"National Police chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar praised on Thursday a study of police corruption, saying it would help the police eradicate the crime."
"The study, conducted by Police Staff College (PTIK) students a few months ago, found corruption was widespread among the police, at every level." [empjasis added]
"'We will use the study as a starting point in our efforts to eradicate bribery and corruption within the institution. Our success will regain public trust in us,' Da'i said at the graduation of 350 PTIK students."
"Graduates were among those involved in the study, which was opposed by some high-ranking officers." -------

"Security in the domed Legislative Building in Olympia is no laughing matter."
"Actually it is a laughing matter, at least for state Rep. Hans Dunshee, who thinks plans for airport-style security in the state Capitol building are excessive, counterproductive and even silly. The plan, he says, will give the illusion of security, but not the reality. It will succeed only in making the public's house less accessible and more intimidating for the public." ...
"Toward the end of the legislative session, the security debate got even sillier. A rule adopted by the state to ban guns in the Legislative Building was challenged. Rather than fight for a rule that was probably illegal, the state has rescinded it."
"Now, anyone qualified to carry a gun or a rifle must be allowed to bring it into the building. An attempt late in the last session to make the building gun-free like schools, courthouses and airplanes failed because too many legislators were reluctant to take a gun-control vote in an election year." |

"A FAILED plot to kill alleged drug barons Carl Williams and his father George has drawn high-profile criminal lawyer George Defteros into Melbourne's gangland war, after the solicitor was charged yesterday with conspiracy and incitement to murder."
"Mr Defteros, who has represented a string of gangland identities including murdered standover man Alphonse Gangitano and Mick 'The Don' Gatto, was charged yesterday along with close associate Mario Condello, after the pair allegedly offered at least $300,000 to a hitman who turned police informer." -------
But guns are banned in Australia! How can there be all these murders and murder plots?!? The statists promised that if I gave up my rights I would be safe! |

"Here's a sign you don't often see in California these days: 'Hunters Wanted.' You're far more likely to see that invitation on the East Coast, where intractable wildlife imbalances have residents befuddled about how they might extract hordes of whitetail deer from rose gardens."
"In this state, a halcyon era when a hunter and his son could drive out to a farm, introduce themselves, then win permission to scout the acreage, recedes in memory. Actually, both parts of this scenario are waning: family elders able to initiate youth to the hunt, as well as that easy symbiosis between private landowners and sportsmen. Both lapses weaken an old tradition of wildlife management through controlled human predation." ... |

"Why does our Home Minister Shivraj Patil possess five guns? We cannot help but wonder what he expects to do with them."
"Yesterday when he revealed his assets in the candidate form for the Rajya Sabha, the affidavit stated he has a Czech pistol worth Rs 4,000, a sports rifle worth Rs 50,000, a pistol worth Rs 6,000 and two 12-Bore rifles worth Rs 1,200 each."
"The affidavit also states the guns were obtained by Patil about 10 to 20 years ago and the prices are stated after depreciation."
"Patil told Mid Day that he loves shooting. “As a National Cadet Corp, I won many shooting competitions,” he said." -------
According to his disclosure he also has 3 homes. Why not question that? |

"Ohio's new concealed carry law is flawed and should be fixed, says a group that fought to get the law passed."
"Ohioan for Concealed Carry, a pro-Second Amendment group, wants the Ohio General Assembly to remove a 'media access' provision in the law, which allows sheriffs to release the name, county and birthdate of concealed-carry license holders to journalists."
"The problem is, the Shelby County sheriff recently released the home addresses of 85 people licensed to carry concealed pistols in Ohio- an alleged breach of the law. Not only did Sheriff Kevin O'Leary release the home addresses -- but a local newspaper, the Sidney Daily News, printed them." ... |
