"In recent times one has to wonder just where the United Nations gets its ideas for social structure. ..." ...

"Now, the UN wants to dictate that we as free Americans can't think for ourselves and can't own a firearm in our own home or vehicle. ..."

"The UN has announced recently that it wants a standing army. Now let’s think about it. A standing global army that ... wants to take away your right to own a firearm? That’s a scary thought. Just what is the UN planning to do when civilians have no defense? Are they planning to take us over? What’s the deal? I don’t understand why the UN can’t leave the UNITED STATES Constitution alone and mind their own business. " ...

"The National Rifle Association ... is leading a campaign to literally flood the Sri Lanka Mission to the United Nations with letters and postcards protesting an upcoming conference on small arms."

"Ambassador Prasad Kariyawasam of Sri Lanka, president-designate of the two-week long conference beginning Monday, told IPS that the NRA campaign is totally misguided because the meeting is 'not aimed at banning small arms or controlling weapons that are legally manufactured, purchased or traded in conformity with national laws'."

"At last count, his Mission had received over 100,000 ... in what appears to be a rigidly coordinated letter-writing and hate-mail campaign for which the NRA is notorious in this country." ...

Submitter's Note: Yes, it couldn't be the righteous indignation of hundreds of thousands of law-abiding gun owners could it?

"While at the annual conference of the Outdoor Writers Association of America last week, I attended a press conference put on by a new nonprofit group called the American Hunters & Shooters Association. The first thing the executive director said was his group planned to compete with the National Rifle Association." ...

"Bob Ricker, AHSA executive director, didn't pull any punches. He came out swinging and claiming, 'our hunting heritage has been destroyed by the most powerful lobby in Washington, D.C.'"

"Austin Dorr, an AHSA board member, joined in the NRA roast. ... 'It's too focused on forwarding a political agenda and not concentrating enough on things that matter to me like conservation.'" ...
-------

Submitter's Note: As Oleg Volk points out: No one would ever ban your hunting rifle. They will call it a sniper gun, first.

"Is protecting our children important to us as a nation? On June 12, the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) released our annual report on gun violence against children, Protect Children Not Guns. The report shows that the 2,827 children and teens who died from gun violence in 2003 - just one year - is higher than the number of American fighting men and women killed in hostile action in Iraq from 2003 to April 2006 - three years. The bodies of young gunshot victims are streaming into urban hospital trauma centers on the frontlines of an undeclared war on America's children." ...

KABA Note: Repeating lies does not make them more true, and talking about protecting children in the headline, then including 18 and 19 year olds among your 'children and teens' is as good as a lie.

"Last week, a state judge struck down a ban on handguns in San Francisco passed by city voters, arguing that the measure conflicted with state laws that regulate handguns. Proposition H, which won a 58 percent majority last year, would have outlawed the possession of handguns by all city residents ... except law enforcement officers and people who used the guns for 'specific professional purposes.' ... The National Rifle Association sued the city the day after the measure passed, saying it violated citizens' Second Amendment rights. "This letter is in response to Rob Britton's letter (June 6, "We don't need guns to be safe") that Livingston County residents don't need guns for safety. First of all, this country was founded by a well-armed army of citizen soldiers that brought their own weapons to form the minutemen militia."

"I'm 58 years old and I've owned guns for 46 years, and the same weapon I use for hunting and target practice also protects my home. I also enjoy teaching women and children the safe way to use firearms. If more children were taught gun safety, I believe there would be less accidents."

"Perhaps you've listened too much of the anti-gun garbage spewed forth by the likes of senators Chuck Schumer, Ted Kennedy and Hillary Rodham Clinton. My guns have killed less people than Kennedy's car." ...

"Over three days, from June 16 to 18, weapons, from machine guns to pistols, were on display and for sale at the annual gun show at the Valley Forge Convention Center, a reminder of the freedoms provided by the Second Amendment."

"'A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed,' reads the simple, yet powerful provision." ...

"A lot has changed since the founders of this nation were fighting Red Coats for independence and exploring the frontier, so it would make sense that our application of the amendment would evolve with the times." ...

The Chiefs say they would like to see the Harper government keep the Federal gun registry. ... when the Chief's speak of their officers routinely checking the database when they’re heading into a potentially dangerous situation such as a domestic dispute – what's their point? That registry does not contain the names of the ten of thousands who have not registered their guns – it certainly doesn't list those who possess smuggled or otherwise illegal guns. So have the Chiefs forgotten what every member of their front-line troops must never forget – that you always enter those potentially dangerous situations assuming that there well may be a gun or guns in there." ...

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms.
