Talk about being a good neighbor.

A pregnant pizza driver was being beaten with a rifle by two teens in southwest Atlanta on Wednesday night when a gun-owning nearby resident saw the incident and sprang into action, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Dennis Madaris told the station he pulled out his weapon and told the suspects, “Drop the gun or I’ll drop you,” according to the station.

The Second Amendment had nothing to do with slavery

For 20 years now, a well-meaning law professor has been peddling the fiction that the Second Amendment – guaranteeing the right of Americans to keep and bear arms – was adopted to protect slavery. He first proposed this in a 1998 law review article and trotted it out again in a recent New York Times op-ed.

The trouble is: It’s untrue. Not a single one of America’s founders is known to have suggested such a purpose.

When the Redcoats came to disarm the colonists, the American patriots relied on the right to “have arms for their Defense,” as stated in the English Declaration of Rights of 1689.

Bill Maher and Colin Noir, the “new face of gun culture” walk into a room—it sounds like the beginning of a corny joke, but no, it was just another episode of Real Time with Bill Maher. Indeed, on Friday night Noir, the host of NRATV’s web series NOIR, sat in Maher’s hot seat.

Maher surprisingly started off the conversation cordially with him—unfortunately setting the tone for the rest of the interview. He even offered him a faint compliment.

“I have seen your videos many times. You’re very good at what you do,” Maher said. “You kind of earn your smirk. Because people like me who don’t really like guns, we don’t know much about guns.”

What does your child’s tee-ball team, an elementary school field day, and the institutional gun control lobby have in common? They all give out participation trophies.

On June 14, the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence (a recent combination of Americans for Responsible Solutions and Legal Community Against Violence) honored Hillary Clinton with their Courageous Leadership Award at their 25th anniversary dinner in San Francisco. According to a press release from the group, the dinner “honors the exceptional efforts of key individuals who have shown outstanding leadership in the gun violence prevention movement.”

New York gun owners will take any bit of good news coming out of Albany that they can get. NRA-ILA vigorously opposed measures that were gaining steam in the final weeks of session. That effort came to a conclusion in the early hours Thursday morning when the Senate finally wrapped up its work for the year. A pair of anti-gun bills remained sitting in their respective hoppers failing to advance. The Assembly had adjourned a few hours earlier, late Wednesday night.

There are roughly a billion guns in the world, according to the latest data compiled by weaponry watchdogs the Small Arms Survey. Of these, a stunning 857 million are owned by private citizens, with only 133 million in the hands of authorized military forces and just 23 million used by law enforcement. This lop-sided ratio is getting more extreme, too—led by increases in U.S. purchases—with individuals possessing 650 million of the world’s firearms just ten years ago. These numbers include all firearms, of any type.

In this election cycle, the Democratic Party has fielded a weak crop of statewide candidates who are struggling to deliver any kind of unified message. Do they want single-payer health care? Humane immigration policy? Congressional term limits? Who knows. On the other hand, we do know what the Texas Republican Party stands for: limited government, the Second Amendment, banning abortion. It’s a theme that serves the GOP well in both suburban and rural areas, but Democrats have struggled to articulate any similarly straightforward messaging.

The complications of the gun control debate for Democrats in Texas is hard to miss at the party’s statewide convention this week.

In an exhibit hall at the Fort Worth Convention Center, Moms Demand Action, a group that is calling for changes to gun laws in the Lone Star State, is next to a booth sponsored by the Texas State Rifle Association, which is handing out literature touting its success at opposing many of the measures Moms Demand Action want.

“I’m not here to change hearts and minds,” said Odie Hitt, who was staffing the Texas State Rifle Association’s booth on Friday morning. “I’m just here to give information.”

Under the new student handbook for Riverton High School, administrators now have an option to not suspend students for “the use of force when it is used in response to an immediate threat.”

However, if a student is physically assaulted on campus, that student can “only employ as much force as required to remove the threat.”

The district will still not allow “retaliatory” violence and any student claiming they acted in self defense must present “clear evidence” to prove that assertion.

RHS principal John Griffith said that, previously, there has been “no option to not have a consequence” for students who fight back when attacked.

Palm Beach County Judge Laura Johnson late Friday ruled in favor of Samuel “Bo” Barber’s “stand your ground” motion that said he shot and killed Kunta Kinte Riddick in self-defense in November.

Barber was charged with first-degree murder in the 2017 fatal shooting, but the charges were dismissed in court Friday evening.

Johnson said at the end of the day, what happened to Riddick was a tragedy, but that the state did not show “clear and convincing evidence” that Barber was not acting in self-defense when he shot Riddick on Nov. 29 in Boynton Beach.

Hollywood liberals are vilifying and attacking NRA members nonstop, and it’s time to let you know exactly who we are. I was a Hollywood liberal. No, I wasn’t as famous as you, but I lived with you for 14 years. I assisted you and I was on set with you and I was on stage with you. I voted with you. I shopped with you, I ate with you and I sat in traffic with you. I am the NRA.

Survivors of the Parkland, Florida, school shooting paid a visit to Rep. Paul Ryan’s Janesville office Friday, demanding the House speaker push for universal background checks on gun purchases.

David Hogg, a national figure in the gun safety movement and a founder of the group March For Our Lives, was among more than a dozen students who huddled around a small window to speak with Ryan’s staffers.

“Here’s the deal: Did you know that 97 percent of Americans support universal background checks?” Hogg asked the staffers on the opposite side of the window.

“Within a 90-day period, it just wasn’t something we could address,” Plummer said Friday. “We were looking for immediate, actionable items and obviously that debate (on guns) continues with very little consensus.”

We asked Plummer if any task force members brought up the issues of gun laws, and he responded by saying the members were told at the start the focus of their work would be on actionable items.

A criminal case in Albany County Circuit Court involving the University of Wyoming’s campus gun ban has received a stay, pending a separate civil action against UW seeking to challenge the legality of that ban.

During the Wyoming State Republican Party Convention in April — hosted on the UW campus — Uinta County delegate Lyle Williams received a trespassing citation for openly carrying a firearm without permission, which is prohibited by university policy.
