"Determined to do everything in her power to impede the right of the people to keep and bear arms, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is 'trying to persuade the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois to dismiss an 18-year-old woman's lawsuit over the state's refusal to issue her a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card, required in Illinois for purchase or possession of guns and ammunition,' St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner Kurt Hofmann reported this morning." ... |

"Yesterday we told of a nine-year-old boy finding a loaded Glock [not pictured] in a movie theater restroom and his father doing the responsible thing by securing it and calling 911. The police took charge of the weapon and were looking for the owner, possibly to prosecute them. According to Tampa PD mouthpiece Laura McElroy, 'We believe that this would meet the standard of willful and wanton disregard for the safety of others, to leave a loaded weapon where a child — and in this case a 9-year-old found the gun — that certainly put others at risk…” Well, that was before they found the gun’s owner…" ... |

... "You would be hard-pressed to find another set of 27 words that evoke as much passion as these. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution is currently the most hotly debated segment of the Bill of Rights. With high-profile cases like the Aurora Cinemark Theater Massacre and the Sandy Hook shooting making national headlines . . ."
"…gun control is very much a dinner-table topic. But how much does your average American know about gun laws, or even guns themselves? What is the difference between how modern society thinks of firearms and how the drafters of the Bill of Rights felt? Exactly how much freedom did the Founding Fathers intend to give the citizenry? ... I’ll start with the last one." ... |

"If one were to listen to the gun-grabbing politicians, one would think that all gun owners are far-right wing extremists bent on opposing everything and everyone opposed to the mainstream Republican agenda. Obviously, as the armed community knows, this is not the case. But, could someone from outside the firearm community tell this? Probably not. In the past, when elections were close and there was less polarization and division, the issue didn’t matter. In today’s political climate . . ." ... |

Sure, I would like to believe that the one time I need to deploy my carry gun, it will function flawlessly, my draw will be perfect, and there will be no equipment malfunctions. But the truth of the matter is, life has a sick sense of humor. Obviously we cannot predict when and how Murphy’s Law will strike, but being prepared for the worst can certainly go a long ways toward saving our lives and the lives of our loved ones . . ." ... |

"For many senior citizens, pocket carry is the most comfortable method available. Bad hips, large mid-section, clothing style or a variety of medical and/or physical conditions that come with old age. I made do with a belt holster for 40 of my 42 years of owning and using a gun. I only started pocket carrying guns two years ago. Prior to that I was not even aware that they had such a thing as pocket holsters. I thought that you just put a small gun in your pocket just like I saw in the old James Cagney movies. It was something you did to impress women like Mae West (by now the younger readers are scratching their heads and wondering who I am talking about). ..." ... |

After President Obama announced plans to arm Syrian rebels with fully automatic machine guns, Ted Cruz tweeted 'Anyone know if President Obama intends to perform background checks on the Syrian rebels before providing them weapons?' And it took off like a gunshot. There are already a couple petitions asking that President Obama have the Syrian rebels pass the same background checks that U.S. citizens currently have to pass to purchase a firearm, including the 6+ month wait for NFA tax stamps. ... "Next time your fellow old geezer friends call you paranoid for carrying a gun in your car you can remind them that senior citizens still make attractive targets to armed carjackers. If it can happen in Gary, IN, the home of the Music Man, it can happen anywhere. This is a good time to remind everyone to make sure you are aware of your surroundings at all time, especially at night when the bogey man comes out. Keep your gun handy and be wary of any stranger. As an old mentor once told me. 'When you see a stranger, start planning on how to kill him .'. Harsh words but he was a hard nosed guy who knew how to survive in dangerous places. While we are plan to stop, rather than kill these days, there is a message in what he said. ..." ... |

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of men and women. — Thomas Paine, The Crisis, Intro. (Dec. 1776). |
