It all started in 1946, when John Nosler was hunting moose with a .300 H&H. He hit the beast and hit it square. However, the bullets did not penetrate the animal deeply enough to reach vital organs. This meant a long and painful death for the animal. On his way home from the hunt, John started thinking about creating a bullet that would perform consistently – no matter the size of the game nor the shot angle. The result was a dual-core bullet that would eventually become the first Nosler Partition in 1948. On the next hunt, the moose was killed with one shot, and Nosler was born. |

A stunning new report from researchers at NYU shows “a causal link between print news media coverage of U.S. gun control policy in the wake of mass shooting events and increases in firearm acquisition.”
Headlined “Mathematics Ties Media Coverage of Gun Control to Upticks in Gun Purchases,” the study was reportedly led by NYU researchers in the Tandon School of Engineering “in collaboration with faculty at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and Northeastern University.” |

On Monday, the Johnson County District Attorney said a deadly shooting in Overland Park was self-defense, and he would not pursue charges. The shooting took place at a phone store in the city, when the DA says a thief came in demanding money from the clerk at gunpoint. At some point, the DA says, the clerk produced a handgun while fearing for his life and the life of his co-worker. |

Many people see gun rights and gun regulation as a black-and-white issue — you’re either pro-gun or anti-gun. When it comes to women’s self defense, though, those lines get blurry. In the second of a two-part story, we look at how guns are marketed to women as protection from violence … and at what can happen when a woman fires a gun to protect herself. |

The New York Times recently asked 21 Democratic presidential contenders a question about firearms, and none of them advocated gun control. Instead, they called for “commonsense gun safety,” a euphemism that reflects a general caginess about how far they would go in restricting the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. “In an ideal world,” the Times asked, “would anyone own handguns?” Many of the answers reinforce the impression that the Democratic Party is increasingly hostile to the Second Amendment. |

The mayor of South Bend, Indiana is not normally someone you’d think of as a player in a presidential race. Particularly if that mayor is less than 40 years old (NRA member John F. Kennedy won the White House at the age of 43), and also has service in the War on Terror as a member of the Navy Reserve. So, in that regard, Pete Buttigieg warrants attention from Second Amendment supporters, since he will likely be around for a while. |

It's your Second Amendment right, the right to bear arms. Starting next week, South Dakota will join 13 other states where you no longer need a permit to carry a concealed weapon, that includes kids, who are with a parent or legal guardian. The new law, that takes affect July 1, was passed in this year's legislative session. It eliminates the requirement for a gun permit, which opens the door for more people to carry concealed weapons in the state. |

On April 29, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to grant a request by the city of New York to delay the proceedings in the NRA-supported appeal of New York State Rifle & Pistol Ass’n, Inc. v. City of New York (No. 15-683). Generally, New York state law prohibits even the possession of a handgun in the home without a license. A licensee in New York City (NYC) must comply with additional and specific restrictions. A license is “not transferable to any other person or location,” and anyone with a “premises license” is prohibited from removing the handgun “from the address specified on the license." |

Anti-gun U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., has begun moving on legislation that would ban the sale of so-called “high-capacity magazines” and “assault weapons” to adults under the age of 21. She previously backed a similar bill in 2018, co-sponsored with Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake, but that measure died in committee. “If you’re too young to purchase a handgun, you shouldn’t be able to buy an assault rifle,” said Sen. Feinstein. “It’s common sense to prevent the sale of deadly assault weapons to individuals who aren’t even allowed to buy a beer. This isn’t a fix-all bill, but it closes a gaping loophole in federal gun safety laws, and I hope the Senate will act on it swiftly.”

Anti-gun politicians in the 116th Congress have no shortage of ideas when it comes to different ways of threatening the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners in America. The misnomer phrase “common sense gun safety” includes misguided and ineffective policies such as requiring background checks to purchase ammunition or requiring so-called “smart gun” technology despite the slew of unanswered questions that experts have posed about the reliability of the unproven technology.

There is some controversy surrounding the open-carry of firearms at a Whataburger joint in Big Spring. One licensed resident, Jason Kennemur, was denied service last Saturday when he walked into the store with an openly-carried gun. “I don’t generally patronize places that don’t allow concealed carry. I don’t mind if they don’t allow open carry, that’s their right, that’s everybody’s right. that’s just fine. I don’t have to eat there,” said Kennemur.

Mt. Juliet city employees might be able to bring their guns to work if city commissioners approve an ordinance. Eddie Poole, a Mt. Juliet resident, said he’s in favor of it. “I think if they got a carry permit they should be able to do that and protect themselves,” Poole said, "I think it will help. It will be a deterrent if anybody wants to go in there and do anything they shouldn't be doing." |

Every time there is another mass shooting, calls begin anew for a ban on private ownership of semiautomatic rifles. But, sadly, the time has passed when such an approach would make a decisive difference in the United States. In an era of declining hunting, firearms manufacturers have increasingly transformed their product lines to feed gun buyers’ desires for military-style weaponry. Even if Congress could agree to pass a new law banning semiautomatic rifles – a big if in today’s polarized climate – a wide range of combat weapons would still be legally available, along with accessories to make them deadlier. |
