... "These frequent attacks came in my neighborhood because Washington has the most extreme gun control laws in America. And no one working on Capitol Hill could afford to have his or her name show up in the Washington Post on an illegal weapons charge. But the thugs who victimized the neighborhood did not share the same concerns, so they roamed at will and terrorized law-abiding citizens, citizens who were not allowed to defend themselves, or their children from such attacks."

"After 9/11, the attitude of many Americans seemed to be whatever the feds need to do to make sure this never happened again, let them do it. What the feds asked for was the Patriot Act, and a loosening of many of the rules that bound them from going full bore after terrorist suspects. But a year-and-a-half later, many watchdog groups and their members are worried America may have given too much power to federal law enforcement."

"With just 19 days to go in OfficialPoll's month-long question: 'Should George W Bush be impeached?', and with more than 2,730 votes counted, a majority of those polled say 'Yes', president Bush should face impeachment for lies told to the U.S. Congress and the nation, not to mention the United Kingdom—through Tony Blair's support of Bush's story, which lead both countries to attack Iraq."

"It is a violation of federal criminal law, including the broad federal anti-conspiracy statute, which renders it a felony 'to defraud the United States, or any agency thereof in any manner or for any purpose.' Manipulation or deliberate misuse of national security intelligence data, if proven, could be 'a high crime' under the Constitution's impeachment clause."

Gov. Rick Perry has signed into law HB284 (RV traveling exemption), HB3477 (Reciprocity to the AG) and SB501 (CHL City Preemption). We faced a well-organized, well respected foe in the Texas Municipal League. That we prevailed is testimony to our lobbying force in Austin and the numerous faxes, letters and phonecalls from thousands of dedicated supporters of the 2nd Amendment.

"On April 22, during lengthy interrogations by Prince George's detectives at the Sierra Vista police station, the three readily agreed that they were pictured in the video and acknowledged using the ATM at a SunTrust Bank near Mansfield's home in Mitchellville. In recent interviews with The Washington Post, however, they said they told the detectives again and again that they had not used a stolen card and knew nothing about a killing. Nevertheless, each was charged with first-degree murder."

"LAPD disciplinary boards have overturned the city's Police Commission at least four times in recent years, allowing officers to escape punishment for shootings that the department's civilian bosses ruled improper, a Times investigation has found."

"Even in shooting cases where there was no dispute between police panels and the commission, penalties were often no more severe than might be imposed when an officer lost a piece of equipment, failed to show up in court or got into a traffic accident. Moreover, the LAPD has struggled for years to develop specific punishment guidelines and has meted out inconsistent penalties in shooting cases."

"FBI agents have confirmed that a search warrant was served Thursday night on the home of a self-described military watchdog in the tiny town of Rachel, near the mysterious Area 51 military base. We've learned this action was initiated by the Joint Terrorism Task Force. The search warrant remains sealed and the FBI won’t say what was seized from the home of Rachel resident Chuck Clark. We believe the action was taken because Chuck Clark escorted the I-Team on a tour of the roads surrounding the base. During the visit, he showed us the location of military sensors, hidden on public land. Here's our story."

No, what it does is breed distrust and paranoia among families and fosters dependence on avoidance, instead of personal responsibility.

I received a reply from Glenn F. Lamartin, Director Defense Systems of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense to a fax I sent to President Bush.

... "I understand your concern for the stewardship of our valuable government resources. The Department maintains a life-cycle management process for weapons, including small arms, which provides tight control of over weapons from acquisition through demilitarization. This process, under Department regulations, does not permit the sale of military-use weapons to civilian citizens. Furthermore, the United States is party to a number of international agreements which would make the action you request problematic."

"It would seem to me that knowing my neighbor is registered to carry a firearm under his jacket is as good as my knowing that he is carrying the firearm. I’m going to be wary in either case. That’s what he would want, isn’t it? But even though the government will know who is registered because it will maintain the records, ordinary citizens will not be able to find out, or find out if the government is harassing people just because they are registered."

It would just give you an excuse to delve into someone's privacy and act like a paranoid bigot simply because your neighbors choose to take responsibility for their own safety, and you choose to rely on the state.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
There are other things so clearly out of the power of Congress, that the bare recital of them is sufficient, I mean the "...rights of bearing arms for defence, or for killing game..." These things seem to have been inserted among their objections, merely to induce the ignorant to believe that Congress would have a power over such objects and to infer from their being refused a place in the Constitution, their intention to exercise that power to the oppression of the people. —ALEXANDER WHITE (1787)
