"The Second Amendment is among the most misunderstood provisions of the U.S. Constitution. That is not because it is particularly difficult to understand. On the contrary, for more than a hundred years after it was adopted, hardly anyone seemed the least bit confused about what it meant. The confusion, and some serious mistakes, only became widespread in the twentieth century, when influential people began to think it was a good idea to disarm the civilian population." |

"The school system is scrapping a social issues class a Board of Education member criticized as too liberal."
"It's biased towards the left. It sounds like it came out of (University of California at) Berkeley. It's anti-cop," said board member Kim Raseman, a Democrat. One parent said canceling the class is "censorship."
Raseman said he never attended one of the classes and did not talk to the teacher or the students. He said he based his criticism on the textbook and the syllabus. He said he found fault with questions in the syllabus like "Does gun ownership increase violence in the United States?"
"If you're going to censor lies, it's not censorship," he said.
"The class' 10-page curriculum explores contemporary issues such as the environment, civil rights, medicine and individual privacy. Issues addressed include assisted suicide, homosexuality, abortion, gun control and reproductive technologies." |

"Armed sky marshals could still become a feature on European flights as part of tighter security measures to prevent terrorist attacks."
"The option was studied and then dropped by EU governments last year in the wake of the September 11 attacks."
"But now the European Commission says the success of sky marshals elsewhere in the world means the plan should be looked at once more."
"Legal problems over carrying guns on European aircraft, and the huge cost of maintaining security teams had prompted ministers to abandon the idea in favour of tighter checks on baggage and passengers." |

"The state House unanimously passed a resolution yesterday urging Gov. Mark S. Schweiker to order National Guard troops patrolling the state's five nuclear power plants to carry loaded weapons."
"The resolution is sponsored by Minority Whip Mike Veon, whose Beaver County district includes a nuclear plant in Shippingport. Veon said he has received several calls over the past eight months from Guard members and their families, who say the troops have been carrying unloaded guns."
"He said he proposed the resolution out of frustration with his inability to get answers from the administration or National Guard officials to confirm whether this is true."
"I don't believe this administration can continue to tell Pennsylvanians we are among the most prepared states in the nation in respect to homeland security when our soldiers aren't even permitted to carry loaded weapons," Veon said. |

"More than 300 free gun locks were given out in Kaimuki yesterday to kick off the Hawai'i portion of a nationwide firearm safety program."
"Project HomeSafe workers set up their tent and mobile truck unit in the Kaimuki Pizza Hut/Taco Bell parking lot while almost 100 people waited for their gun locks."
"There are more than 1 million guns in Hawai'i, with 14,000 new registrations each year, said Maj. Tim Slovak, Honolulu Police Department division commander in charge of records and identification."
KABA NOTE: The federal government is funding this program -- $5 million -- but they do not have the Constitutional authority to appropriate public funds and use them in this manner. The "National Shooting Sports Foundation" is an accomplice. |

"The three youths who flashed a gun at passing motorists on Route 1 are still alive. The 16-year-old male who pointed a gun at three teens in the parking lot at Midway Billiards is still alive but faces charges. The four people who had a gun in their truck when they were arrested for a hate crime, May 24, are still able to tell their story."
"In each of the incidents in Delaware State Police territory during the past two months, suspects brandished BB pistols that look like real guns. All escaped a tragedy either from inciting a problem with someone who had a real gun or from an officer trained to react with force when weapons are involved in a situation."
"...since most of the incidents police have seen involve young people, the responsibility falls on parents." |

"The Florida Supreme Court has refused to review a controversial appeals court ruling that declared an Okeechobee pawnshop negligent for selling a gun to a mildly retarded man three days before he killed an Ohio tourist four years ago."
"The decision ended a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the widow of tourist Sonny George Jones against Williams Gun & Pawn, the shop that sold a.38-caliber handgun to Jamie Lofton in November 1998."
""This means people in the gun business have an added liability if they are going to sell a gun to a mentally disturbed person, even if that person is not noticeably weird," Stuart attorney Jack Sobel said." |

"Gun control advocates say a new Justice Department interpretation of the Second Amendment could affect the course of pending litigation, and they are urging attorneys to take note."
"The Brady Campaign, a Washington-based advocacy organization that favors gun control, is taking aim at two footnotes published last April by the Department of Justice."
"Those notes refer to a finding of two judges sitting on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. The judges interpreted the Second Amendment to the Constitution as guaranteeing an individual right to keep and bear arms, subject to certain reasonable restrictions."
"At a briefing with reporters last week, Brady Campaign attorney Dennis A. Henigan said that Attorney General John Aschroft is misusing precedent. He said that most other circuits have interpreted the 2nd amendment to support a collective, 'militia-use' right, and did not extend that right to private citizens."
"He said that the decision to use the 5th circuit precedent was selective and arbitrary." |

Any American who loves the concept and practice of "liberty" should be scared to the very core of his being when government moves beyond its authority and does not adhere to the dictates of the true governing body, the sovereign people, resulting in a "ruling" body over people. ... Because each of the people governs himself does not mean there is the absence of any form of political authority resulting in disorder and confusion or lacking in any cohesive principle or anarchy. |

"The sacrifice created by humanity's fear of the unknown is twofold and therefore doubly tragic. Especially when the sacrifice involves freedom. Any individual that willingly relinquishes their own freedom for a promise of greater security will have no qualms about voting away someone else’s liberty.... People sacrifice themselves and their neighbors on the altar of Sacred Safety, which is a false-god conjured by the beast Bureaucracy feasting upon an ample fare of human fear." |

"A grand jury investigating an FBI agent's mistaken shooting of an unarmed Pasadena man in March began taking testimony yesterday, with the wounded 20-year-old as one of the first witnesses."
"FBI mistook Schultz for a bank robbery suspect the agent and his unit were searching for that day and shot him in the face with an M-4 rifle."
"The FBI admitted the error. Schultz had nothing to do with the bank robbery, and a suspect was arrested two days later."
G. Hughes also submitted: "The Anne Arundel County grand jury is expected to hear many more witnesses as it considers whether to indict FBI Special Agent Christopher Braga for shooting Joseph Charles Schultz on March 1 as Schultz and his girlfriend returned from a trip to a mall." |

SAN FRANCISCO, California -- "A federal appeals court ruled Wednesday that the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. flag cannot be recited in public schools because the phrase "under God" endorses religion."
"In a 2-1 decision, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that reciting the phrase was a violation of the constitutional separation of church and state and amounted to government endorsing religion."
"The 9th Circuit is the most liberal and the most overturned appeals court in the country."
Another Newslinks submitter's comments: "Now that the Pledge of Allegiance has been declared unconstitutional, should we stop using US money? If this isn't the biggest bunch of horse manure, I don't know what is."
KABA NOTE: The 9th circuit has also said the Second Amendment's "right of the people" refers to the alleged right of states. Anyone who is suprised by this move needs to wake up and smell the coffee. |
