Earlier this month, some 200 CEOs signed a letter to the U.S. Senate “demanding that Congress take action on gun safety in the form of new legislation,” according to Yahoo News.
Liberty Park Press has a copy of the letter, which declares, “On top of the human toll is a profound economic impact. At a time when our economy is struggling to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, gun violence costs American taxpayers, employers and communities a staggering $280 billion per year. Employers lose $1.4 million every day in productivity and revenue, and costs associated with victims of gun violence.”

A Texas gun owner defended himself and another woman from a teenager who allegedly tried to rob them at gunpoint in Austin, Texas last week, police announced. Jaylyn Reed, 17, has now been charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Reed was already convicted of a series of robberies in 2021. Police say he was released from juvenile detention on May 27 with an ankle monitor, which he cut it off two days later. Reed then committed a series of nine robberies in five days, police say. |

Police and law enforcement agencies have policies that guide decision-making and the use of appropriate force in escalating actions and in proper weapons use. There are usually many escalating levels of force and tactics that can be applied and almost all, if not all, law enforcement agencies provide detailed and specific training in a use of force continuum and weapons. And, sadly, sometimes the best decision or use of appropriate force in a given situation is not followed by trained law enforcement folks, no matter how well-intentioned. |

One of the latest trends in the concealed carry and personal self defense world is sub-caliber, rimfire firearms for concealed carry, and Federal Ammunition is expanding their Punch Personal Defense rimfire line by releasing a .22 WMR cartridge option recently announced at the 2022 NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits Convention in Houston, TX. The .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire, also known as .22 Magnum, was originally introduced during the late 1950s by Winchester, and with its larger case capacity it is able to push the same types of projectiles found in .22 Long Rifle cartridges faster and flatter. |

The Assembly Judiciary Committee is scheduled to meet on Wednesday morning to consider five new gun control bills, which Gov. Phil Murphy proudly refers to as gun package 3.0. Wait, what happened to the previous two gun control packages? You mean they didn’t work? Legislative Democrats and the Governor told us how great these bills were when they advocated for them in 2018 and 2019. The sad fact is that the only people who got it correct were gun owners who said these bills will do nothing but punish law-abiding citizens. |

As Senate negotiators continue work on fine-tuning concepts for a gun control “framework” announced last week, one issue that has received surprisingly little attention is the potential inclusion of juvenile records in federal firearm background checks. “Who could argue with that?” one might say. “The more records available for review, the better.” The truth, as usual, is more complicated than most people realize. |

Imagine reviewing the schedule of high school extracurricular activities to discover “shooting” on the list. Decades ago, this wasn’t uncommon. Many schools had rifle teams, typically for smallbore and air rifle, with their own ranges. Some still do, but many have long been eliminated for reasons political, financial and environmental. Today, the USA Clay Target League has nearly 1,500 school-based competitive shotgun teams across the country and is 100-percent school approved. |

There’s an interesting phenomenon occurring with those demanding gun control lately. They’ve abandoned pretenses of “common sense.” Now, it’s not gun control. It’s gun rights elimination. President Joe Biden leads the gun control charade parade. The president chides gun owners for not supporting his gun control agenda while at the same time expanding his gun ban wish list. President Biden spoke to the American public from The White House on June 2 to explain his desire to push for expanded gun control.

At the end of May – two years after his unilateral imposition of an “assault weapons” ban – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government introduced Bill C-21, a bill that proposes many firearm-related changes, the most significant of which is a freeze on the sale, transfer, and import of handguns. At the same time, Marco Mendicino, the Liberal government’s public safety minister, announced forthcoming “regulations [to] help stop the growth of personally owned handguns in Canada[,]… expected to come into force in Fall 2022,” apparently regardless of whether Bill C-21 is enacted into law. |

The City Council will vote as part of Monday’s consent calendar on the crafting of an ordinance that would amend the Pasadena Municipal Code to make it a crime to possess ghost guns and ghost gun kits. Ghost guns are do-it-yourself homemade guns made from unregulated gun kits, while ghost gun kits are the receiver portion of a firearm, missing only a few small holes for pins and minor machining. |

As Republicans nationwide gear up to attack Democrats with tough-on-crime platforms this fall, Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams is making guns a central focus of her race for governor, seeking to turn crime into a liability for incumbent Republican Gov. Brian Kemp's reelection bid. Abrams made tightening Georgia's gun laws a big part of a public safety plan she released Thursday, proposing to reverse multiple laws that Georgia Republicans have enacted since 2014 loosening restrictions on who can carry a gun and where.

During recent times, Remington Arms experienced somewhat of a tumultuous path, which finally came to an abrupt halt. For a variety of reasons, including bankruptcies and court settlements, the Mothership was broken up and divided among seven different buyers.

Democratic members of the Texas Senate called for approval of four measures that they said are needed after the deadly school shooting in Uvalde. The lawmakers from the Texas Senate Democratic Caucus held a news conference Monday afternoon to press for raising the age to purchase certain guns to 21, requiring background checks, a 72-hour waiting period for specific weapons and red flag laws. However, they said a special legislative session is needed to address these proposals, but Gov. Greg Abbott has not supported bringing them back for that purpose.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
[The American Colonies were] all democratic governments, where the power is in the hands of the people and where there is not the least difficulty or jealousy about putting arms into the hands of every man in the country. [European countries should not] be ignorant of the strength and the force of such a form of government and how strenuously and almost wonderfully people living under one have sometimes exerted themselves in defence of their rights and liberties and how fatally it has ended with many a man and many a state who have entered into quarrels, wars and contests with them. — George Mason, "Remarks on Annual Elections for the Fairfax Independent Company" in The Papers of George Mason, 1725-1792, ed Robert A. Rutland (Chapel Hill, 1970). |
