A new Republican majority Macomb County Board of Commissioners narrowly passed a resolution to designate the county as “Constitutional Sanctuary County” that bans any attempt to restrict the Second Amendment right to bear arms.
The largely symbolic measure, introduced by Sterling Heights Republican Commissioner Don VanSyckel, was approved 7-6 along party lines Wednesday by the board’s Government Oversight Committee during a virtual meeting shown over google.meet. It will now go to the 13-member full board, which has the exact same makeup as the committee.
Passage by the GOP-controlled board came after the Democratic majority body in March 2020 tabled a similar measure offered by Commissioner Phil Kraft indefinitely in a 7-5 tally. |

Yesterday, the General Assembly adjourned from its 2021 legislative session. Thanks to NRA members and other Second Amendment supporters contacting their lawmakers, this was a good session for law-abiding gun owners in Illinois, in that no anti-gun measures are going to the governor’s desk.

Submitter's note: This was cutting it FAR too close and maybe the hand of God helped. Adjournment before one FINAL concurrence vote was all that prevented vastly expanding "red flag" tyranny. |

Chipman’s nomination as ATF director raised immediate concerns from Second Amendment advocates, many of whom see it as a slap in the face to the nation’s tens of millions of responsible gun owners.
Chipman—a longtime ATF agent who now is a gun control lobbyist—is well known for advocating severe restrictions on the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. He also made headlines last year by brazenly mocking the 8 million Americans who bought firearms for the first time in 2020, implying that they were afraid of zombies and comparing them to “Tiger King.” |

The CZ-USA Hammer Coach side-by-side shotgun was a popular seller last year, at a time when widespread social unrest and the COVID-19 pandemic drove sales of home- and self-defense firearms to record-setting levels. That market is traditionally dominated by semi-automatics or pump-actions, although this gun’s tang-mounted safety, two shotshell capacity and requirement to cock both hammers before delivering a shot may have been irresistible assets to the volume of law-abiding citizens who purchased their first gun in 2020. |

So, we can VERIFY that while the Governor has not yet signed H.B. 1927 into law, he has publicly announced, he has every intention of doing so.
The law is set to take effect on Sept. 1, 2021. People who still want to get a license to carry, can. It is important to keep in mind, the license is recognized in several other states that require a permit to carry. So, it could come in handy when you travel. |

The news that newly proposed firearms legislation would no longer recognise self-defence as a valid reason to own a firearm, has been met with anger, despair, and disbelief. And not only by those who own a gun.
It boggles the mind that in a country where the state is failing to perform basic functions, such as providing water or removing refuse, it now wants to take away the right of citizens to defend themselves, when the police are often failing in this duty. |

Oregon gun owners will have to pay out of pocket to lock their weapons away and come unarmed to protests under a bill signed into law this week.
The omnibus gun control bill combined two bills which set statewide standards for gun storage and allowing local governments to set up "gun-free zones" guns in public places. Gov. Kate Brown signed it into law on Tuesday. It takes effect 90 days after the state legislature is set to adjourn on June 28. |

Legislators have brought guns into the Oregon State Capitol for personal protection. Protesters have carried semi-automatic rifles onto the grounds and into the building.
Later this year, doing so will be outlawed under a bill signed Tuesday by Gov. Kate Brown that was earlier passed by the Legislature, with Democrats in favor and minority Republicans opposed. The new law also mandates the safe storage of guns.
“Today, I am signing SB 554 with the hope that we can take another step forward to help spare more Oregon families from the grief of losing a loved one to gun violence,” Brown said on Twitter. |

In 2018, Fanaeian was working as a gun-violence prevention activist with March for Our Lives, whose Utah chapter she co-founded. “Spending time in that movement, I realized that our community—the trans community especially—was experiencing this ever-growing violence against us,” says Fanaeian. “It was important for me to start focusing my work on actually preventing that violence and defending ourselves against [it].” This is precisely what led Fanaeian to start the first Utah chapter for the Pink Pistols, a national organization created over 20 years ago that now has over 45 chapters across the country.

But our guest historian, Carol Anderson, says those groups have been noticeably quiet when police shoot African Americans who are legally carrying firearms and presenting no threat to the officers involved.
In a new book, Anderson argues that sharp racial distinctions in Americans' treatment of gun ownership go back to the founding of the republic. The language of the Second Amendment itself, she writes, was crafted to ensure slave owners could quickly crush any rebellion or resistance from those they'd enslaved. And she says the right to bear arms, presumably guaranteed to all citizens, was repeatedly denied to African Americans with brutal consequences. |

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva has said that his department plans to expand concealed weapons permits, citing a surge in violent crime in the area.
The sheriff in a video on Wednesday promised to lower the “good cause” standard required to obtain a carry permit. He added, however, that he doesn’t intend make the area a “shall issue” region.
In explaining his plans, Villanueva said that last month, Los Angeles county saw a 95 percent rise in murders, a 7 percent jump in rape cases, an increase of 13 percent in aggravated assaults, a 22 percent increase in arson incidents, and a 40 percent uptick in grand theft auto compared to May last year. |

San Clemente City Council members declared the city’s support for people’s right to bear arms, but stopped short of labeling the town a “sanctuary city” for the Second Amendment.
For a fourth time in two months, City Councilman Gene James brought a resolution up for the council’s consideration to make San Clemente a Second Amendment sanctuary city, joining the city of Needles which was the first in California to do so early last year. He delayed previous votes for various reasons. |
