Three teenage girls were alone in their Lawrence County, Kentucky home one hot summer day in 2019. Suddenly, a white car pulled up and two men got out. One man started kicking in the front door. The second suspect circled around to the backyard and began breaking out a window with a shovel. The youngest of the girls, who was 14-years old at the time, found and loaded the family’s 9mm pistol and fired a round at one of the suspects, who both quickly left. |

In the rural South, we are conditioned to a self-image of small communities like fictional Mayberry where crime and violence are almost non-existent and the real dangers from gun violence lurk on the streets and back alleys of Chicago, New York, Detroit, and Los Angeles. However, the mean streets are not limited to the big cities. Rural Mississippians now live squarely in locales prone to gun violence. We don’t live in Mayberry in the rural South. We live in a region and a state with a dangerous rate of gun death and gun violence, and we are – as a state – among the nation’s leaders in household gun ownership.

Outside a church in Southfield on a warm Tuesday afternoon, Bishop Bonnie Perry closed her eyes and stretched out her arms in prayer above a couple of chop saws that were about to slice through guns. The Rt. Rev. Perry, who leads the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan, was at St. David's Episcopal Church on 12 Mile to kick off the start of a gun buyback and destruction program at several churches in metro Detroit.
A man operating the saw then sliced through the gun with a crunch as sparks flew and a crowd of Episcopal clergy and gun control advocates applauded.

I just did a shootout comparing four .380 pocket pistols, and now I’m continuing my assessment with four different, more powerful, pocket pistols. Let's check out these 9mm handguns from Guns.com’s Certified Used section. You might just find your new concealed carry choice.
