"On May 15, Andrews discovered in horrifying detail the vulnerability of real-estate agents, many of whom are female. That's when the customer she guided to nine area homes suddenly pulled a gun."

'I thought I was going to die,' Andrews said.

So the local police are training real estate agents, but telling them, "Don't carry a knife or gun unless you are trained to use it."

"The women and sprinkling of men who attended also learned to use the body's built-in weapons: Hands deliver painful ear claps, nails rake the face, fingers pull hair, elbows jab abdomens and feet kick out knees. Williams suggested women save the knee-to-the-groin attack for last, 'when the bad guy is down and you can run.' "

"It's been a rough few years for historians. The higher the rung, the greater the fall. Plagiarism infected the works of superstar authors Doris Kearns Goodwin and Stephen Ambrose. Both are prolific writers who fell prey to pressures of time, sloppy researchers, careless rewrites and history as big business, all of which interrupted their 20 minutes of academic celebrity."

"Carolyn Merryweather's letter (Tribune, June 12) in support of the petition to ban concealed guns in schools and churches perfectly illustrates the emotion-driven point of view of gun controllers."

"John Lee [letters, June 7] misreads the Supreme Court's Second Amendment ruling in the Jack Miller case, erroneously suggesting that the court upheld a right to "bear arms" unconnected to service in a "well-regulated militia."

"The Supreme Court decided that the 'obvious purpose' of the amendment was "to assure the continuation and render possible the effectiveness" of state militias, and 'it must be interpreted and applied with that end in view.' "

KABA NOTE: The Supreme Court did NOT say the second amendment was for state militias -- that is a lie... but not a surprise from the Post, who lies often when it comes to gun rights.

Could someone please explain to me exactly how the gun malfunctioned? It seems to me it worked exactly as designed. Perhaps the gun had a habit of jamming. That seems to be the most common malfunction of semi autos.

"Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) plans to offer S. 890, his and Sen. Joe Lieberman's (D-Ct.) bill to regulate gun shows to death, as an amendment to the Defense Authorization bill, which is now on the floor."

"Neither Democrats -- who are nervous about any gun bill -- nor Republicans -- who never want a gun vote -- want McCain to offer that amendment. And they're telling him about it."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
To prohibit a citizen from wearing or carrying a war arm . . . is an unwarranted restriction upon the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of constitutional privilege. [Wilson v. State, 33 Ark. 557, at 560, 34 Am. Rep. 52, at 54 (1878)]
