"It does lead to some interesting questions, particularly for those demanding to expand investigations to include the Bush-era 'Operation Wide Receiver' program and his then-Attorney General Michael Mukasey. The Twin Cities operation took place under Janet Reno’s watch under President Bill Clinton." |

"On Independence Day 2012 we will celebrate several things: In addition to celebrating the 236th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we at The Firearms Coalition will be celebrating our 28th anniversary as an organization and the 4th anniversary of the release of the book 'Neal Knox – The Gun Rights War,' a compilation by my brother Chris of highlights from our father, Neal Knox’s, extensive writings on the gun-rights movement stretching from 1966 to 2000."
"July 4 also marks the 4th annual celebration of National Training Week, a week set aside in conjunction with Independence Day to remind people that liberty and independence are closely tied to responsible possession of firearms." ... |

"As I started my stroll down Thayer Street, I clocked the cop on the other side of the street. Bicycle guy. Bright blue jersey. I concentrated on walking normally—which is damn hard when you’re trying to walk normally. I mentally rehearsed my Terry Stop. Say nothing until spoken to. Hands in plain sight. And . . . Didn’t happen. Nor did any Brown students see my gun. Why would they? These proto-Masters of the Universe don’t even look both ways when crossing the road, expecting (as they do) drivers to accept their primacy on planet Earth. The only person who noticed my Caracal: a street vendor selling jewelry ... So I bought a cigar and took my eight-year-old to Sunshine Creamery . . ." ... |

Holder's defenders have apparently reached the conclusion that he is best served by pointing out that the aggressive pursuit of the investigation into the administration's culpability in the 'gunwalker' scandal would do nothing for the nation's appalling unemployment rate." ... |

"Yesterday we figured out that Google Shopping is no longer providing its service to the firearms community. Turns out there’s already a site out there that does what Google Shopping used to do, but better and geared specifically towards firearms and related equipment. Gunspec.com, which has been online since 2011, already searches listings from everyone from Gander Mountain to Brownells to the Sports Authority to find the best firearms and equipment deals and does it quite well. You should give it a glance. Make the jump for Gunspec’s words to the firearms community…" ... |

... "The attitudes and expressions that men hold are not necessarily the cause but the symptom of something deeper and more troubling. To a great extent lately I’ve been putting pen to paper and extolling the merits of training and practice with firearms. To my chagrin I’ve encountered a voiced resistance to the idea that the path to proficiency and confidence can be found through professional training followed by dedicated practice."

Walther announced that they’ll be setting up a newco stateside called Walther Arms, Inc. to take over distribution here. But the two aren’t totally splitsville. Some of the relationship will live on (at least for now) as Smith will continue to make Bond fave, the PPK. Likewise, Walther will keep on keepin’ on by producing the M&P 22 for Smith. "The Sigma from S&W is in many ways THE red headed stepchild of the Smith lineup. Created with a price a few hundred dollars below the M&P, it seems to be a popular choice for the budget-minded buyer who still wants the Smith logo. Buyer beware however, the trigger is something out of a horror movie. A Google search of “Smith and Wesson Sigma Trigger” reveals page after page of forum posts and YouTube videos on how to fix things." ... |

"We’re always comforted by the apparent lack of forethought and planning most burglars use when pulling a job. Take, for instance, this little caper as reported by newstribune.com. Since the two two would-be Dillingers broke into the house in question at 4:00p.m., it seems a safe bet they weren’t expecting the house to be occupied. And a simple knock at the door probably would have told them that someone was, in fact, very much at home. Not that we’re complaining about how things turned out . . ." ... |

"A key figure in the federal gun-tracking operation that is under fire for helping to put sophisticated weapons into the hands of Mexican drug cartels also played a central role in a similar sting involving Twin Cities gangs a decade ago."
"George Gillett Jr., a supervisor in the federal operation in Arizona known as Fast and Furious, is now a cooperating witness in the congressional investigation that could lead to an unprecedented contempt citation against U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder."

"There is the 'inherent contempt' power, where the House orders the arrest of the defendant, and can try him then and there, and pass sentence. It hasn't been used since 1934, when the Senate sentenced a fellow who destroyed evidence to ten days in jail. It was upheld by the Supreme Court in Jurney v. MacCracken, 294 U.S. 125 (1935). ('Here, we are concerned, not with an extension of congressional privilege, but with vindication of the established and essential privilege of requiring the production of evidence. For this purpose, the power to punish for a past contempt is an appropriate means.') ..." ... |

"The Justice Department moved Friday to shield Attorney General Eric Holder from prosecution after the House voted to hold him in contempt of Congress."
"The contempt vote technically opened the door for the House to call on the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia to bring the case before a grand jury. But because U.S. Attorney Ronald Machen works for Holder and because President Obama has already asserted executive privilege over the documents in question, some expected Holder's Justice Department to balk." ... |

Whenever the Department of Veterans Affairs finds a veteran to be incapable of handling his own finances, that veteran’s name pops up on the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NCIS). "The [NYPD]'s stop-and-frisk policy may not have had much effect on the number of shootings citywide, but it has certainly left its mark in ways that are harder to quantify. The searches, overwhelmingly conducted on men of color, have become a fact of life for black and Hispanic teenagers, many of whom are resigned to being treated differently than their white peers. But adults, too, are left with 'raw feelings' after being frisked, according to an informal ... survey. Respondents describe that being called 'sir' is not necessarily better than 'bro' or 'immigrant' while being forced to stop, although the common refrain 'Where's the weed?' is just plain rude. The department, though, is attempting to lighten up the interactions." ... -------

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
To trust arms in the hands of the people at large has, in Europe, been believed...to be an experiment fraught only with danger. Here by a long trial it has been proved to be perfectly harmless...If the government be equitable; if it be reasonable in its exactions; if proper attention be paid to the education of children in knowledge and religion, few men will be disposed to use arms, unless for their amusement, and for the defence of themselves and their country. — Timothy Dwight, Travels in New England and New York [London 1823] |
