CCRKBA Blasts Jackson For Gun Shop Demagoguery

"Rev. Jesse Jackson's headline-grabbing protest at a suburban Chicago-area gun shop over the weekend produced further proof that Jackson and anti-gunners like him do not understand that even gun owners and retailers have civil rights ..."

"... Jackson was quoted by the Chicago Tribune asserting, 'I think people have the right to bear arms at a hunting reserve.'"

"'For a guy who built his reputation as a so-called defender of civil rights,' observed CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, 'Jackson demonstrated a remarkable ignorance on the subject. A civil right is not subject to fences, or specific activities. The right to keep and bear arms is supposed to apply everywhere, just like the voting rights for which Jackson and others fought hard to defend a generation ago.'" ...

"After denouncing the demagoguery of Rev. Jesse Jackson in his continued protests at a suburban Chicago-area gun shop, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today announced that it has drafted federal legislation that would prevent such protests from interfering with legal businesses."

"'This is not an attack on the First Amendment rights of Jesse Jackson or anyone else,' said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. "... We are working on Capitol Hill right now to gather sponsors."

"'Nobody is saying Jackson can't protest a gun shop,' Gottlieb added. 'We are, however, seeking the same protection from interference that is now guaranteed by federal statute to reproductive health services facilities.'" ...

"As many of you know awhile ago I started an online petition: Fair Treatment of FFL Dealers by the ATF"

"At the time I felt that the ATF could just be reformed, but many wrote comments indicating otherwise. After seeing The Gang, I do not feel that it can be reformed and that it can and should be abolished."

... "So when a Jew decides that their Tzedakah should go not to the needy or to the sick, but to groups supporting gun control, what are they really trying to accomplish?"

"They're not going to help anyone who's suffering. Gun control groups are composed of wealthy dilettantes with too much free time and too little wisdom. They spend their donations on lobbyists, media campaigns, and speakers' fees. Hardly a group in dire need of your spare canned garbanzo beans."

"'But but but!' you'll hear them say, 'gun control helps make things better in the poorest neighborhoods by fighting crime!' Of course, they never heard that the Centers for Disease Control found that gun control has never been effective at all in fighting crime. ..." ...

"Apparently unaware that its producer/writer/director is an outspoken pro-gun advocate, the Moondance International Film Festival, whose stated goal is to 'encourage and inspire non-violent conflict resolution,' has selected Niel Schulman's Lady Magdalene's as a semifinalist ... Upon learning of the selection, Schulman congratulated the festival's director 'on her openness in placing art before politics ...' Informed that ... his movie reflects his pro-gun views, English said in a statement that the film was selected 'based on the film's story of a kind of feminine self-empowerment, but I do not ... advocate the kind of violence depicted in this film ... which is the reason the film will not be screened at the film festival." ..."

"I'm ready at last to support gun control. I believe every police agency in the United States – local, state and federal – should be disarmed."

"After all, the gun-control people have been saying for years that we private citizens have no need for firearms. Well, if that's true for us, it's true for the police. We are the inhabitants of the country. We live in the neighborhoods, we are the victims of crime, and if we don't need guns, then who does?" ...

"Drew Westen's book, The Political Brain: The Role of Emotion in Deciding the Fate of the Nation, is, as far as I can tell, a treatise on the need to stay away from facts and logic in political debate, and instead to focus on emotion. That, anyway, seems to be the gist of this excerpt, focusing on so-called 'gun control' (i.e., civilian disarmament). ... when pushing an agenda so divorced from reality and rationality ... as public safety through state-mandated defenselessness, facts and logic would certainly be things to avoid."

"The California Senate Public Safety Committee will take up the issue of firearms microstamping early tomorrow morning and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) ... is wasting no time in warning all members of the California Senate that passage of the legislation is a de facto ban of firearms. The microstamping bill (AB 1471) would require manufacturers to micro laser engrave, in two separate locations, the gun's make, model and serial number so, in theory, that information would be imprinted on any cartridge casing fired in the gun. Opposition to the legislation has intensified as firearm manufacturers have indicated that passage of microstamping legislation would force them to stop sales into the state because completely reconfiguring their manufacturing and assembly process would be cost prohibitive." ...
