"Glenn Beck is a conservative radio talk show host who claims to be neither Republican nor Democrat, and his talk-radio show is very popular among conservatives. Beck recently joined CNN Headline News of all places to host a nightly television show themed along the lines of his radio show. ..."

"Imagine the surprise regular viewers had Monday night when Beck's guest host Diane Dimond of Court TV fame ... interviewed Bob Ricker of The American Shooters & Hunters Association. Dimond introduced the interview by slamming the NRA, estimated there are between 190 and 250 million guns in the United States, and then stated 'I just think there are too many of them out there. Who needs an AK47 to go hunting?'" ...

"Safety catches do not always prevent firearm accidents and even newfangled biometric guns, which check the identity of a user by their fingerprint, cannot stop thieves from using stolen ammunition in other weapons."

"The way to make firearms really safe, says Hebert Meyerle of Germany, is to password-protect the ammunition itself."

"Meyerle is patenting a design for a modified cartridge that would be fired by a burst of high-frequency radio energy. But the energy would only ignite the charge if a solid-state switch within the cartridge had been activated. This would only happen if a password entered into the gun using a tiny keypad matched one stored in the cartridge." ...

"Prosecutor Mike Thomas says the woman acted in self defense and a source close to the investigation says West had a history of assaulting the woman." ...

"This week the UN is meeting in New York to review controls on the illicit arms trade that supplies terrorists and human rights abusers around the world. This conference will review an agreement that was established at the 2001 UN Small Arms Conference, and was the first global initiative on the illegal trade in small arms and light weapons. Calls for stronger regulation have been especially urgent from advocates familiar with conditions in regions that are most heavily impacted by protracted armed conflict, like Sudan. However, there has been concern that the U.S. will block progress and be unwilling to compromise on key issues." ...

"The United Nations is holding a conference beginning this week in New York that ironically coincides with our national 4th of July holiday. It’s ironic because those attending the conference want to do away with one of our most fundamental constitutional freedoms -- the right to bear arms."

"The stated goal of the conference is to eliminate trading in small arms, but the real goal is to advance a worldwide gun control movement that ultimately supercedes national laws, including our own 2nd Amendment. Many UN observers believe the conference will set the stage in coming years for an international gun control treaty." ...

"Metro Police formally accepted more than 130 assault rifles paid for by private donations. The high-powered weapons are intended to bridge the firepower gap between officers and heavily armed criminals."

"Metro says private donations for better weapons began pouring in after the shooting death of Sergeant Henry Prendes. Now that money is being used to beef up the firepower of Metro's patrol officers."

"Metro's newest tool -- a high-powered rifle -- can accurately hit a target at four times the distance of a standard department-issue pistol. Until now, any officer who wanted to carry a rifle on duty had to personally buy it." ...

FULL TEXT BELOW:

In R.D. Boyles' letter he refers to the public's right of weapon choice and any restriction of such. Private individuals are currently not permitted to legally own bazookas, tanks, bombs, fighter planes, etc.

So the general public is already restricted on choice of weapons. It is now just a matter of to what extent.

Mr. Boyles mentions trusting the public on choice of weapons and then mentions the need for equal firepower in self defense. Apparently he does not trust the public, but asks that all of us do.

Even if some can get whatever weapon they want regardless of the law, the law still should not permit the private citizen to own weapons which can kill dozens in a matter of seconds.

Finally, a newspaper expounds common sense upon this silly notion that guns must be 'in plain view' while being carried under a concealed carry law (emphasis added by OFCC):"

"'It seems logical not to require motorists to keep their weapons in plain view. If an officer approaches a vehicle in which a weapon is in plain sight, it increases the chance that a tragic misunderstanding might occur. Rather, let motorists keep their guns locked up, and when approached by an officer, they should tell the officer immediately that they have a concealed carry permit.'" ...
