The Texas Department of Public Safety will launch an awareness campaign to urge gun owners to lock away their firearms. The initiative is part of the state budget Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law this past weekend. The budget allocates $1 million over two years to the campaign, which will likely be similar to DPS’ Don’t Mess With Texas and Turn Around Don’t Drown awareness campaigns. |

The city of Sioux Falls is looking to "cleanup" the wording of a city ordinance that can help local police find stolen guns. The city's action is in response to a change in state law that prohibits local governments from making the final decision on gun purchases. For years Sioux Falls pawn shops have cross checked guns brought into their shop with a database to make sure the guns aren't stolen.

The Fresno City Council will consider spending $200,000 to help finance the Advanced Peace program. Councilmember Miguel Arias said it is aimed at getting gang members who use guns, to give up the gang life. "In essence, Advanced Peace identifies the most active shooters in Fresno and enrolls them into a prevention program to help them with mentorship and job placement," Arias said. The program is underway in Stockton, Sacramento and Richmond, and Fresno police chief Jerry Dyer says it shows promise. |

It’s not every day that one gets to ambush one of America’s top secret commandos. But that is just what we did. Not long ago, Maj. John L. Plaster, U.S. Army (Ret.), who ran 22 secret missions behind enemy lines in Laos and Cambodia with the Studies and Observations Group (SOG), wrote about his “best friend” in Vietnam in “Behind Enemy Lines With The CAR-15” . “Some men’s best friends might be named Bill or Mike or Dave. But the best friend I ever had bore the unusual moniker, 905442. That was the serial number of my Colt Automatic Rifle-15, and ‘he’ saved my life many times.” |

Senate Bill 147, which would empower the Game Commission to regulate Sunday hunting, has taken the next step toward lifting the ban on Sunday hunting in Pennsylvania. The bill passed the Appropriations Committee in the state Senate, but did so with some significant changes from the original bill. The way the bill was amended Tuesday would lift the ban on three Sundays throughout the year. The original bill called for 14 Sundays, with 10 potentially occurring in the fall and four in the spring. |

If you’re an outdoorsman – which we’ll go ahead and assume you are since you’re reading this – this news will certainly put a smile on your face. President Trump has approved a proposal that’s being touted a massive win for hunters and anglers. “He’s basically said, ‘Git-R-Done,'” Interior Secretary David Bernhardt said. “The president fundamentally gets that hunters and anglers are the true conservationists in our society. He understands that history and that we need to act in efforts to expand hunting and fishing while at the same time being respectful of private land rights, respectful of state law.”

The National Rifle Association says it protects the right to keep and bear arms. Old organizations do things that made sense at one time, but might not make sense today. Let’s look at what the NRA does now.
What is essential and what is superfluous to the right to keep and bear arms? Remember that the right to keep and bear arms goes away if an essential activity goes away. An activity isn’t essential if other people do it.. and if they do it better. What does the NRA need to do, and what activities were simply nice to have? |

Contrary to the rhetoric of many gun control advocates, the Second Amendment’s protection of the individual right to keep and bear arms is not a malevolent, outdated barricade to peace that must be demolished or diminished in the name of public safety. Rather, the Second Amendment is a fundamental part of the nation’s scheme of ordered liberty. |

It’s less than two weeks until the full impact of Initiative 1639 is felt in Washington State, as explained on the state Attorney General’s website, and for the more than 615,000 citizens with concealed pistol licenses, they will no longer be able to take delivery of handguns on the day of purchase.
There has been a change in policy regarding the FBI’s National Instant Check System, according to a bulletin from the Washington Association of Sheriffs & Police Chiefs. Beginning July 1, all handgun background checks will be the responsibility of local law enforcement. Even with a CPL, handgun buyers will now have to endure the waiting period.

Former Vice President Joe Biden is taking inspiration from Agent 007 in explaining his plan to curb gun violence. “If I get elected president of the United States of America with your help, if that happens, guns, we have the capacity now in a James Bond-style to make sure no one can pull a trigger unless their DNA and fingerprint is on it," Biden told roughly 180 donors in an Upper East Side penthouse Monday evening. "We have that capacity to do it now. You know it."

It's a pivotal time for the sport of hunting, especially among America's youth. Due to urbanization, endless activities for children, and the constant humming draw of electronics, kids are getting less exposure to the outdoors and showing even less interest in hunting. Sadly, hunting has become a dying sport – and yet you can do something about it.

A recent post by Tom Knighton at Bearing Arms offers an interesting proposal: Create a “Gun Pride” month to help promote the appreciation of guns — and the acceptance of same by folks who are currently being conditioned to fear firearms. The reason is probably clear to anyone reading this. Gun owners can and should push back against widespread efforts to silence gun owners through social media and online media platforms such as YouTube and Twitter — not to mention our public education system and television “news” — and what better way than with a pro-gun month? |

Earlier today, Ed picked through the bones of Eric Swalwell’s laughable gun control platform, pointing out a very real gap in the congressman’s grasp of the Second Amendment. But the longshot POTUS candidate isn’t the only member of his party that seems to have trouble grasping the finer points of the Bill of Rights. Democratic Senators Dianne Feinstein (California) and Chris Murphy (Connecticut) published an editorial piece in Time this week and have since been busy publicizing it on social media and cable news.

As Virginia lawmakers prepare to consider gun-control measures in a special General Assembly session and top state officials rove the commonwealth for roundtable discussions about gun laws, at least one Southwest Virginia county has headed in the opposite direction. That’s Carroll County, population 29,000, home of the Labor Day Flea Market and Gun Show, which bills itself as the largest such event east of the Mississippi.

The Maine Senate voted Tuesday to reject a so-called “red flag” bill that would allow police to temporarily confiscate the guns of potentially dangerous individuals. The bipartisan, 20-15 vote is a major blow against a top priority for gun control and gun safety advocates in Maine this year. But an alternative measure negotiated between the Mills administration and the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine could face better odds at picking up support from Republicans and Democrats in rural districts.

We have to take issue with the name Real Avid Smart Drive 90 Gunsmithing Driver Set, as it is not only for gunsmiths. It is our opinion that virtually all shooters and firearms owners, not just gunsmiths, should have this set on their bench. Jim has lost count of the firearms in our collection. Suffice it to say that we do not want the exact number publicized. Some of them date to pre-WWII days, over 70 years ago. And it goes without saying that “standardized” screws don't seem to exist between gun manufacturers. |

The number of people applying for a chance to hunt elk in Wisconsin is down this year compared to 2018’s inaugural elk hunting season. The state Department of Natural Resources announced last week that four hunters were picked to receive elk tags after more than 23,000 had applied. That number is down significantly when compared to the more than 38,000 people who applied for a chance to hunt elk near Clam Lake in 2018. |
