"Guns are the center of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution."

"While the topic is clear, the amendment is fraught with ambiguity and has been subject to conflicting interpretations and often acrimonious debate."

"The sharp conflicts are everyday discussion topics, as gun-control advocates claim that firearms have a pivotal role in societal violence, and firearm enthusiasts clamor that restricting guns tramps on the intent and spirit of the Second Amendment." ...

" Gun rights activists were up in arms Friday after New Orleans Police Chief Warren Riley said he would confiscate weapons should disaster strike."

"The chief’s comments came after a federal lawsuit forced the city to return hundreds of firearms that were seized in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina."

"In an interview with WWL Radio, Riley said his officers would seize guns from people on the streets if another storm was to hit New Orleans."

"'During a circumstance like that, we cannot allow people to walk the street carrying guns…as law enforcement officers we will confiscate the weapon if a person is walking down the street and they may be arrested,' Riley said." ...

"Security guards and other people who injure or kill criminals they subdue can be sued by their victims and their families, the state Court of Appeals ruled Friday."

"In a unanimous decision, the three-judge panel voided a state law that said people couldn't sue if they were injured while committing or attempting to commit crimes. That law provided immunity even if the person who caused the injury was grossly negligent."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

The "Wisconsin 6 Shooters" club hosted the Cowboy Fastdraw Association's state championships this weekend.

Shooters use old-fashioned pistols and wax bullets to shoot at a target about 20 feet away. They compete head to head, and the fastest three out of five shots gets a shooter to the next round.

Competitors really get into the spirit of the quick-shooting era, complete with clothing from the 1800's.

"The traditional aspect of it has really gained us a lot of popularity. And it's spreading all over the country very quickly," says Brad Hemmah, founder of the Cowboy Fastdraw Association.

More than 40 shooters took part in this weekend's competition. The winners in both the men's and women's division took home a new pistol and other prizes.
