mateen's 49 victims. |

Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal reports a suspect in an alleged East Wenatchee burglary died of gunshot wounds after a confrontation with the burglary victim several hours later Wednesday night.
Upon returning to the victim’s home around 8 p.m., Gjesdal says the suspect shot at the victim, grazing him in the chest.
The suspect then followed the victim into the street, stabbing him several times in the thigh. The victim then shot the suspect numerous times, emptying his gun of bullets. |

A handgun carry permit class being offered free of charge at the Nashville Armory filled up so fast that slots were gone before the word fully got out it was an option.
A group of three businessmen decided that they would pay the cost of 30 slots in a handgun carry permit class at the Nashville Armory and then donate the spaces to members of the LGBTQ community who wanted to take the course.
The eight-hour course typically costs $95 per person. |

Senator Joe Manchin isn't sure the belief that one is innocent until proven guilty is always such a good idea. On Thursday, The West Virginia Democrat said the principle of due process is "killing us."

The signs have been there forever, and I’m not even counting dramatic Al-Qaeda type operations like 9/11. More recently, we’ve seen a series of smaller scale attacks right here at home. Fort Hood. Oklahoma. Garland, Texas. Chattanooga Recruiting Stations. San Bernardino. David French writes a compelling piece about this, and you can read it here.
Hold on to your shorts, because there’s a lot more attacks like this one on the way, and probably soon. They’ll have nothing to do with our gun laws. When someone out there is intent on killing, there are an infinite number of ways to do that. Just last night, an ISIS-inspired attacker killed a Paris police captain and his wife with a knife. Intent is the operative word, not availability. |

A clearer picture of what happened the night a Keizer teen stabbed his mother's boyfriend in self-defense has appeared, now that law enforcement has finished its investigation.
The 16-year-old boy was arrested by Keizer police in connection to the death of Jeffrey Holly, 45 on April 15. On April 18, the Marion County District Attorney's Office announced he would not be charged with a crime and he was released from jail. |

The incidence of firearm-related deaths varies considerably across the country. In Hawaii, the state with the fewest gun-related fatalities, there were just 2.7 gun deaths per 100,000 people in 2014. In Alaska, on the other hand, there were close to 20 gun-related deaths per 100,000 residents, the most of any state. 24/7 Wall St. reviewed the 10 states with the most gun violence based on the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which tracks the number of gun-related deaths in each state. Fatalities include homicides, suicides, and accidents. |

Following Wednesday's filibuster in the Senate led by Connecticut Democrat Chris Murphy, Republican leaders have agreed to hold votes on two pieces of legislation: expanded background checks and allowing the attorney general to prohibit gun sales to people on terrorism watch lists.
California Senator Dianne Feinstein introduced the ban on gun sales to suspected terrorists in December, following the mass shooting in San Bernardino. It failed 45-54.
In American culture, the Second Amendment means something different than what it means in court. |

First, the weapons used in all of the shootings by these mentally disturbed individuals were not automatic. They fired one shot with each pull of the trigger making them legal semi-auto weapons.
Second, the Second Amendment guarantee of our right to be armed has absolutely nothing to do with “hunting” of “self-defense” as you so passionately write about. Those activities are beneficial side effects of gun ownership, not the reason we are allowed to own them.
We the people were given the right to own guns - yes even military ones - to keep the federal government from becoming overly and overtly oppressive ever again. Fear the government that does not respect it’s citizens. |

Why is it that when a man motivated by a foreign ideology attacks a group of Americans, many of us ignore the perpetrator and attack each other instead?
It’s been more than a little sickening to see commentators, celebrities and politicians from our top national leadership on down (all of whom seem to lack an effective strategy for defeating jihadists, “homegrown” or otherwise) blame gun owners, traditional Christians, Republicans and conservatives in general because a U.S.-born son of immigrants from Afghanistan killed dozens and wounded many more in a vicious attack at a gay nightclub in Orlando. |

However, this flies in the face of some previous surveys, which found that the majority of millennials actually supported gun rights. According to a 2015 survey by the Pew Research Center, millennials opposed the ban on so-called “assault weapons” more than any other generation. Additionally, the 18 to 34 demographic also opposed restricting certain types of ammunition, and are less likely than older generations to support further restrictions on firearm sales. At the same time, young gun owners are one of the fastest rising demographics for firearm retailers, along with women. Experts attribute this to not just traditional draws like hunting or sport shooting, but also the increased attention on self-defense.

It is not unusual for gun sales to spike after a mass shooting, but in the wake of the Orlando, Fla., attacks, gun shops have begun to see a new demographic of customer: LGBT people.
The trend has long been recognized by analysts – after the Columbine attacks, after the Aurora theatre shooting, and this week, after the Orlando nightclub attacks, gun shops have seen a spike in sales.
The owner of the Gun Room in Denver told local news station KDVR that his shop had seen three or four times the usual traffic for this time of year in the past few days. |

Before we start, let's just get one thing straight: A renewal of the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban will not crumble under fire from the "lobbying" power of the NRA.
For sure, the National Rifle Association has a lot of political power—which is, of course, derived from its 4.5 million members and not from the gun industry, as the anti-gun movement would have you believe.
No. Any call to ban AR-15 rifles (what the left likes to incorrectly call "assault weapons") will likely fall flat on Capitol Hill simply because that firearm is by any objective measure the most popular long gun in the United States today, and has been since the original Assault Weapons Ban lapsed in 2004. |

The legislation at issue is the most common-sense kind of incremental regulation, far from the space of affecting legal gun ownership and focused directly on loopholes that help the flow of guns into hands that shouldn’t have them.
Who can argue, for instance, that individuals who make the no-fly list because of suspected ties to terrorism should maintain access to weapons?
Ed.: How about the ACLU, for starters. |

The “right of a member of the general public to carry a concealed firearm in public is not, and never has been, protected by the Second Amendment,” the en banc U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit held June 9 ( Peruta v. Cty. of San Diego, 2016 BL 183925, 9th Cir., en banc, No. 10-56971, 6/9/16 ).
The court looked at the right to bear arms in England as far back as 1299, as well as pre- and post-amendment history in America.

A nationwide gun club geared towards the LGBT community has reportedly seen its membership more than double following Sunday’s mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Pink Pistols, a 16-year-old organization that boasts dozens of chapters nationwide, went from having about 1,500 members Saturday to 3,500 Monday — an exponential increase that occurred in the immediate aftermath of the Sunday morning massacre that left 49 patrons of Pulse nightclub dead and dozens more injured, Denver’s Fox News affiliate reported Thursday. |

A mysterious poster campaign began making its way through West Hollywood on Wednesday morning; posters featuring a queered-up version of the Gadsden Flag, complete with a rattlesnake chillaxin’ on top of the Pride rainbow.
Featuring the hashtag #ShootBack, the poster is not-so subtly advocating for a harsher, more aggressive stance on gay self-defense.
As The Daily Wire reports, the posters have been seen all over the neighborhood, prominently displayed on storefronts for Pacific Design Center, The Abbey, and, improbably, West Hollywood City Hall. |

The weapon used in the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history was designed to meet U.S. military requirements for a small, quiet combat rifle for use in close quarters.
The Sig Sauer MCX semi-automatic rifle hit the market in 2015 after years of development by the Newington-based company, which markets it as an “innovative weapon system built around a battle-proven core.”
“The MCX was built from the ground up . . . to meet all the user benefits we needed to have for military, law enforcement,” Cory Newman, a Sig Sauer design engineer, says in a company promotional video.

It’s not exactly surprising that Democrats and the media have transformed an Islamic terror attack into another finger-wagging national conversation about Christian “homophobia” and the NRA. Gotta keep the focus on the real enemy, after all. What is surprising is how boldly illiberal many Democrats have become in trying to achieve their objectives.
It’s not just some Rolling Stone writer calling for gun confiscation or Vox calling on the president to discard the Constitution unilaterally; it’s West Virginia’s Joe Manchin openly arguing that due process is what’s really “killing us.” A senator, sworn to uphold the Constitution, actually said this. |

The AR-15 is often used for hunting, recreation, or self-defense. Jason Wagner of Frontier Justice says it’s always been a popular gun. Since the Orlando shooting, there’s been a spike in sales.
“Seen an increase in automatic rifles,” he said.
The AR-15 is a semi-automatic rifle. The A-R actually stands for ArmaLite, the company that started producing it. To get one, buyers have to fill out an ATF form.
“We take that information and run it through the FBI NIX background check and it offers three responses: proceed, denied, or delayed response,” he said. |
