"Teen-age murder suspect Leeander Jerome Blake was freed from jail yesterday after a concerned Anne Arundel County judge said she had no choice but to order his unrestricted release while an important appeal is pending in the case." ...

"Blake and his neighbor Terrence Tolbert, 20, of Annapolis are charged with first-degree murder, carjacking and related offenses in the Sept. 19 death of businessman Straughan Lee Griffin, who had been unloading groceries in front of his home." ...

So while the state of Maryland lets these violent offenders go free, its draconian gun laws leave the citizenry at the mercy of these thugs.

"The Bulls Eye Shooter Supply Store in Tacoma, Wa., is a busy place."

"Guns come in. Guns go out."

"Sometimes they go out to buyers such as Buford O. Furrow Jr., who in 1999 wounded five people at a Los Angeles Jewish Community Center and killed a Filipino postal employee. One of the assault weapons found in Furrow's van after the attack was purchased at the Bulls Eye."

"Sometimes guns disappear from the Bulls Eye inventory and wind up in the wrong hands. That happened when a Bushmaster .223-caliber semiautomatic assault rifle supposedly in the store's inventory surfaced with John Allen Muhammad and Lee Malvo, alleged snipers accused of terrorizing the D.C. suburbs last fall." ...

"Such statistics are Exhibit A in why it is a bad idea to grant gun dealers and manufacturers immunity from certain legal claims." ...

-------
Using this logic, all car dealers should be held responsible for any drunk driver who kills innocents, and all victims of theft should be sued if the stolen item is subsequently used in a crime.

"It's preposterous to imprison a man for protecting his family, even with a gun that has been made illegal by the unconstitutional actions of our government. What the hell are they thinking when they make such laws? I've said this many times, and those in power don't get it: how the hell can a person defend his family against an illegally-armed violent criminal if he is disarmed by the government?" ...

"RI Senator Jack Reed continues to show us how his personal hatred of firearms is affecting common sense legislation in the Senate and further demonstrates that he is no longer fit to represent RI in the Senate."

"It's no secret that Reed doesn't believe the average person is capable of defending his or herself from criminal attack with a firearm. Even though statistics nationwide prove otherwise. Legislation has recently overwhelmingly passed the U.S. House that protects the gun industry from frivolous lawsuits. This has upset Reed and he is trying everything to prevent it from passing the Senate." ...

"Proponents of the recall—which is currently being promoted in a statewide petition campaign and has apparently gathered more than half the 900,000 required signatures (12 percent of the number of voters in the last election)—note, correctly, that none of these objections matter. The recall provision in the Golden State's constitution does not establish any legal or structural criteria for mounting a recall, and states that 'sufficiency of reason is not reviewable.' "

A man whose arrest contributed to the firing of a Lubbock police officer has sued the officer and the city.

A lawsuit filed by Ricardo Torres claims he suffered physical pain and mental anguish, was falsely imprisoned and endured civil rights violations during his November 2001 arrest on a public intoxication charge outside a Lubbock nightclub.

The arresting officer, Nicholas Medina, was fired in January 2002 after police officials said he used excessive force during Torres' arrest by striking him in the head with his gun and kicking him as he lay on the ground.

Medina won his job back after appealing to an arbitrator, but resigned last month. He declined comment about the lawsuit Thursday.

Torres' lawsuit seeks no more than $50,000.
