"The glaring headline and accompanying graphic could not have been more alarming or more misleading ... CNN, no protectors of the Second Amendment, quickly took the information that Everytown.org is peddling to task, and discovered that only 15 of the alleged 74 incidents were 'situations similar to the violence in Oregon — a minor or adult actively shooting inside or near a school.' While I agree that even 15 is 15 too many, it should be pointed out that Everytown.org is not focused on ending gun violence, for no one sees it rallying around gang-infested cities with the most-stringent gun laws, such as Chicago, but rather it is trying to push an agenda of ending the Second Amendment right of law-abiding citizens." ...

... "Now, though, VPC is fully on board with a growing trend, noted here several times in the recent past, of not worrying about 'assault features,' and arguing for a ban of all semi-automatic, detachable magazine-fed firearms. So, as VPC executive director Josh Sugarmann told Salon, the problem is all such firearms, with or without 'assault features':"
"The first thing that needs to be done is we need to recognize that the common thread that runs through mass shootings and that really shapes gun violence as we know it today is a combination of semi-auto firearms, detachable ammunition magazines, and it ranges from high-capacity pistols to semi-automatic assault rifles." ...

"A recent map and article generated by Michael Bloomberg's Everytown astroturf organization began circulating around the Internet last week, claiming that 74 school massacres have taken place since Adam Lanza went on his rampage in 2012, murdering innocent children and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School. 'How many more before our leaders pass common-sense laws to prevent gun violence and save lives?' the Bloombergian band of bullying neo-fascists shriek in their zeal to relieve you of your rights?" ...

"Yesterday’s Wall Street Journal featured a stunning display of candor from the man it described as 'the face of the gun-control movement' for billionaire anti-gunner Michael Bloomberg, who acknowledged as he stepped down Friday as head of the ex-mayor’s gun control effort that, 'when a mass shooting happens…nothing that we have to offer would have stopped that mass shooting.'" ...

Gun Control: Why Passing More Laws Will Not Stop Mass Shootings

"Passing more gun control laws will not prevent the tragic mass shootings and school shootings which have sadly become commonplace in America. The state of California and the city of Chicago have had some of the most stringent gun laws on the books for years, yet both continue to be home to mounting crime rates. Second Amendment supporters and the NRA are not to blame for the horrific loss of life we all read about on a nearly weekly basis. The cultural decline in the United States and a lack of adherence to mental health issues must shoulder the death toll burden." ...

Gun Control Industrial Complex? Not As Far-Fetched As You’d Think

"Last month I had a meeting with two friends of mine who practice criminal defense in our area and we happened upon a strange topic. What’s the benefit to convoluted gun laws? Is there a military industrial complex in the gun world? An iron triangle? People don’t understand these laws. Even some prosecutors barely understand them, but they get convictions. How is the public served by the giant ball of wax that is gun control? The fundamental basis of all gun control isn’t necessarily guns – it’s control. We all know that, but there’s a unique vicious circle that can ensnare even the most law abiding citizen . . ." ...

"I’m all for open carry. I enjoy seeing people carrying their guns in public; hell, I’ve done it. It was a pleasant experience, I met some fine people and a few curious folks received some friendly information and education. People driving by honked and waved. Over all, it was a resounding success and I would do it again. After some recent OC flub-ups, though, I got to thinking about what OCers are doing right, and what we’re doing wrong . . ." ...

"I’m a Beretta guy. I love their shotguns, pistols, the Beretta name, history, and legacy. The name Beretta seems to roll off the tongue like Maserati, Ferrari, and Lamborghini. It exudes a sense of quality and that sensuous Italian mystique that German, Austrian, Czech, and American firearms can never hope to achieve. Don’t get me wrong; I love all of my firearms, but my favorites are my Berettas. To be fair, I shoot extremely well with my GLOCK 22 and 27. But the GLOCK design is minimalism to an extreme. They’re one of the best examples of form following function in a modern pistol. But as reliable and competent as GLOCKs are, they leave me cold . . ." ...

"Don’t underestimate the value of a bad ammunition magazine. If you’ve been around guns for any amount of time, you’ve run into them. Whether you purchased a questionable no-name mag at a gun show or one came with your or your buddy’s firearm, we have all had the experience of a bad magazine. But instead of throwing them away, running them over with the truck or even blasting the holy crap out of them at the range, let me suggest another course of action, one that might even have you turning good functional magazines into the bane of most magazine shoppers . . ." ...

"This past week Everytown for Gun Safety, a group advocating greater gun control, reported that in the 18 months since the massacre at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, in December 2012, there have been 74 school shootings in our nation. The U.S. has now become the world leader in this category. And if we were to include all firearm-related incidents, we would find that more than 30,000 people in our nation die each year from these."

"Really? It has come to this? Our political system is so gridlocked, dysfunctional and hammerlocked by the gun lobby that the best we can do for our babies is to buy them an orange, bulletproof baby blanket for school?"

"I recently contacted U.S. Rep. Andre Carson in regard to the government assault on the Second Amendment. Government is using an issue of troubled, evil liberals attacking and killing innocents, and twisting it in an attempt to falsely make it a firearms issue. Moreover, government is then attempting to illegally infringe upon the constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans."

"Carson wrote: 'Most American gun owners register their weapons, follow all necessary safety precautions, and use them only as tools for protection or recreation. "Straw men cannot and should not buy guns. A 'straw man,' in this context, is a person who buys a gun on behalf of another, an act that is prohibited when the purchase is made from a federally licensed dealer."

"The intention of the federal law was to ensure people who cannot legally buy guns – felons, minors and the mentally ill, for example -- can’t simply hire a proxy, someone who can pass the rigorous background checks licensed dealers are required to perform. It is meant to inhibit those from buying guns with the intent of selling to other, incompetent 3rd party buyers."

My American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language defines 'militia' as follows: 'A citizen army, as distinct from a body of professional soldiers. The armed citizenry as distinct from the regular army. The able-bodied male citizens of the state who are not member of the regular armed forces, but who are called to military service in cases of emergency.'" ...
