"Dr. Claire McCarthy is certainly a well-rounded woman; a pediatrician, a mom with five kids, a writer and blogger. So it’s no wonder she only seeems to have time for quick and simple (not to say simplistic) solutions to some problems and noted that yesterday was something called National ASK Day. ASK as in, Asking Saves Kids. The question: 'Is there a gun where your child plays?'" ... |

"I am disturbed that Brad (or anyone, for that matter) can still refer to F&F as some sort of 'botched sting.' There was no botching involved, the operation went down exactly as planned. Straw purchasers bought guns, smuggled them into Mexico for delivery to some of the most violent, vicious criminals in the Northern Hemisphere – Mexican narcotrafficantes. The guns were then recovered from crime scenes, adding weight to the bogus claims that border gun stores in the U.S. were major the suppliers of weapons to the cartels." ... |

"'These aren’t easy days for gun control advocates,' the Chicago Sun Times editorial board admits, giving us good news from the git-go. The paper’s anti-pistol polemic proceeds to laud the City’s unconstitutional efforts to subvert the Supreme Court's McDonald decision ... And then they stop making sense. 'The [gun control] laws — which limits who can own a gun; requires a permit, registry of each gun and firearms training; limits the number of guns per owner, and prohibits guns outside the home — does not discourage gun owners from exercising their Second Amendment rights. It merely regulates that right in a way that helps protect Chicagoans.' Now that is some serious FUD. It gets worse . . ." ... |

"Yesterday we took a look at how it’s not the competitor’s responsibility to call penalties on their fellow shooters. However, that situation arises all the time, where the shooter will see something that the SO/RO missed. Some examples that were brought up yesterday were:- Incorrectly scored target
- A no-shoot was hit that the RO/SO didn’t see
- In USPSA only: a foot fault
- In IDPA only: an improper reload the RO didn’t see"
"Stuff like that happens all the time, and there are plenty of times where the RO/SO misses it, but someone in the squad catches it. So how do you handle it?." ... |

"So this year, I promised myself I'd get to the range more often, acquire some sorely needed gear, and get in more training time with quality instructors. One of the the best decisions I've made so far is to attend a Level I-III Handgun Class at Tactical Defense Institute (TDI)." ... |

"When someone says his pistol is reliable, what does that mean?"
"I’ve met people who defined 'reliable' based on the amount of ammo they carry every day. Someone who carries a Glock 19 with a spare mag wants 31 rounds straight without a stoppage and he’s happy. Of course, that’s a mess from a statistical standpoint. The sample size is too small to draw meaningful conclusions. It might sound smart, but do you really want a gun that is up against its performance envelope shooting such a small number of rounds under ideal range conditions? Probably not." ... |

... "Why is monitoring your breathing pattern important while shooting? I find that the tempo and depth of which I’m breathing directly affects my calm and focus while on the trigger. When my breathing is smooth and calm, my front blade seems to find its way to the target much faster than when I’m panting heavily or doing my open mouth dog pant I often am susceptible to. Hopefully by now it’s obvious that this portion speaks to breathing with handguns. It’s an art that is drastically different than breathing with a rifle because less of your body contacts the weapon, but some of the same principles apply…" ... |

"Since President Obama asserted executive privilege earlier this week over a set of Department of Justice internal documents, the National Rifle Association has been quick to claim that the president's action is proof at last for the organization's insane conspiracy theory that Operation Fast and Furious was actually designed as a nefarious plot against the Second Amendment." ... -------

"In 2006, when George W. Bush was president, federal law enforcement officials came up with a spectacularly dumb idea: Allow powerful firearms purchased in the United States to “walk” across the Mexican border, where authorities would trace the weapons and eventually nab the big-time criminals who supply guns to the ultra-violent Mexican drug cartels."
"It is no surprise that most of the weapons promptly disappeared."
"But the [ATF], undeterred by failure, went back to the 'gun-walking' technique again the following year — and used it once more in 2009, after President Obama had taken office, in the tragic fiasco known as 'Operation Fast and Furious.'" ... -------

"There has been a lot of dispute on the internet lately concerning pink guns. Some people think that pink guns are a sexist approach by the manufactueres to sell to women; some people think pink guns are just a desperate attempt to make women interested in shooting to begin with; some think they look too much like a toy; and then there are those who actually like pink guns."
"I usually don’t jump into these petty disputes (honestly, why are we even taking the time to write about this), but I haven’t seen anybody make the obvious arguments yet, and I’m sick of waiting."

"After being the victim of a home invasion, Miller was determined to take advantage of the 2008 Supreme Court ruling striking down Washington, D.C.'s handgun ban. Miller initially thought the process of purchasing a firearm 'would just be a hassle for a couple of weeks,' and decided to blog her experiences at washingtontimes.com. "There’s been a lot of discussion lately of women in the firearms industry. And, more specifically, the industry’s treatment of women. The entire social dynamic intrigues me, and as a woman in the industry I have the habit of questioning myself every step of the way."
"In this industry the rise of women has created an intriguing phenomenon, I call it 'dog and pony syndrome.' In essence the females of the gun world; the capable, intelligent, professional women who are truly good at what they do; have become a spectacle. While the industry itself, and many of the women, interpret this as 'success' and 'support' I can’t help but sit back and wonder if this is really, really what we’re aiming for." ... |

"But while that investigation has dragged on, with Attorney General Eric Holder denying knowledge of the program, denying knowledge of who was involved and denying congressional investigators access to tens of thousands of documents that might answer those questions, New Mexico gun dealer Rick Reese and his two sons Ryin and Remington have sat rotting in separate detention centers, jails and prisons around the state accused of a similar crime [willfully permitting straw sales] involving some 30 guns." ...
"During this first hearing, we learned several things about the prosecution’s case. For instance, we learned that prosecutors acknowledge that every gun the Reeses sold was properly logged into and out of their store inventory, and that FBI background checks were conducted, and approvals received, for each purchaser. They also agree that all taxes were paid and no money was exchanged 'under the table,' nor did any of the family members receive compensation above their normal company paycheck." ... |
