Round One of the first Democrat candidates’ debates is history, and if there is one thing upon which grassroots gun rights activists seem to agree, it’s that none of the people on that Miami stage Wednesday evening has even a remote grasp of the Second Amendment, and what separates constitutionally-enumerated rights from government-regulated privileges.
Vox.com reported that among Democratic voters, “gun policy” is second only to “climate change” as a major concern. This suggests that gun control “will be a big issue in the 2020 Democratic primary,” Vox observed. |

Throughout history, certain groups of people have been singled out for persecution. Because of what some see as dangerous differences, these outsiders experience ridicule and unprovoked violence at a much higher rate than the general population. The 20th century is littered with such examples: Jews, Gypsies, homoséxuals, and other non-Aryans in Nazi Germany, the Armenians in Ottoman Turkey, Christians in Uganda, anti-Communists during Mao’s Great Leap Forward, or anyone who was thought to be an intellectual during Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge. |

California has among the most stringent gun laws in the country and on Monday a far-reaching new initiative to curb violence will require background checks for every ammunition purchase.
Gov. Gavin Newsom and other proponents said it will save lives but opponents are suing in hopes of eventually undoing a law they said will mostly harm millions of law-abiding gun owners.
Voters approved the checks in 2016 and set an effective date of July 1. Ammunition dealers are seeing a surge in sales as customers stock up before the requirement takes effect. |

A California city is now a sanctuary city, but not for illegal immigrants. The City of Needles has declared itself a sanctuary city for gun owners. The desert town of about five-thousand people sits near the border of California and Arizona, just miles from Nevada and the city council recently unanimously approved the Second Amendment Sanctuary City declaration. |

At the beginning of last night's presidential debate, moderator Chuck Todd noted that even if Congress enacts a new federal ban on so-called assault weapons, which all of the Democratic presidential contenders seem to favor, "there will still be hundreds of millions of guns in this country." He asked the 10 candidates on the stage what, if anything, the federal government should do about that inconvenient fact. Their responses revealed that none of them has a satisfying, or even superficially plausible, answer to that question. |

The National Rifle Association and Second Amendment Foundation are no longer plaintiffs in a lawsuit challenging the city of Edmonds’ new rules governing firearm storage.
The two gun rights groups pulled out earlier this month, leaving residents Brett Bass, Curtis McCullough and Swan Seaberg as the remaining plaintiffs. But the organizations will continue to conduct and fund the legal fight on behalf of the trio.
“We’re definitely not giving up and we plan to win it,” said Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Bellevue-based Second Amendment Foundation. |

SCOTUS to Cuomo: We saw what you did there, and we’re not having it.
The City of New York, perhaps sensing looming disaster, tried a desperate stalling technique in its case against the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association (NYSRPA). The gun-rights group is challenging the city’s restrictive gun laws as infringing on citizens’ Second Amendment rights. |

The NRA is in trouble. Continuing to elect the same people who keep making the same mistakes, is not going to solve the problems. We need new ideas, new perspectives, and new approaches. That means we need new people on the NRA Board of Directors.
Do you know individuals who are qualified? The NRA Board of Directors only meets four times a year. They are tasked with setting policy for the organization and overseeing the proper execution of those policies on behalf of the members, including ensuring that money is raised and spent responsibly. This responsibility is officially reported as requiring about one hour per week from each director, but actually fulfilling the role will probably take much more time than that. |

A botched robbery this weekend left one teen dead and a second teen charged with murder – all while the robbery victim and police say the shooting was in self defense.
Around 5 a.m. Saturday, investigators say two 15-year-old boys tried to rob an unidentified victim in the 3600 block of Reading Road.
The victim fired at the teens, striking 15-year-old Jordan Lara. He was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
The actual shooter, the victim of the robbery, is not facing any charges. However, the surviving teen is. |

The Washington Department of Labor and Industries Division of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH) has released an updated draft of the lead rules they originally released last year following stakeholder meetings. These proposed regulations will impose complicated and expensive burdens on shooting ranges and retailers, potentially making it difficult for some to continue operations. DOSH will be holding additional stakeholder meetings to discuss these proposed regulations. Shooting ranges are vital to the safe practice and exercise of our constitutionally protected Second Amendment right to self-defense, and maintaining access to shooting ranges is a top priority for NRA. |

Presidents and other world leaders and political figures who use Twitter to threaten or abuse others could find their tweets slapped with warning labels.
The new policy, announced by the company on Thursday, comes amid complaints from activists and others that President Donald Trump has gotten a free pass from Twitter to attack his enemies in ways they say could lead to violence. |

If there is one thing we all understand as Second Amendment supporters, it’s the need to fight – even when we disagree on the methods. But we can’t just fight harder when confronted with threats, we have to fight smarter than we have over the years. This applies across the entire Second Amendment community.
Here’s the nature of the threats: Earlier this month, an advice columnist with a readership of 22 million encouraged a father to prioritize his hatred of guns over his love for his daughter. In two airings (one this past Sunday), a “60 Minutes” hit piece on the AR-15 drew a combined total of almost 17 million viewers (9.85 million in November, just under 7 million this past Sunday). |
