"Cowering in a closet in her home, gunshots popping in the background, Freda Elliott knew the end was near."

"In ragged breaths, she whispered her fears to a 911 operator, begging her to send help quickly."

"As the door to the tiny closet flew open, she begged her ex-husband not to shoot her or her two children." ...

"Co-workers said Freda Elliott was so scared of her ex-husband, whom she divorced last year, that she had taken out court orders of protection against him ..." ...

... "If a politician isn't comfortable with any individual being able to walk into a hardware store, pay cash for any firearm without producing identification or signing a single scrap of paper (and that individual being able to carry that protection concealed or open), then that politician does not support freedom. Gun-control laws only disarm potential victims, thus creating a safe work environment for criminals - kind of like an OSHA for felons." ...

"The primary organizing principle of libertarianism is and must remain the rejection of initiated force. But the rejection of force does not imply that all voluntary organizing principles are equally effective and desirable. Individual action to further freedom needs no coordination or organization. If you see an opportunity to advance freedom that doesn't require anyone's assistance, just do it! Seeking a request, permission, blessing, or title from others for such activity is a total waste of time and energy." ...

... "To describe this film as dishonest and demagogic would almost be to promote those terms to the level of respectability. To describe this film as a piece of crap would be to run the risk of a discourse that would never again rise above the excremental. To describe it as an exercise in facile crowd-pleasing would be too obvious. Fahrenheit 9/11 is a sinister exercise in moral frivolity, crudely disguised as an exercise in seriousness. It is also a spectacle of abject political cowardice masking itself as a demonstration of 'dissenting' bravery." ...

"Thanks to increased regulation after 9/11, it is more difficult than ever for rocket hobbyists like Ebert to legally store rocket motors -- which often include fuel that is now classified as an explosive -- at home. That often means the motor has to go straight to the launch site in the middle of nowhere." ...

"Years ago, you weren't likely to see a woman taking aim at the Niagara Gun Range or any public gun range. Times have changed."

"Erie County residents are flocking in increasing numbers for pistol permits, often citing personal safety and the fear of a terrorist attack or its chaotic aftermath as reasons for needing a handgun."

"Women drive the trend, in part, and they are headed toward their largest percentage of new permits issued in the county in at least a decade." ...

"Gun drawn, Summerdale police officer Randy Witherington last month lowered his shoulder and burst through the door of a trailer park on Baldwin County 38 South."

"The gun went off, sending a single bullet into the outside steps leading to the door. No one was hurt."

"Coincidentally, the May 28 incident happened just two days after a Baldwin County grand jury blamed an Alabama state trooper's gun for a fatal shooting that occurred on the Causeway."

"Not coincidentally, said District Attorney David Whetstone, Trooper Angel Rodriguez and Witherington had the same kind of weapon -- a Glock pistol with a 5-pound "trigger pull."

"Whetstone, whose office is investigating the Summerdale incident, said it is just one more piece of evidence that supports the case that law enforcement officers should not use guns that are so easily fired." ...

"The SFPD plans to return the old Berettas to the company which supplied the new guns in exchange for a $350,000 credit."

"[SF Police Commission president Louise] Renne, who as a City Attorney took gun manufacturers to court on charges that they allegedly supplied dealers who knowingly did business with criminals, said she wants to make sure that the department’s old guns do not wind up on the streets."

"'We believe that gun manufacturers were not careful in their sales, in that they did make sales where guns ended up on the street. What assurance do we have that this gun manufacturer is not going to make a subsequent sale to places where they could end up in the hands of the criminals?' Renne asked." ...

Burglars made away with a loaded pistol, cash and other valuables from the house of the officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station in Rajbari on Saturday.

According to Abul Khayer Fakir, some unknown people broke into his police station compound flat at around 3:00am and took away a pistol with nine bullets, two cell phone sets and Tk 6,000 when he was sleeping.

The intruders cut the toilet window grills for their business, he added.

As he searched the house, the police official found his belongings, all kept on the table, missing.

Local police held two persons yesterday morning suspecting their alleged link to the stealing. However, police declined to disclose their name.
